I am not impressed with this camera as on a sunny day when can not see through the LCD because the sun reflects on it badly i understand this is the same on all digital cameras has anyone found a way around this?
A compact with a bit extra.......2007-04-04
Samsung have managed to squeeze a lot into a little box (albeit slightly bigger than your usual compact). For the ambitious beginner there are variable shutter and aperture settings (although not as comprehensive as an SLR) colour filters and quite a lot of other effects. This can be a lot to take on for someone with no experience (me) but not to worry-there is an auto setting which will do everything for you. The picture quality is fantastic and the HDMI dock makes it fun to view them on your TV ( you dont need a fancy HD LCD TV though, any old one as long as it has the right socket will do), it has a video facility also with reasonable picture quality. My only gripe is the lack of a viewfinder, the screen is nice and large but on a sunny day outdoors it is sometimes difficult to see what is in it! Overall very happy.

Great camera with very stylish looks - although you might find it cheaper elsewhere. Packed with functions, from fully-automatic to fully manual (including manual focus). If you get the cradle too, then its remote-control can also operate the camera shutter - as a neat alternative to the self-timer.
The "My Set" function mentioned in the publicity does not exist (I checked with Samsung) - the publicity is wrong. Another down-side is that the camera has no viewvinder - just the large display. This is great indoors, but outside on a sunny day it can be difficult to see clearly.
However, everything else about the camera is spot on.

I'm really, really, really happy with this camera. I bought it two weeks ago after researching all the different cameras available on the market. Being an intermediate, "wannabe" photographer, I've always used the old fashioned SLRs but wanted to go digital without having to get a digital SLR. So I had to find a digital camera that offered more than just snap-shot photos - that offered the extra mega-pixels (8MP), good lens (5x Optical zoom), manual functions for creativity etc. The Samsung Digimax is all that and more. Having taken it with me on holiday last week, I experimented with all different kinds of shots and I'm happy to report that it's easy to use, it takes great pictures at night, takes great macro shots, the software works well and it looks funky too. It's only every so slightly bigger than most other digital cameras, but still nice & small. I would recommend it to other intermediate photographers like myself and get yourself a camera stand for those creative, long exposure shots - the results are amazing.
