The expanded range of TriGrip reflectors now come with a new moulded handle with securing strap, allowing even more accurate positioning of the reflector with one hand. This means that light can be directed to all those awkward spots e.g. under the chin and eyes without the need for stands or supports.
Customer Reviews:
the longer you own it the less pleased you become.......2007-01-26
I've had my AV480 since it was first released, about 18 months, I'm a techno geek and love gadgets especially media related ones and the ipod didnt offer me what I wanted, specifically TV recording and large portable storage . Today's fiasco has prompted me to write a review.
The functionality of this item is sporadic.
Recording from TV has been what I have used it for most.
Pros
It will record music channels into wavs easily so I can have some decent music to listen to at work.
When it works, recording from TV is easy, you just plug in some AV cords and the special adapter. It will also play divx recorded movies from your computer.
USB Storage quick and easy
Editting movie files is quick and easy.
Cons
Directory Structure
(unless using it as a USB drive)
Inputting file names, or directory names is a chore.
Moving files into created directories isn't possible.
Deleting folders can't be done.
Battery
Recharging - sometimes this works sometimes it doesn't, sometimes it will recharge on the cradle, sometimes it needs to be plugged in directly to the charger. It will show it's charged but the minute you try something it shuts down and needs more charging or run out of battery then recharging to get it going again.
Operation - this is an interesting one, sometimes it will work off power, sometimes it wont, it will register a full charge but then will only operate for 1/2 hr or so.
You can't access the battery without removing it from the device.
Functionality (Or lack there of)
I want to record a movie
- I set it and go to bed, in the morning I find out that it recorded the first two minutes then shut down
- it's recorded until the drive is full and is still on
- it's hung and is still giving the impression of recording but when you stop the recording you have to wait for the unit to run out of juice and you lose any part of the file it was recording
- if I do a check recording of levels, the unit shuts downs when I start the actual recording
Playback on a computer
Sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't - divx is needed but this varies with the bitrate and sampling the file was recorded in.
Builtin Speaker
Unless you're the Bionic Woman or have an extremely quiet environment, this isn't useful during a normal environment. It's very tinny and not aesthetically pleasing.
Headphones
I've not used the ones supplied, but you can't use headphones and record from TV as the adapter takes the headphone port.
For the money I paid this is the worst purchase I've ever made. I wouldn't even think of onselling it for risk of negative feedback.
I'll go ipod + dvr next time.
Archos AV400 Series.......2006-02-24
I am not one for wasting money and so, just like everybody else did a bit of research into this product before parting with my hard earned. The reviews I read were mixed to say the least but I found that the majority of complaints people had seemed to be about trivial matters, so I decided to take the plunge on the Archos AV480. To say I am extremely pleased with my purchase is an understatement and have found the unit extremely user friendly and simple to operate. The device is very well made and the robust controls and finish are excellent. Recording from external video sources is simple and gives superb results which can be modified and edited after recording. Converting video files to play on the supposedly picky operating system is an absolute doddle and takes roughly half of the runtime of the file using free to download software. Music sounds superb especially through an external hi-fi source and again is exteremely easy to add and remove. Beleive me this is the ultimate gadget that does exactly what it says on the tin and gives superb reproduction in all areas. Highly recommended. !!!
don't be fooled - this is useless !.......2005-05-17
I have an earlier archos, the 340, and so was looking forward to getting to grips with the new generation - but don't be fooled. Despite the advertising this is hideously difficult to use. It will not run window media files unless you have run them through two seperate coding systems, and nor is it compatible with sky plus, so you cannot get the archos to record shows in advance. A hideous waste of money - AVOID !
THE BEST THING EVER MADE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2005-05-12
I HAD ONE OF THESE WHEN THEY WERE FIRST RELEASED AND I THOUGHT IT WOULD BE HARD WORK TRANSFERRING ALL MY MUSIC AND VIDEOS ON TO IT, BUT IT WAS ONE OF THE EASIEST AND SIMPLIEST THINGS I HAVE USED.
IT IS EXACTLY LIKE A MICROSOFT COMPUTER, WHERE YOU COPY AND PASTE THE THING YOU WANT. THE BEST TING OF ALL IS THAT IT HAD FOLDERS, AS MANY AS YOU WANT, AND THIS MAKE ORDERING YOU MUSIC AND FILES, EASY.
YOU CAN USE IT AS A EXTERNAL HARDDRIVE, MP3 PLAYER, VIDEO PLAYER, PHOTO VIEWER AND RECORD OF THE TV.
IF YOU HAVE ENOUGHT MONEY TO BUY ONE OF THESE I RECOMMEND YOU GET ONE THEY ARE GREAT
Archos. Makes the ipod look like trash.......2005-01-14
Once i had opened the boxes and saw the archos i was amazed at how cool, small and portable it was. The charging time is brilliant and the LCD display is also of a very high quality. If anyone was thinking of getting an ipod think again because this is the true king of MP3 and MP4 plays. Buy it now!!
