amazing pictures.......2006-01-17
I'll start with what's wrong with it:
1. small lcd display and useless in sunlight
2. build flimsy - mine is falling to pieces
3. optical viewfinder not much use
4. finger tends to get in the way of the lens
BUT...
1. Photos are FANTASTIC
2. battery charges in minutes and lasts for days
3. macro is outstanding
4. you can put it in your shirt pocket and take it anywhere
Conclusion...
it's the photos that matter and these are superb.

When I read the write up for the camera I was a bit wary at first as I thought the camera was too small to cope with all the features the manufacturers claimed it had. I was proved wrong.
The instructions that come with the camera are simple and easy to follow with diagrams that help if one gets confused by the text. The battery takes about a hour and a half to fully charge. The features on the camera are supurb. It has a 12x digital zoom which is stunning for the size of the camera. The flash is easy to turn on and of and deleting a file can be achieved with the press of a button. The camera can also take home movies which is an option that I use often. The only problem is that this option eats up a lot of memory. The 16mb memory card that comes as standard can only hold about 30 seconds of video. I recomend getting either a 256 or a 512mb memory card. (A 256mb card will take around 4 minutes of film depending on the quality.) Transfering data to a Mac or PC is very easy. Simply pug in and you have the photos on a removable file on the desktop. I have never encounted a corrupted file to date.
If you are looking to buy this camera then I also recomend the case that Amazon suggest you should buy. Its very durable and will take some punishment. Overall this camera is an excellent buy and is very cheap compared to other websites that are trying to sell it for over £200. If you decide to buy this digial camera then you will not be disappointed as its reliable, small and is one of the best deals on the market.
P.S If you are worried about the other reviews then dont be. Some say that their finger is taken in the photo while they are holding the camera. Only a muppet would cover the shutter with their finger.
Cheap and compact.......2004-12-27
You won't find much difference between a 3 megapixel camera and a 4 megapixel camera to be honest. 3MPs are adequate for casual photos, whilst those wanting to take professional pictures would need a more expensive camera (around the 5 or 6 MP range)
The first thing you notice whilst looking at this camera is its size. It's thin and compact, easily slipping into your pocket, perfect if you want to take it on nights out. The secret's the custom battery. It takes less than 2 hours to charge and doesn't run out faster than any other battery operated camera I've used.
It comes with a 16MB memory card, which isn't capable of taking too many pictures, but it doesn't cost much to buy a bigger card. The camera itself is user friendly, with a few uncluttered menus for advanced options. There isn't anything here that's not present in other cameras in its class though.
It has been said before, but the location of the lens takes a little getting used to. However, within a half an hour so you'll manage to avoid photographing your fingers.
I'm personally not convinced about the colour saturation of the pictures when transferred to PC (they look lovely on that LCD screen, but on a PC they don't look as good as a photo taken by a Canon or a Sony of a similar calibre).
Overall, it's a handily sized camera which is reasonable for its price (you're not paying extra for the brand name as many of the Canons can be accused of). When picking a camera, I'd say it's better to have a look at a few before buying, but certainly keep this one in mind.

I have owned a Dimage Xg for 5 months. I've been impressed by the sharpness of the images it produces (including when turned into 7" by 5" prints by high street photo labs), its fast start-up time, compact size and stylish design, and the ease of use of its control system. There are a few small flaws to be sure: the ISO 400 sensitivity setting is noisy, there is some barrel distortion in the corners of the images, there is no infinity setting for taking photos of scenery through windows, and there are too few manual overrides; however, since most of the time you will probably just use the default program in normal lighting conditions, these are not serious criticisms. Other reviewers have taken issue with the lens positioning, but I have never had any problems in that respect. By the way, I've never used the novelty features, like audio recording, image pasting, or producing e-mail copies - and I doubt you will too. In summary, though, the Dimage Xg is excellent value and I would recommend it highly.
A little beauty.......2004-10-26
I've had mine for over a month now, i was tempted to it having seen the XT version and still cannot work out why there is such a price difference as this one has more useful features than it's predecessor and is a lot cheaper. It's a great wee camera, simple to use, extremely compact (i now take it everywhere with me), it's usb transfer is really quick and caused no problems with Windows XP.
The different settings (landscape, low light etc) can produce results that I only thought would be possible with a high-end professional camera (not a sub-£200 digital pocket camera) The colours tend to be extremely rich and the picture very sharp. I'm truly amazed at the power of this little beauty.
The battery supplied allows me to shoot about 150 standard pictures using the lcd screen on constantly before recharging. I have now purchased a 1gb card and spare battery too so will never be stuck without space or power.
All in all, i would highly recommend this to anyone who wants a high quality digital camera at a low price that is so compact it's no more inconvenient to carry with you than an average mobile phone.
You'll be amazed at how quickly you will be taking photo's to make people go "Wow! Did you really take these with that!?"
