4 out of 5 stars Some niggles.......2005-11-19

On the whole, I'm quite satisfied with this camera and its performance. The pictures it takes are excellent with minimal distortion & the optical zoom works a treat. However, I feel that there are some annoying points about this camera.

1.) Its big, so don't expect it to be something you can carry about at social functions & not get noticed.

2.) It is powered by 4 AA batteries & it goes through these pretty fast. On average, it takes about 100-120 shots(I don't use the flash often) before it dies on me, even when I use quality Alkaline or Ni-MH batteries. So, I have to carry a spare set of batteries, which adds to the bulk/weight.

3.) Last but not least, the lens cap is very annoying as it comes off very easily. It doesn't have a lock, so it often comes off even when I carry it in a camera bag or pouch, leaving the lens unprotected. Even in everyday use, it slips off unintentionally with minimal force. In addition, you have to remove the lens cap manually before & after taking photos.

4.) The flash is not automatic, i.e. you have to manually lift it out of the casing before you can use the flash.

If you can live with these problems, then you'll be a very happy buyer, as it is otherwise a good camera. But having owned it for more than a year, these niggles do get on my nerves & I am now shopping for a different model.

5 out of 5 stars Konica Minolta Dimage Z2 Digital.......2004-12-11

Having had some resonable quality digital point and shoot cameras before, I decided I wanted to develop my digital photography skills.
Dont get me wrong, I had also seriously contemplated just keeping my old Kodak digital camera, and just opting for a nice shiny SLR.
But whilst I was looking, I came across a national Tabloid advert showing the new Z2. I went to Konicas web page, and had a good look around at the spec and cababilities of this camera (and if you are thinking of buying one you would do the same).
Well, I was sold straight away.
Having now had this for several months, the picture quality is fantastic. I easily print A4 size prints, with no noticeable loss of picture quality, and am sure I could probably print bigger if I could print them.
The auto setting on it works very well, meaning that even the most in-experienced camera user, can still take some outstanding pictures.
The movie capture is also very good, and having recorded most of my 2 year old daughters birthday with it, was more than happy with the results (30 fps)
Having decided on buying this camera, I then did some extensive price quoting before looking to buy, and Amazon was by FAR the cheapest I could find.
So points to note: Take a good look at the konica page, (youll be glad you did)
Fantastic picture and movies quality.
Suitable for both the amateur and professional alike. (my opinion of course)

4 out of 5 stars Frustration.......2004-11-29

I'm really not sure what I think of this camera - it can be great there's so much to play with and so many things you can do. It's my first real digi-camera, but I've been a bit frustrated with it in "low-light"/indoors, without the flash in auto mode it seems to make surprisingly low shutter speed choices.
I tend to take a fair few photo's at Gigs and I don't really want to use the flash because it spoils lighting effects, but in auto the camera wants to use shutters speeds of 1/8 or lower, I can get reasonable photos at 1/30 but it never opts for that and to make matters worse it can struggle to focus in low light. Indoors it also seems to want to use the flash even setting the shutter speed myself I'm stuggling to do it without the flash.
Maybe I'm expecting too much, everyone else seems to think the camera is brilliant - I've not yet done much outdoor stuff.
However all that said I think for the money, this is great camera - the zoom is magnificent and the movie mode is pretty good (but don't use the zoom - too noisy).

5 out of 5 stars brilliant.......2004-09-13

the features on this camera are brilliant , every thing from the zoom to the picture quality and i really love the vda movie mode. another thing i liked was that once a picture was taken you can put the camera on play back mode and skip through the photo's and by using the zoom buttons you can zoom in on the picture you have taken so if there's any detail you want to explore it's brilliant. but you do need a big memory card or two.

5 out of 5 stars Minolta Z2.......2004-08-26

This is a very good camera for the money. It's the second Minolta I have purchased and I am, again, pleased with what I have. Some reviews highlight that the build quality is not 100%, I'd agree with that, in the sense some of the button clicks are less than positive. But these are minor things in the grand scheme. The lens is superb and the overall picture quality and functionality are hard to beat at the GBP 220 mark. I would recommend this to anyone wishing to get a bit more serious with their photography but are reluctant to bite the bullet and splash out lots more on an D-SLR.

4 out of 5 stars By no means flawless, but adequate........2007-12-27

Having a 2001 Corsa with the molded stereo, I was in no hurry to rip it out to replace with an MP3 Head-unit, so I opted for one of these.

On the upside, it's relatively cheap at £14, so it's no great dent in the pocket, and when it works, its pretty good. Sound quality does leave something to be desired; you can definitely hear the distortion on tracks with more bass or when you crank it up. It really is a case of fiddling with your MP3 player's volume to get the best compromise.

On the downside, the unit's automatic power off is somewhat annoying, and it cuts in a little too often, even when I know full well that the volume of my MP3 player is high enough; having said that, it could also be the spring in the plug itself, which has been mentioned isnt that great. If you get it firmly in your cigarette lighter, and you have the volume of your MP3 player set right, it works just fine.

While it's not the best option for using an MP3 player in a car, it's most definitely the most viable if you like to avoiding spending a good deal on a new head-unit, and at it's price, I can live with a little distortion every now and then. The addition of three channels is also a welcome one, as you often fine yourself in competition with local radio stations, so preset them in your car as well as on the unit itself, and then its easy to switch if things get dodgy; also, why they opted for the 0.2 increments, I will never know.

If you're an in-car audiophile, chances are, this just wouldnt have come to mind in the first place, and you'd have gone for the new head-unit, but if all you want is some semi-decent quality music from your MP3 player every now and then, this should do fine.

1 out of 5 stars Does not fit all car power points.......2007-12-27

I bought this to go with and iPod for my wife for Christmas, but was very dissapointed when i tryed to put it into my Wifes Peugeot 206, the power adapter doesnt fit. Would have been handy if they had released a list of cars this would fit.

4 out of 5 stars Great FM transmitter.......2007-12-14

I have just bought this item this morning (sorry Amazon, it was from a well-known [food] retailer) from just a tad more than advertised here at this time (£18.83). I used to have another transmitter (from another brand) which was recently stolen. I wasn't totally satisfied with that product, but I really wanted another transmitter to use with my MP4 player.
I chose this brand and model based on reviews. I must say I am not disappointed in the slightest. The plug fits perfectly inside the cigarette lighter (unlike my previous one) and the sound is pukka. There might be a slight hiss but nothing that will bother you too much.
It's a doodle to set up. The instructions are very clear, and if you've got experience from other transmitters you won't even need to read them.
The overall build quality feels excellent even if the device really doesn't weight much. The plastic used looks very decent to me.
This FM transmitter can have up to 3 frequencies saved in memory.
It also cuts off after one minute of no music being playet etc. (according to the instructions provided it is a legal requirement in Europe).
Anyway, great product. Loving it already.
    Well done Kensington!

5 out of 5 stars Great quality sound.......2007-11-20

I was really reluctant to risk getting one of these. I used to plug my MP3 player into the tape deck in my car - but a new car meant the tape deck went. I read a LOT of reviews before choosing this one, and I'm really impressed with it. The sound quality is great - it's just like having CD in the machine - better than the actual radio! I live just outside London and have it set to 88.5 - picks up the frequency without a hitch. You need to have your MP3 player set at 2/3 volume otherwise you can get a feedback - just adjust the volume on the car stereo to get the right listening level. I have an Archos Gmini MP3 player (I HATE ipods - they just don't compare to Archos) and it's works a treat. I'm very happy with the transmitter and now want to buy more for the family for xmas! Get it - you won't go wrong!

5 out of 5 stars Worth every penny - Brilliant!.......2007-10-13

Item arrived and I was slightly sceptical as other reviews weren't rating it that highly. I live in a city centre so had concerns about finding a clear radio frequency to use.

Plugged it in and left it on FM 88.1, tuned radio in and got the crystal clear sound of songs playing from my ipod nano.

Do not hesitate ordering this. My parents live in a tiny village in the middle of nowhere. I can leave the frequncy setting whilst travelling all the way to theirs without a problem.

Forget all the bad reviews about this item. It really is worth every penny.
