Great Little Camera.......2007-10-15
I bought one of these before my holiday so I could use it underwater and when snorkelling. I was a bit concerned when first using it in water but I needn't have worried, it is great! Took lots of pics underwater some were really good, better in clear water with lots of sunlight. Used the movie mode in the water too, no complaints. Some of my pics did come out a bit overexposed, it does take a bit of getting used to with the different modes, but it's rugged, very compact and great fun, and I've no complaints with battery life either, charged it once during a three week holiday and I put a 2gb card in so I could take loads of pics!
My 720SW..........2007-08-07
I know this is the page for the 725SW but they seem to have stopped selling the 720SW and the specs seem pretty similar so I shall give you my review.
I've had my 720 about 7 months now. I was very impressed with it for most of this time; it was nice and small which was perfect for taking out and about with me, I could accidently drunkenly drop it and it was always fine - I could even spill things on it and it survived! I was particularly impressed by the anti-shake setting (I have it on this setting for almost all pictures I take) as it does make sure you have blur-free pics, especially important after a few drinks. It did serve its purpose fairly well, but I do have a number of complaints...
Firstly, the battery life on my particular camera is AWFUL. A friend who has exactly the same battery (but different camera) has gone for a couple of months without charging it, whereas mine (despite a wee bit more use than hers) lasts a couple of days. This is really frustrating, especially when it runs out when you want it most. I can't however hold this against it because the guy who wrote the last review said his battery is superb so...
Secondly, the quality of pictures in limited light (with and without the flash) are often grainy and if you zoom in just a tad on some pictures you can easily see red and blue pixels. This is helped somewhat by changing the ISO setting but I still find it distracting and have come to the conclusion that 7.1MP is over doing it and unneccisary.
Finally, and possibly most importantly, my lens cover (the clever and what I thought was rather slick, piece of metal which slides invisably below the metal body) has broken 3 times. The first time after shaking and turning it on and off it fixed itself. The second time it was firmly wedged underneath and I called Olympus and prepared to send it away when it fixed itself again, only for me to leave it on a coffee table and next time I turned it on it broke again, so I sent it away for repair. This took a couple weeks and it arrived, thankfully, just before I went on holiday. Olympus had however forgotten to put my 1GB memory card back in and as internal memory only holds 30 decent pics I was a little annoyed. A quick call and they said they'd send me a new one, although not it time. All was well until the next day when the lens cover got stuck AGAIN. Refusing to fix itself I couldn't take it on holiday and was rediculously annoyed that I couldn't use my waterproof camera in the pool and in the sea to take pictures of all the pretty fish - like it was supposed to do. I'm now waiting for a special courier this time to pick the box up and get it sent away to be fixed a second time. I'm told Olympus only give you a new camera after it breaks 3 times... While it was away though I asked them to check the battery and they assured me it was in perfect working order so I still don't understand why it's so short.
Frustrated by my lack of camera and the want of a newer upgrade I've just bought a Fuji Finepix S6500 which I hope will serve me better.
I would recommend the 720 (or 725 I guess) if you want a robust, small and light weight compact with avarage/good photos (I'm probably being a bit harsh as it is only small) but I have been put off by my experiances with it, so take what you will from them...
Happy snapping!
Not quite what it says.......2007-05-01
Appears robust and well made, but its NOT for underwater. Although its claimed waterproof to what, 5m I think, the manual says open the battery and USB cover and dry off after immersion. Sure enough after 30 seconds in 1 foot of water there was water inside both covers. Not much, a few drops, but enough to worry about swimming or 5 metres. Great for rainy Scotland though.
The manual says replace the seals around the battery and USB covers annually , but not where to get them or how much that would cost.
The lcd display is very easily scratched - I recommend covering with plastic film. Battery life is amazing...I almost bought a spare battery but am glad I didn't as its managed 130+ shots per charge over the last 5 charges.
Movie mode is not impressive, especially compared to the mju 300 and the Kodak D5. Still picture quality though is better than those.
And it fits in a shirt or trouser pocket and you'll have it with you when the Loch Ness monster poses for you.
so far so good!!!.......2007-01-14
camra seems to be outstanding i took it kayaking today down 3KM of grade 3 to 5 river with it in my river vest pocket so it had quite a trashing along with me i used it on the river a number of times to both take stills and movie clips just watched the clips and they are great, i will keep trying to brake this bit of kit but for now its holding strong!!

sapien_red.......2007-07-03
small quality item great sound and ten albums in mp3 is a reasonable size.
1gb version i bought.
BUT if you load it with 480 tracks (maximum) for 1gb player
you have to manually skip forward 480 times ... there is no album skip function ... there is no folder skip .. you have to skip forward manually 480 times to get to the end..
so skipping from one album to the next is 20 skip presses* on average... and is a real pain in _ _ _ _
apart from the minor skip function missing its great...
