Broken LCD.......2007-06-08
Initially a great camera but 10 months later the LCD screen has cracked all on its own. No external damage just a broken screen. Panasonic and the retailer deny responsiblity citing "accidental damage".
Do not buy this camera or the new FX9 (reports say its screen is also suspect) until Panasonic sort out their quality and their customer service.

Good camera but screen broke spontaneously!.......2006-10-27
A great camera bought December 2005 that took 100s of fab phots. Lots of features and great colour reproduction. However, like another reviewer the screen has broken spontaneously without ever knocking or dropping the camera. The Panasonic repair centre say they are expressly forbidden from doing screen repairs and that it is not covered by the guarantee. If you are thinking of buying either the Panasonic DMC-FX8, DMC-FX7, DMC-FX9 then check out on a search engine for many others with the same problem.
Good but not great.......2006-09-11
Took this round Europe and whilst it took decent shots, they were not award winning. Infact given the amount of money I spent and lieca lens I expected better.
The lens is very good, its the cameras exposure and light maangement that let this down. There is noise on dark areas of pictures, some are over exposed, others not quite in focus. A silver aston martin V8 I was lucky enough to spot parked in Rome came out with grain on it.
Indoors its Ok, image stabilisation hopes but flash range isn't great.
It takes OK photo's, is beautifully built (not one scratch after a 3 week trip) and works faultlessly. To top it all of its easy to use. But the average image quality means I can only award it 3/5. The canon ixus 700 is significantly better but I bought one on ebay and it broke in days with E18 lens error (a common problem apparantly). I'd say the best camera in the compact market is probably the canon ixus 50/60 as these are metal construction rather than plastic and still take great shots. Just get one with a warranty. The sanyo exacti C6 is also well worth a look. My friends got one and its tremendous. Easy to use, 3 inch LCD screen, ultra fast, and good image quality. It may actually be as good as the canon despite the brands relatively new appearance into the market.
an average camera.......2005-11-01
I have this for about three months. The good points are is light, movie mode gives excellent footage and a decent screen to watch this.
Bad points are; first of all Mega OIS is not as effective as it boasts to be, red eye is a problem even when you use flash appropriately, pictures are always over exposed. Colour reproduction is not perfect.
On the top of this Zoom is inactive in movie mode which you get on most cameras for around the same price, No optical view finder to switch to if you are low on battery. All in all a over priced camera.
If I am lucky enough to find my lost canon S 50, I would never use this even as a spare camera.
Panasonic does it again.......2005-10-12
The panasonic DMC-FX8BS is a stunning 5 megapixal camera that can allow the user to enlage their photo's in stunning high definition quality up to a3 size. The camera has a 3x optical zoom and a 4x digital zoom. On the back side of the camera their is a stunning 2.5 inch lcd screen ideal for viewing back the photos you've just taken. The camera has around 13 scene modes including sports and cusine this will alow the user to fine tune their shots. In the box you get a rather poultry 16mb xd card which you will only be able to get around 8 photos on. I recommend that you upgrade your card to at least 256mb in order to be able to get the most out of your camera. The leica lens is of extremely high quality and with the in built image stabiliser or red eye reduction tool and you will get perfect shots almost every time . The camera is pict bridge compatible to allow direct printing to your printer. In the box you will get the camera, software, a usb lead( to allow sending photos to your pc), an av cable (to slideshow your photos through your tv), a rechargable lithium battery( i recomend you buy another one of these and keep it handy) and a charger (to charge the battery). This camera is extremely impresive weighing only 155g, it produces stunning pictures and good quality movies with sound. The screen is of top quality and being panasonic it is of top build quality to. If your looking for a reliable camera that produces stunning results then this is an excellent camera alternitively, look at the olympus mju 500 which is of simmilar specification.
