A Brilliant Camera.......2007-02-15

Like many, I was loth to change from my trusty SLR (a wonderful old secondhand Contax 139 with assorted lenses aquired over the years), to one of these digital (bah humbug) new fangled cameras.
I initially bought a very compact compact from a rival company & had a great time learning the new technology, how to down/up load onto the computer etc etc - it was brilliant, I could take as many shots as I wanted, keep the good & delete the bad. Brilliant!
Except the picture quality was very poor. Dissapointingly poor.
Of course, some of it was my expectation - I wanted this dinky little toy to compete with my trusty Contax with the 50mm, 1.7 wide open lens and was puzzled & frustrated when it just would'nt cope with low light shots etc.
However - long story short here - I had a chance to compare the LX1 to my dinky compact & play with it generally & I bought one (I had too, there was just no comparison quality wise). Brilliant! In all honesty, yep, there are occassions when the 400 ISO maximum (see noise debates elsewhere) is a tad frustrating & will leave a little subject movement blur (but not camera shake). Apart from that, the shots are great, the clarity is great, the colours are wonderful &, for someone used to a quality SLR, its just a great all rounder that you can carry in your pocket all the time and not miss those shots that you would previously have missed cos you couldn't always lig around a camera case housing 2xSLR bodies, 3-4 lenses, flash & all the other contents of the kitchen sink!.
I honestly believe that, enlarging my shots on the computer screen, they compare equally to my old black & white 8 X 10' enlargements from the 139 - and that is a compliment!

This gem from Panasonic meets all expectations. I have had mine for probably over a year and it continues to stand up to the competition. This camera simply outclasses any other compact camera on the market and produces truly professional shots with amazing clarity. The changeable aspect ratio is perfect for portraiture or landscapes and for viewing slideshows in widescreen straight to your T.V. The only camera I would consider for the price, stick with Panasonic, even the lesser spec models take brilliant shots!

Given the short life of digital cameras (being outdated almost the moment they're released) this one is a joy. It's very easy to use, has many useful funtions, easily pocketable, and it looks great. I wouldn't be without mine, I take it everywhere. Identical internally (electonics and lens) to the Leica D-Lux-2 but a whole lot cheaper.

when taking pictures of tree branches the diagonal has zig zag
effect,this is not noticable on the monitor, but is when playing back on a pc/tv.Returned camera to panasonic,they say nothing wrong.im not happy with this answer considering the price and supposed quality.Have tried all settings to no avail.
would not recommend this camera or panasonic who dont want to know.

I've have used a couple of packs of these and they are good value. I had a couple of coasters in each pack TBH (I was using them to transfer my music tapes onto CD) but even taking this into account still a good price. I now have all my music tapes on CD and they are all playing fine. The quality of the finished version as a music CD is good.

I've had burned near 300 of these disks and only have had 2 failures, and that was because my PC failed and not the disc itself. Price is brilliant, quality is first rate. Would recommened to anyone (and have many times). All the negative reviews must have been a bad batch as all of mine are great.

I've had many packs of these excellent discs and have experienced no problems with them. Just had to return another (cheaper) make and will be ordering more of these.

I HAVE HAD NO PROBLEMS USING THESE BLANK C.D`s. THEY ARE VERY GOOD AT A VERY REASONABLE PRICE.I`VE USED ABOUT 45 BLANKS FROM THE SPINDLE PACK UP TO NOW AND EACH ONE WAS PERFECT.AT JUST AROUND 12 PENCE EACH THERE A NO BRAINER.IT WOULD BE HARD TO FIND 100 BLANK C.D`s AT THIS PRICE ANYWHERE ELSE. THOSE WHO MAY HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THESE IN THE PAST I RECOMMEND YOU CHECK YOUR EQUIPMENT.I KNOW A FEW PEOPLE WHO USE THIS BRAND A LOT AND NEVER GET PROBLEMS.
( And They Paid More at a Big Retail Store ).

Never had any trouble with these discs.......2007-07-27

Unlike many of the reviewers on this page, I've never had any trouble with these discs. I've been using them off and on for about a year and have probably burnt in excess of 500 discs, and at a guess had perhaps 2 or 3 failures - although I can't necessarily say this was down to bad discs, I could have scratched them putting them into the drive etc. It could be that some batches of discs are better than others (as one reviewer below suggested) or it may be that this brand is more compatible with some CD writers than others (?). My own suggestion is try one batch and if they work assume they generally always will, and if they don't, either use another brand or change your CD writer. I figure it may be worth the trouble as I estimate I've almost halved my CD costs by using this brand.
