OK but mad not to buy the K100D ( Super).......2007-11-16
This neat little Pentax is a good entry level camera. However I would urge you not to buy it! Why? Because the K100D is identical and comes with Image Stabilisation which is BRILLIANT and you would be mad to miss it. it means that unlike with most Nikons/ canon where to get IS you have to buy Very expensive lenses... with the K100D all your lenses are effectively stabilised. This means you get much sharper images when shooting in poor light or with a telephoto. The K100D is a winner. Do not be puit off by 6MP. The sensor is 4x bigger than in a digicam. You do not need a sensor of over 6MP unless you are printing over A3 .... and lower pixel count improves results in low light and high ISO. A winner .. but get the stabilised version.
great entry into DSLR .......2007-11-15
I always wanted to move on from the bridge cameras I had used for the past 5 years or so. When I saw the Pentax on Amazon a few months back at a promotional price I jumped at it.
I use rechargeable 2700 ma/h batteries which seem to last forever. The weight and size are ok for me and the build quality seems fine. It does not have image stabilization, but I was prepared to do with out it for the difference in price, you can not have everything as they say.
My only gripes are
1. The shortened text they use in the menus, I still have to keep referring to the manual to clarify the meaning but I am sure this is something that will eventually sink in.
2. The manual setting of the ISO only ranges from 200 to 800.
Otherwise I am very pleased with my first toe in the water purchase and would recommend it as an entry level camera.

Buy It! After looking at all the comments on this camera it looked a good buy. Wrong! Its a great buy. Its so easy too use, good build quality. and just for change a easy to read instruction book. But be warned no sd card!
As good as youll get for the price.......2007-08-26
I recently got a k110d and I've had a great time with it. The iso range is good but I have to say at 3200 there is enough noise to kill it for me. On the whole though I have to say I am impressed with the camera, everything it does it does well, but there are a couple of issues buyers may want to bear in mind.
1. 6MP is good for up to A4 but not really up to A3, so don't plan on entering your photo's in many contests, they probably wont look too hot, so keep hold of that old film camera.
2. Battery life. I have to say they seem to last extremely well with rechargable 2500mAh ni-mh, I'm still on my first charge and I've had well over 200 shots off. It's not even reach half empty yet. One thing Pentax dont mention till you read the manual is that while you can use CR-V3 batteries and they do last even better than ni-mh you CANNOT use rechargable CR-V3's, not a real issue tho as the ni-mh last so damn long.
3.I was going to say the shake reduction because it is totally silent and you cant really tell its doing anything but I just took a test shot with a quarter of a second exposure one with it one and one without, and I can report that the difference is massive. If you're into low light hand held photography I'd definately recommend stumping the extra 20 quid or whatever it is to get the k110d over the k100d.
All in all though I have to say its a nifty little camera, nice buld quality, decent features, good software and you can use your old kmount glass.
The only real flaw is the resolution, already Im feeling pixel envy but for the incredibly cheap price it is a really nice camera, and I heartilly reccomend it to any dslr newcomers. For the more serious photographers and students I'd say probably go for a higher resolution model, as youll be hurting down the line when youve got killa shots you cant print big enough to use.
Product quality issues.......2007-08-26
The camera generally performs well, apart from a fundamental quality problem with my example; the sensor is not aligned with the viewfinder image. All recorded images are rotated by around 1 degree from the viewfinder image. It doesn't sound much, but I can assure you that a 1 degree off-horizontal sloping sea-horizon looks awful. I sent it back to Pentax and after 6 weeks got it back, with the fault still there and no explanation of what, if anything, had been done. I'm back in touch with Pentax again, but I can see this one going on for ever. If you must buy a Pentax camera, my advice is check everything as soon as you get it.
