Quality product.......2007-06-12
I can't really understand anybody thinking that this camera is no good. I have owned this Samsung for over a year and I can honestly say that you won't find better. It beats anything else out there for the price hands down. It is an excellent camera suited for any type of use and is so very simple to use. What you get is quality all the way through, the images are superb with the 7 mpx. I also own the PRO 815 which has 8 mpx. and to be honest, there is little to choose between them for quality, which, in my book is one of the most important things. I am sure you will not be disappointed if you decide to buy it as this is a quality item.
Samsung Digimax A7.......2006-09-09
I bought the Samsung because it was on offer for £115 and had both a large MP capacity and looked good. Having received it I have found that it is very easy to use and has very good picture quality from the restrcitions in 7MP and price band. Although it may be considered quite 'chunky' compared to equivalent cameras of the same specification, for the type of person who just uses a camera for personal use and wants large photos at a good quality(up tp A4 size print outs). The price currently being offered is extremely cheap for the quality of image and I would recommened tis camera to anyone who is a digital camera 'virgin' or unsure of what to look for. For best quality photos set camera to 3072x3204 and SuperFine quality.
Good Digital Camera.......2006-07-30
I bought this camera on special offer at £115. It is replacing my first digital camera which was a Yakumo Mega Image 47. So far I am very pleased with the quality of the images which I have transferred easily to my pc via usb cable provided. I immediately set it to the superfine quality (default was fine) to get the best quality. I have hardly used the manual as it is so easy to work out from the menu on the camera itself. I especially wanted a faster shutter speed as my Yakumo was too slow when taking photos of the kids or with flash - this camera is much better. Ok, so I will be using this camera for family photos, beaches, special occasions etc. I would not expect professional quality from what is meant to be a point and shoot camera but there are many different settings on the camera which I have not yet explored so it will be a learning curve to obtain best results. I do like the fact that this camera has a viewfinder as well as a large lcd because the latter can be hard to see in some lights (but you can change the brightness which I have not tried yet). I guess I would not have been so pleased to pay full RRP of £300+ but at the price I paid I feel it is a great buy. NB the samsung website is a good source of information and you can register your product and download manuals from there if you lose them.
Exceptionally disappointing.......2006-06-09
I bought a Samsung Digimax A7 after reading the reviews on this page. It was a mistake. The Samsung is probably the worst camera I have owned - and I have owned many cameras in the past.
First, the A7 has a strong propensity to bleach out light; it seriously dislikes shadow and moreover does not function at all well in conditions in which there are strong light contrasts. Practically all the pictures I have taken with this camera suffer from being either seriously over-exposed in light areas and under exposed in darker areas. The camera seems incapable of finding a happy medium then - and this in a studio in which light conditons are carefully controlled.
Second, its auto focus is seriously inadequate. I took some pictures of someone standing in (the middle) of a corridor and the parallel walls clearly upset the auto focus as all of the pictures of the subject were seriously blurred - and dark too incidentally. This despite the fact that the subject was situated smack bang in the middle of the frame.
Third, the video quality is pretty atrocious, as it suffers from the same light metering and focussing problems previously mentioned, and it doesn't bear comparison with my other digital cameras - a Canon Powershot and a Fuji Finepix.
Finally, the instructions are over-complicated and the tacky decorative blue and red flashing lights on start-up scream "cheap and nasty" at your photographic subject.
All-in-all I feel as if I have been ripped off by the manufacturer, and in view of the camera's poor light metering and auto-focus functions, I can forsee no further use for it. I would say that the Samsung Digimax is totally unsuitable for anything other than your bog-standard wedding, bar-mitzvar and holiday beach snaps.
Samsung Digimax A7 Digital Camera.......2006-05-22
I bought this camera because I needed an upgrade, I could find no fault with its quality and performance very easy to use once you become familiar with its features. The picture quality is great, the zoom lens is outstanding and the macro mode is also brilliant. The 7MP is towards the top end of the range camera's. I recommend this camera as value for money and packed with many other features to use and experiment with. All in all a great buy.
