Good all rounder........2006-01-18
If you want a camera that is small but does almost everything then the LZ2 is a great choice.
It's not as small as many of the new super compacts, but they do not have a 6X lens (usually only 3X) which allows you to get much closer. It is well built and still small enough to get into your pocket and has a great image stabilizer a feature that is rare on this class of camera. It work very well allowing lower light picture taking at slower shutter speeds than normal. Some people think these stabilizer systems are either limited or just not worth it. They are worth it, you just need to remember that they 'assist' you rather than perform magic!!
There is no viewfinder which may concern some, but it seems to be the way things are going now, you see more and more people taking pictures without holding the camera to their face. The screen is large, clear and all of the graphic indicators are intuitive.
One must also mention the value: there is a lot of camera here for the money, especially if you try to match the above spec to a fifferent camera. There are plenty of features, the scene modes do work well and save you set-up time when taking a night shot or something moving fast (sport mode) etc.
On a slight down side is the battery life; it takes two AAs which don't last too long so buy good batteries and take you charger on holiday!
PS. This camera fits nice and snug in the brilliant LowePro D-Res8 pouch.
Great pics and easy to use.......2006-01-13
Having done some homework on the web and read various photo mags I decided on this camera mainly for the 6x optical zoom, and the price on Amazon. I wasn't too bothered by size or functions. All I wanted was a good point and shoot camera that was easy and quick to use. I've had the camera only for a day but it perfectly suits my needs. It's not too small and fiddly. The menu is easy to use. It takes good pics. The optical zoom is larger than most at this level. It even looks good in a retro kind of way. The only negatives are very small internal memory (I purchased a 1gb high speed SD card when I purchased) and lack of a basic case. I have even become used to not having an optical viewfinder. Definately recommended for discerning snappers.
Very, very good.......2005-08-07
Small and light, but not so small that it is awkward to use (like the Nikon 5600). Quick on the draw so that you don't miss that special moment. I was walking through the lake district when the RAF decided to fly through the valley below me. I was able to pull out the camera, switch it on and take a few (reasonable quality) shots before the jet passed by. The zoom is excellent and the image stabilisation is brilliant. Battrey life is at least two to three times better than on my Nikon coolpix 990 with four batteries!! The image quality is good (indoors and outdoors) in good lighting. The outdoor low light images are poor, but since I use this camera on holiday for point and shoot situations in daylight and set situations indoors this is not a problem (becasue the flash is very good).
The main drawbacks of this camera are:
1) Image stabilisation works less well with increasing zoom. It works so well and you get so used to the effectiveness of this feature that you assume it will work at any level of zoom, with the ground moving (e.g. on a boat) and your hand shaking about in the wind. Well it doesn't. Normal physics applies!!
2) The jpeg file compression options are poor. There are only two settings which means that at maximum quality, the files sizes are huge and you cannot store many pictures on the SD card. It would help if there were more options here to compress the files further especially at the 5.0 megapixel end. The Nikon 990 does better here.
3) The inability to zoom in and out while using the movie option is irritating but should not stop you from buying this camera. However, it would be nice to be able to turn the sound recording off since this would probably reduce the file size further and stop it from gobbling up memory.
If you do decide to get this camera then I advise getting the largest SD card you can afford. I use a 1Gb card and can get 1200 images onto this with the camera at the 4 megapixel setting and maximum jpeg compression. Even this is probably not enough if I am off on holiday for two weeks!!
All in all - a very good camera and well worth the money.

True 'over the ear' Closed Back Phones , Top Quality .......2008-01-13
These headphones are just what I have been looking for.
I use headphones for home studio recording and for guitar practice and often wear them for long periods. Obviously sound quality must be good (and these score well here for an open clean and detailed sound) , but a lot of phones have smaller earcups which are ok when wearing for a short time, but become uncomfortable after a time.
Also terrific for listening on my laptop without any sound spill to others in the room.
Would recommend to all home studio owners and musicians !
Good sound...but I wouldn't wear them out!.......2008-01-08
I've had these headphones for a few weeks now - initally buying them to drown out the sound of my neighbours and housemates when I'm trying to work at home. The closed backs do a great job at cutting out background noise and the sound quality through the headphones is great for me. The coiled cord is also a great idea. Even though these are amazingly comfortable I wouldn't wear them outside because theyre so big.
Very good sound at a very low price.......2007-12-09
I have been pleasantly surprised by these headphones, which I bought for use while in the office. It's not overly noisy at work, but with two other people, three computers, and an ancient laser printer, the noise can often become loud enough to be distracting. That's why I opted for these closed-back headphones, which help to isolate the outside noise from the inside sound (just to be clear, these are not noise-cancelling headphones, merely one's where there's a solid bit of plastic cocooning your ears and thus separating 'out there' from 'in here').
They do reduce the office noise better than I was expecting, and mean I can listen to my music at a lower volume than open-backs, with the added benefit of not annoying my peers. The quality of the audio is very good for a £35 set of cans. The bass is full, clear, and warm, being neither overpowering nor distorted. They hit low notes that most integrated speakers I've heard would struggle to find (as a reference for how these perform at the low-end frequencies, Micky Finn's "Urban Shakedown" sounds fantastic). The mid-range is clear and detailed, as is the upper register. Audio separation is good with a wide sound stage - slipping these on it sounds as though you are really there.
All in all the audio quality is a step above any other cans or 'phones I've owned in the past, including a few Sony in-ear buds costing about the same, and miles beyone anything that's been bundled with an MP3 player. OK, they are no where near the audio quality of the higher end Sennheiser offerings, but then they are nowhere near the price of those audiophile cans either (one tenth the price in fact).
Pros: Good audio quality (excellent in fact for the price), good sound isolation, decent heavy-weight coiled cord that doesn't tangle.
Cons: being closed back, and totally cocooning your ear, they can become uncomfortably hot after a while.
For £35, I don't think you can do better than these. Highly recommended.
Excellent Headphones but require a run in.......2007-12-05
These are excellent headphones for theatatrical use. I am a sound engineer for a local theatre group and these provide for very good quality monitoring.
When I first purchased them I was disappointed with the sound quality. After doing a couple of weeks of constant use in the theatre I noticed a definite improvement.
Excellent headphones overall.
Absolutely outstanding product.......2007-11-26
I cannot praise these headphones enough. They are the best pair of phones I personally have owned (although I am sure there are more expensive better ones out there). However, for the tempting price they are a seriously impressive piece of hi-fi equipment. I use them on my ipod and the "extra" sounds they give you are incredible - little bits of music that have previously not been detected now become audible. They make even unremastered CD recordings sound better, which is a perennial problem. Obviously if a track was poorly recorded initially there's only so much the headphones can do (as is the case with old 60s recordings, for example), but more often than not they make a good contribution to the general improvement of the sound. The bass is rich and non-vibrating; the treble not tinny in any way, but crystal clear. The phones are "around ear" as opposed to "on ear", thus reducing "hot ear" problems. Despite their size they are comfortable enough, but they are really for home listening only.
When listening one gets a complete aural experience. The music surrounds your ears without ever hurting them, I am looking forward to hours of pleasure with these phones. Well done Sennheiser.
