NHH:-
Hi there,
The CD player on my Legato system has started playing up - loads of microskips and popping/clicking noises. Pretty disappointing as I bought the unit on the strength of really good experiences with your Evoke and Tempus radio sets but, according to the customer reviews on Amazon, not particularly unusual! There does seem to be a lot of heat build-up in these units, which it probably a contributory factor to their early failure, so is there any point in attempting to have it repaired (I'm hooked on the looks and it still sounds great on radio) or should I consider replacing it - perhaps with a Legato II if that is likely to be any more reliable (eg does it now sport a conventional external heat sink?).
PURE:-
Hi
I'm sorry to say but it sounds as though your PURE Digital product is faulty and will need to be replaced. To ensure the least amount of
time without your product I would suggest you contact your original vendor and return it to them together with a copy of this email, as they may be able to swap the radio for you there and then. If this is not possible then we are more than happy to take a look at the radio for you under the warranty terms.
If you would like us to take a look then please forward a weekday\ daytime address and contact number so we can issue you with a returns authorisation number allowing us to identify the product when it arrives here.

I have already had one replacement from the vendor (*******) due to a cooling fan problem and unfortunately the unit is now out of warrantee, hence my question as to whether repair is likely to be economically viable or would I be better to cut my losses and move on - especially as reading customer reviews indicates that this problem is endemic. And I repeat - is the Legato II likely to be any more reliable?
PURE:-
Apologies, I think I misread the response.
You will need to contact our out of warranty repair specialist - The Radio Service Centre - on 01273 495042 and they will be able to get your radio repaired for you.

Sorry to be a pest, but is this an endemic problem as the reviews suggest? If so there is not much point on spending money on a repair simply for the same thing to fail in two or three years (the almost 20 year old 'separates' system which the Legato replaced was still working as well as the day it was bought) and again - is the Legato II likely any more reliable?
Thanks for the link but regret I can find nothing relevant on your support pages except a note in the Legato II FAQ's saying that it is normal for CDs to feel hot after playing. This does not give me a great deal of confidence as, though it might not damage the CD, heat build up will surely shorten the life of the transport mechanism.

Silence!
Pure legato 2. .......2007-10-24
The legato 2 looks good and sounds good. Plus it has many excellent features, not least, the SD card play/record facility.
However, on my one the alarm played up and often would not come on. In fact the sound would not always work when switched on normally. It was returned to the shop as directed by Pure and OVER TWO MONTHS ON I AM STILL WAITING FOR THE REPLACEMENT, due entirely to supply problems from Pure. I am now looking at alternatives and feel that Pure have a good product but poor customer backup/support which needs to be considered when purchasing. After placing this review I contacted Pure again and told them what I had done. They asked me not to place any more negative reviews, that there was still a supply problem but that thay had a single new Legato that they kept back in reserve and would send it out direct by overnight courier to me as the replacement rather than via the shop. Fourteen days later and still no sign of this replacement unit. But today I did receive a Pure DMX-60 valued at £100 less then the Legato! Pure did not send it and do not know where it came from, nor does the shop I ordered the Legato from originally. Pure, however, tell me that there they have just tracked down two cherry Legato 2s still available in the UK. There intention being to have it delivered to me in 48Hrs. Until then this review must remain "Customer support in name only". Buyer beware. I will amend it as and when the legato arrives.
Fabulous Reception and Looks Great.......2007-09-17
I purchased the Legato 2 after much research and have just set it up, very easily. I bought the "Cherry" finish and the quality look and feel is great, in fact if anything the unit is heavier than I expected.
Autotune soon had me listening through the quality sound speakers and I have set some of the pre-sets already with my favourite radio stations. I was a bit concerned about the other review on Amazon about the slow CD player, but my CD player loads quickly and plays straight away.
The information avaialble on the screen is also very useful and the remote works a treat. I would think that eventually the screens will get bigger, but this one is very legible with a soft blue backlight. I love my first DAB product.
Great idea, ruined by noisy fan and awful cd player........2007-08-27
If your idea of good radio to to hear it over the noise of this internal fan whirring away all the time, then you might like this. If you don't mind that the CD player takes minutes (literally) to get a CD ready to play (or not play, depending on what mood it is in). If you ever unplug it be prepared to wait a minute or two while it turns on / tunes in. And a bright blue light you cant turn off means your bedroom will be brightly lit all night. Oh - did I mention you get the fan noise even when the radio isn't playing?
I thought this would be great - pause the radio, no static on DAB, all those extra channels. In fact, I just ended up listening to my old Sony transistor radio - better sound, no fan noise, quicker. And no blue light at night.
There is no zero star option, but if there was I'd give it.
