Ordered this item but pixmania delivered a different camera........2007-11-22

I ordered this camera at a much cheaper price, from this very page. Amazon confirmed my order for this camera. Pixmania on the other hand delivered a completely different inferior model - not the pictured, completely different spec. Trying to sort out with them what has happened is like wading through treacle. 3 emails in 48hrs and they have not replied to one yet. In the end Pixmania refused to supply the camera I had ordered at the price that had been displayed. They refused to honour the advertised price. They offered it at a much higher price - I chose to have my money back. To add insult to injury when I got the refund it said they were refunding me for this camera - lol - even though this is not the camera they sent. Not happy - i feel scammed. Amazon and Pixmania has messed up and the service from both is terrible. Go buy your item from a real shop.

Varnam VM830BT comes with a unique touch sensitive front panel to control the functionalities. The touch panel provides the user interface for the photo frame there by avoiding protrusive buttons on the frame. A full function remote control complements the touch panel control. Not just that it also has a built in re-chargeable battery for operating it with out the mains power adapter. It also comes with a built in flash memory to store your photos, music or video files The Photo frame can read and display photographs taken in JPEG format, if you insert a memory card with pictures, the frame will automatically start playing them as a slide show. The slide show timings (the time interval for which a particular photo is displayed) can be adjusted between 1 second and 60 minutes. There is a choice of built in transition effects. The photo frame can read and display contents of plain text files contained in the memory card or in the internal memory. Wide viewing angle, with LCD screens, this is an important factor that needs to be considered. In Varman digital frame the viewing angle is 130 degrees when viewed from left to right. 45 degrees when viewed from top and 65 degrees when viewed from bottom. Varnam digital photo frame has a built in rechargeable battery making it convenient to take them around. On a fully charged battery the frame can operate for 1.5* hours. When the photo frame is connected to the mains charger, the battery gets charged and simultaneously it can do its normal functions. Like a LCD television the photo frame uses a LCD panel. Quality of the LCD panels used determines the quality of the display and hence determines the price of the product. Varnam uses one of the highest quality 8 inch displays available with a resolution of 800x480 pixels reproducing rich and vibrant colours. The lifetime of the LCD panel is 20,000 hours. With an average viewing of 10 hours per day this gives a life time of the LCD panel as 5 years

Presence Of Trojan Files.......2008-01-08

With reference to the review/comment posted regarding the presence of Trojan files. This is our observation when we tested the stock item.

1. The Photo Frame doesn't use Microsoft Operating system.
2. The presence of these files DID NOT affect the performance of the Photo frame.
3. Even though some of the anti virus software's flag these files as Trojan, during our tests these files DID NOT infect/ corrupt a PC running Microsoft windows with out any protection.
4. These files DID NOT copy themselves to any memory cards or USB sticks inserted to the photo frames.
5. These files DID NOT copy themselves in to a PC, Mac and Linux when connected using a USB cable. All the three machines DID NOT have any virus protection software.
6.When we deleted these files using anti virus software, the photo frame continued functioning normally, hence we believe these are some unwanted files in the internal memory, we are investigating with the manufacturer as to the need for their presence.

As a precaution and for peace of mind, If you're using Microsoft Windows operating systems, we would suggest to install an anti-virus software if you do not have one already. This will protect and remove any offending code once for all when you connect the PC to the Photo Frame. If your PC doesn't have one, a popular free anti-virus software AVG can be downloaded and installed from the following link.

Thanks for a nice picture frame.......2008-01-07

I have been using varnam picture frame since Christmas. I find this really a nice picture frame. Some of the things I really like are
1. The black finish which fits well with everything I got.
2. The 800x480 resolution for an 8" frame is the best in the market.
3. Brightness and Contrast are very good.
4. It palys music in back ground
5. A new picture everyday feature.
6. I can view the picture from all directions.

One thing I found difficult is the stand at the back. I was not sure how far it would extend, I think I almost broke it. For anyone else trying, the stand opens about 1.5 inches out at bottom and there's an extender to adjust angle.
The remote is quite useful. Thanks to varnam support for helping me to play a video I did not know how to. I really like it.

I can't argue with what other people have said in their reviews, however there are some things they haven't mentioned and I can't give it 5 stars...

Ordered 2pm Thursday, arrived 8.15am Friday - thank you Amazon and E-Bowl!

The resolution is superb, the best I've seen on a frame this price (after many hours of research online and in shops) and the auto-resizing is a welcome feature, which works very well, and you don't have to spend time editing photos on your computer to a different size etc.

So why doesn't it get 5 stars?

1. The aspect ratio of the screen is 16:9, the same as widescreen TVs and not 4:3 which all photos are - great for watching video but not so good for photos.
2. It can only stand in landscape orientation - a simple change to the stand on the back could have made it so much better.
3. It doesn't really look like a photo frame, but more like a portable DVD player screen.

Beware Trojan.......2008-01-01

I very recently bought two Varnams, one for another member of my family. Both function well so far and I am pleased with it. I will add a full review when I have used its functions fully. However meanwhile buyers of it should beware that the software in it may be infected with a Trojan virus. Luckily the security system on my computer recognized it as a Trojan immediately I linked it to my computer and deleted it immediately (on both Varnams). Do not link it to your computer without an adequate security system on the computer. I am alerting Varnam and Amazon to this.

Excellent Present.......2007-12-28

Got this varnham photo frame as an xmas present from my husband. Have been using this for past few days and it is by far the best present I've got for a while. Agree with other reviewers that the quality is very good. I quite like the change picture every 1hr feature. I dont want to bore you too much with the details already mentioned by other reviewes. Thanks.
