cyrus linkdock.......2007-08-09
good sound, simple to use, goes reasonably loud without distorting. I had a black one at the office so we decided to get a white one for home. The firstone was sent back as it didn't always pick up the quiet sounds of a classical piece, and also had a problem with remote control. The two replacements (!) are fine with quiet music, but the remote control again does not work properly. This seems to have been a problem looking back through early reviews, and sadly I am having to give up on the product. I've never had any problems with my black one though
Nice speaker setup but poor remote.......2007-07-04
I ordered one of these after reading several reviews.
This speaker docking system certainly looks the part, being quite sleek and solid, and goes very well with my black 80Gb iPod. As previous reviewers have stated, the sound quality is excellent for a small unit, delivering a good range of sound even when at low volume.
Personally, I use this in my office to supply a bit of backgound music for those long lonely days of paper-pushing, but it would look equally at home in a bedroom or study.
The only poor feature is the remote control. The remote which came with the unit I bought was faulty, and after several emails i eventually managed to get the suppliers to send me a replacement.
The replacement IR remote they sent me works ok at close range, but the speaker unit's IR sensor is located on the top surface of the unit, just below where the iPod slots in.
This means that if the unit is sat on a raised surface such as a desk or worktop - as I imagine most would be - the remote has to be held significantly higher than the unit to enable it to pick up the IR signal.
Even then, the range is limited, and unless within a few feet, getting it to work is a hit-and-miss affair.
The IR sensor would have much better housed on the vertical front section of the unit instead.
If, like me, you plan to have this on your desk within arms reach and are happy to simply use the iPod scroll wheel to operate all the functions, you wont have any problems. However, if planning to stick it up on a shelf somewhere and operate it remotely from your sofa, you may want to consider these issues.
Overall, I'm really quite happy with this Linkdock. If having a long range IR remote control is not such a big deal for you, I would recommend this unit for its sound quality, good looks and solid build.
Cyruslink Linkdock - High Perfomance iPod Docking Speakers.......2007-04-26
My wife was looking for a docking station with speakers that was compact but with good quality sound. After searching the market there seem to be some products that offer a 'bigger' sound, but knowing the Cyrus name from top end Hi-fi equipment I trusted the recommendations and plumped for one.
Once out the box the unit was even smaller than I imagined, I was worried that the small unit would have a small 'tinny' sound. However after listening to an eclectic mix of music the result is a clear crisp sound with everything from dance to rock to metal. I like a bass heavy sound and although some bass junkies may be a little dissapointed I was pleased with the sound.
The only reason to not give 5 stars are;-
- The range of the remote which could / should be better
- The size of the Adaptor which means taking it on holiday etc will be tricky
- The inserts supplied to hold (Nano, Video, Mini Ipod etc) are all supplied but the insert is over tight and the dock actually works better without it.
Overall a well deserved 4/5
Worth it.......2007-01-24
.Very loud and beasty bass for such a small sleek proffesional ipod dock. Great remote too. Although the range isnt that good and you have to be fairly close to atually make it work. But apart from that. Very impressive. go buy 1 and see.
Great little performer for use in any room with no stereo.......2006-10-30
I bought one of these just after the review in What Hi-Fi and I am really very happy with it. It's perfect for using in any room with no stereo, and easily portable. I use it in the kitchen and I can close the door to the rest of the house to stop the cooking smells from going all over the house.
The unit is also fairly portable (but see comment on PSU below). We took it on a trip to Europe to provide some music in our hotel, and it cheered up our hotel room no end.
The mini remote is useful for adjusting volume and for skipping forwards and backwards, but you really need to use the clickwheel to change albums/artists etc. However, that's more a testament to the iPod's great UI, rather than a failing of the dock & remote.
My one gripe would be the power supply. It's a fairly hefty PSU brick, far bigger than say a mobile phone charger and really quite heavy. For all that, it doesn't even support 110v supply as used in North America, and plenty of other world destinations. If you're going somewhere with 100v power, you need to buy another PSU. Still not enough to make it lose a star, I give it 4.5 overall. Rounded up to 5.
Product Description
Set of two transmitter/receiver units. The Pulsar has four separate channels, enabling the photographer to isolate various light sources or to combine them and fire them all at once without leaving the camera. Additionally, the Pulsar has a studio selector switch, which provides isolation from other Pulsar units using the same channel, and allowing up to six different systems to operate independently in the same studio or shooting space. It also has a five-way channel selector switch that allows the photographer to select all flash heads to fire simultaneously or to fire up to four heads individually. The Pulsar features radio instead of IR transmission, allowing it to trigger around corners and through walls. It is also unaffected by high ambient light or low-light situations. The Pulsar s low-voltage operation takes the fear out of connecting an expensive digital camera to a high voltage studio lighting system. Other features include a co-axial PC sync out connection that allows photographers to use their existing sync leads, a DC input socket that allows for long-term installations, and a test button that will allow the Pulsar to be tested without shooting any pictures.
