Good value headphones.......2007-11-28
These headphones are amazing value (bought at £23) with great sound quality and reasonable adjustability. Comfortable and compact design with good styling too.
Since these are closed construction this boosts the bass and helps reduce ambient noise well. N.B. Because of this it is more than likely you will want to adjust the equaliser to give a balanced full range of pitch.
Adjustment of the actual headphones is infinite with a ball - socket joint and the over ear part is flexible rubber. The length of the neckband is NOT adjustable, but seems the right length for me (quite big head!) and will certainly last since its metal reinforced.
Well designed with a good single sided cable design to help prevent tangling and snagging. Plenty long enough cable too (1.2m)
Slight niggle that there are 2 small cables going into each of the phones that may get snagged if you're not careful. As with all other neckband headphones they are not folding, however the ear pieces do fold flat.
Any reviews saying they look fragile are wrong, they're tough and anyway, there is a 2 year warranty if you do manage to break them!!
I know some people don't like neckband headphones, I reccommend you try some neckband headphones before you buy.
Great sound - but completely unwearable.......2007-05-15
These arrived yesterday, and I have to admit I'm pretty disappointed.
The sound quality is great - as most people have come to expect from Sennheiser. This is my second pair, and my girlfriend has a pair too - so safe to say that sound for the price is amazing.
Unfortunately, however, the neck-band design just doesn't work for me - and I suspect I won't be alone.
I wouldn't say I've got a particularly unusual head, in fact as a six foot tall bloke I'd say my head is pretty much standard proportions. Enough capacity to hold my brain and all the other bits that are in there - but not so big I ever have a problem finding hats to fit.
Similarly I think I've got pretty normal ears. They're not trophy handles, but nor are they vole-like.
But whoever Sennheiser designed these headphones for, it certainly wasn't for me. The neckband is just unbelievably big - so much so that it feels like it's flapping about behind my head. Worse than this, because it is so big (and heavy) it forces the headphones to sit at a really funny angle on my ears - meaning I can never get a perfect fit.
I was desperately looking for a way to shrink the band - the way you do with any other set of headphones - but this isn't an option. You're stuck with the Sennheiser standard fit.
The ear clips also have a really funny fit - they seem to assume that my ears should be about 3 times they size they are. Again, not user-adjustable.
The earphones themselves are a bit heavy - but I expected this to get a bit better sound quality. But the neckband is unjustifiably heavy and large. It really does weigh the whole thing down, and drags the earphones to a funny angle (made worse by the weird shaped earclips). This has the unwanted side effect that the neckband then rubs against your clothing (particularly bad if you wear anything with even a hint of a collar), which sends a loud rubbing vibration to the earphones. Not exactly what you want if you're planning on using these for running, which is what I suspect a lot of people buy them for.
So overall, I'm pretty gutted really - I was very excited about these, but the strange fit, hampered by a lack of adjustment, makes them all but unwearable.
My advice - by all means consider these as an option, but try them on somewhere before you commit to buying - if your head is the Sennheiser shape then you'll love them, but if not you'll be as dissapointed as me.
Damn good headphones.......2007-03-29
I got my PMX 200 yesterday and im totally happy with them. The sound is impressive, typical Sennheiser. I find them very comfortable as well. I found u get slightly noises while moving ur head but as soon as the music started i cudnt hear them anymore. I read in previous reviews that the bass isnt gd, but i must strongly disagree, the bass is nice and clear. All in all damn gd headphones, totally worth its money.
Not a good fit which impacts sound quality.......2007-03-19
I bought the PMX200 in hope for sound equal to OMX50VC, which have great sound, but I find inner ear headphones make my ears itch like crazy.
Unfortunately I was disappointed because the the PMX200 would not fit or stay in place for me or my partner. I'm 5'6" with a small head, while my partner is 6'5" with a large head. However, when we used our hands to position them and held them with slight pressure against our ears the sound was exceptional and clear, the bass was not powerful but was good. (Plugged into a Mio PDA P550 with no bass adjustment).
Commuter's Dream.......2006-10-25
I use these headphones with an MP3 player, predominately whilst commuting to work on the train. They are pretty comfortable, don't leak sound (unless you REALLY crank up the volume - and even then it's fairly light leakage) and do a reasonable job of isolating you from external sound. My journey is short (15/20 minutes normally) and they are ideal for that. I also use them if I have jobs to do around the house - DIY normally - and I always get in trouble with my wife as she cannot tell that my player is on and I cannot hear her (as I said they don't leak sound and they isolate fairy well).
They are fantastic for the price however they are not without problems.
1. I have a set of PX100s which have a fancy carry case that they fold into. These don't have a case and I'm not sure how long the ear clips will last based on this fact - although I've had them a couple of months now and they haven't broken yet!
2. When I first used them I found them very uncomfortable if worn for an extended period of time - over time they have become more comfortable but they are still not perfect.
As you would expect with a Sennheiser product the sound quality of great with nice pounding base - unlike other headphones there is no need to up the volume to get good bass response. The speakers are fairly large and as you up the volume there is no distortion of the sound.
I like these and I'm giving them 8/10.
