I had been looking for an iPod case for ages which was really tough, great quality, and would keep my 30Gb baby looking as expensive as it did when it first came out of the packaging. I bought this one of the back of the other reviews here and it was a good move.
The leather is great quality and the stitching is beautiful. Unlike one of the other reviewers, mine does have the protection at the sides as shown in one of the product images.
Also, mine does not leave the front of the iPod totally exposed (as shown in another of the images of the inside of the case) - perhaps the stock has recently changed to a new design and there is a mix of product images here?
Instead, mine has a leather-stitched covering for the iPod face (you slide the iPod into it), just leaving the clickwheel and the screen exposed so no need for an Invisible shield.
The fit is really snug but not too tight and the aluminium sheets inside the leather make it really tough - can't see it getting damaged from the normal drops and knocks it gets.
Yes, it makes it bulkier but not excessively so and I have even found a way of storing the headphones using the case. I wind them around the section of leather which joins the back of the case to the flip front. Once the popper is done up, it holds them beautifully in place! I have not found another case that does this so neatly.
There is access to all the essentials when done up (hold switch, headphones jack, USB port).
This is a top purchase and well worth the high-ish price. I tried an iVak soft feel case before this - looked horrible, felt horrible. This is the other end of the spectrum - highly recommended.

This case for me is perfect, as it fits my 5G 80GB iPod very very snugly, and seems that once closed, acts as an undamagable shell. However, I must point out that, although not a problem for me, there are a few minor areas of individual use.
There is quite a lengthy process of opening it and closing it, and mine came with closed sides (different to those below perhaps?) and so if you are the type of person who will listen to half a song, get bored and want to change the band, album, etc., this will take ages in comparison to something cheaper and more risky such as the iSkin.
Also, for those perfectionists out there, this case really is a tight fit, and the strap to close it does need a bit more force to close than your average magnet-snapper, meaning everytime you'll be wondering whether or not you've caused any indentations or blemishes. However, I have easily avoided this risk by simply leaving the iPod with the protective front layer of plastic that it came with, which is still thin enough to use efficiently.
If like me you can listen to your music without constantly having to skip songs you don't like, then this is a marvellous buy, worth every penny that you spend.
Good but not a true likeness in the pictures!.......2007-04-20
Recieved this case today seems well made, but in the pictures it shows that the sides and tops are protected, they are not,! a true picture is the first one only showing open sides and top!, it is ok for me because i use an i trip and docks so it is easy to get out or slip down in the cover allowing acess, (for my 80 gig), but if you are worried about the case allowing its sides and top to be completley exposed then this case may not be for you! basically it just covers the front and back but is very well made.

Excellent case. I confess to a slight fetish for cases and have been through a few in the course of owning two iPods. The Proporta is simple, elegant, practical and offers great protection. Tried an iSkin before this but tired of the titanic struggle required to get it on and off to drop the ipod into its docking station (whatever iSkins say, you can't put a Pod in a rubber skin into a docking station). With this, however, you just slip the Pod down in its case a few millimetres and it drops sweetly in. The work of seconds. As has been observed elsewhere, I guess you need a screen protector to fully protect your screen but I don't live in a war zone and have never been that precious. It's almost always folded into the case anyway. Sweet.

I bought this because I have a Proporta case for my PDA, and have been very impressed with the quality.
This case is rather more rigid than I expected, but it looks like it will protect the iPod from any knocks less than those which would damage the workings themselves. It is well-made, the leather is good, the fastening works well (magnetic) and the looks are to my taste (the Amazon photo is a fair representation). It is bulky, but that is unavoidable with this level and style of protection.
Do get yourself a screen protector, though.
