Will Westwood is right. You cannot control the volume from your iPod. But the two settings seems OK. Plus is quite loud, minus perfect for a hotel room late at night. One other point: if you have a "skin" case for your iPod, better to remove it. It prevents the speaker sitting snugly on the bottom of the machine, and so it's very, very easily knocked off. All in all, ideal for outdoors or travelling -- no more than that. Which is, after all, what it's meant for. A small carrying pouch and instructions on the packet would have been nice, but it doesn't take long to work it all out.

I got this speaker yesterday, and was impressed by the volume output, and also the sound quality. It does look good when attached, but if it's knocked or nudged, the speaker may detach slightly form the dock. PLEASE NOTE: the description on this webpage says that volume is controlled by the ipod. this is NOT TRUE. There is a '+' and '-' switch on the back. I thought this would indicate a higher or lower start volume, or something to similar effect. However, it is just high or low volume full stop, you CANNOT control the volume via the iPod, it is simply high or low. This can be annoying, as each setting may be too high or too low, and there's no way of adjusting it. I bought it to put on while I'm in my house, as I didn't want to shell out god knows how much on a mainstream speaker system.

As I said, sound quality and volume is super, but volume CONTROL isn't.
