WARNING: INCORRECT HP TECHNICAL SUPPORT/POOR CUSTOMER CARE.......2007-09-20

I would never recommend this machine nor any other HP machine because of the incorrect and missing information I received from HP Customer Support in India and the stonewalling I got from HP Customer Care in the UK who were totally disinterested in helping me. My machine developed a hardware fault after 5 months when I tried to change the cartridge. It was also grabbing extra sheets of paper from the paper tray during printing. HP agreed to replace it under the terms of the warranty. I was told by HP Customer Support in India to keep the accessories, listing the leads and the cartridges. When the machine finally arrived (a day later that I was indicated by HPCS in India) it had no control panel overlay and without this piece of plastic the machine will not run the set up function. Apparently, I was supposed to prize the control panel overlay off my faulty machine and keep it. This I was not not asked to do by HPCS. Who would think to? As a result, I was sent a machine that would not work. I have had to wait a further 10 days for the replacement panel. HPCustomer Care said they were sending this to me free of charge - although I had not fulfilled the terms of the warranty by not retaining the panel. When I asked for something to be sent sooner because I really needed to use the machine urgently, they said their 'systems' would not allow this.I am a freelance writer who relies on this printer to earn a living. HPCC couldn't CARE less. This is yet another situation where PROCESS comes before people. If I treated my customers like this I wouldn't have any.

I too have now got a broken printer having tried to insert (probably) the third colour cartridge (left hand side this time) - a small piece of plastic holding a piece of wire that holds in the cartridge has broken off causing the wire to make a hole in the memory board and the WHOLE Printer Scanner Copier Fax etc will no longer work - it is fourteen months old. I was interested to read that other people have obviously had a similar problem caused by poor design and consequently this printer which cost £215 just over a year ago is absolutely useless. I have just bought a new Cannon.

...for 15 months, I loved this machine and it worked perfectly. With low-medium use, I have just needed to change the ink cartridges for the 2nd time. And that's when the problems started. First I received the error message that it was an incompatible ink cartridge (it was the correct one and it was HP branded, not generic). After that, it just keeps showing the error message - please check the right ink cartridge (the black one). I've tried HP's various suggested fixes (involving distilled water and cotton buds), all to no joy. Out of warranty (just) and the printer is broken.

Having searched the net, weirdly it seems that a lot of other people have had problems with HP printers when it comes to inserting the 3rd set of cartridges. My mom's printer suffered the same fate.

Does what it says on the box.......2007-07-01

I have had my 7210 for 18 months now - and with reasonable amount of use at home for my small business. Generally this printer works and has done all of my scanning, printing and faxing without too much complaint.

However, I now have to look for a similar replacement. The only thing that has happened to it is that some dust has got into the document feed rollers (beyond where I can clean) giving a lovely coloured stripe down every scan. But now, the print rollers are not working meaning that there is a constant "paper jam" also unfixable. Being an environmentally-sound soul, I would just like to get this fixed and carry on my merry way - but it looks as though this is not a very good option. Last time I tried to recycle a PDA in Canada, it cost me like $30CAD. I can't make much sense of the very slow hp website in terms of buy-backs and recycling. At this point it looks like sending to the local recycling plant - but I am sure my machine has some life in it yet???
