Great Gadget.......2008-01-13
This is an essential bit of kit if like me all your music is stored on the computer in the back bedroom and you would like to listen to it on the lounge stereo system.
It was not all plain sailing to get it set up though, I could stream music from my laptop but not from my pc even though I was using windows media player 11 & windows xp on both computers. The problem was that when I tried to configure sharing in the options tab of media player it would not let me search for devices to let me share my media with. After hours of endless searching for an answer, I finally found out that you have to make some adjustments in the admin tools. It was rectified by opening the control panel, then opening performance and maintenance, then I went into admin tools and opened services. I then had to scroll down to Universal plug and play and changed the startup type to Automatic as it was Disabled. I also had to change SSDP Discovery Service to Automatic as this too was disabled.
Also if you are thinking about getting a PS3 or Xbox360 in the near future you might like to know that these consoles also function as a network audio player.
Had to deduct one star as I think the display screen could have been made a little bigger but overall a think this is a great product.

Great product at a great price.
Really easy to set up. Even without a PC you can get up to 5000 stations instantly working.
The software disk has a radio snoop which allows you to find lots of other internet radio stations and save them to the Soundbridge.
Setting up with Windows Media player takes a bit of fiddling but it works fine.
Biggest drawback is that it can play only streamed Windows Media and NOT Realplayer.
Whereas other internet radios play both WM and Real.
Also lots and lots of radio stations only use Real.
I cant see why Roku/Pinnacle dont update their software to support it.
There must be a reason. It's a big feature which is missing.

I took a chance on this as it appears to be too good to be true. I was wrong. It immediately found my wireless network and my PC's music. It does take a lot of fiddling around to get the best out of it and the Roku forums are priceless for this. I now have access to 4000+ radio stations plus all the music & playlists from the 2 PCs in the house. One can browse by genre, album, artist etc, and a shuffle feature is included. I cannot recommend this gadget enough. It has, quite simply, transformed the way I listen to music. It is a bargain too!

Maybe not in the fashionable glossy piano black or Mac white style, but neither is my (aging) separates HiFi, which is hidden in a cupboard. On installation, it seeks out upgraded firmware to get the latest automatically (twice in my case). To create the wireless link from your PC you'll need to download the free server software (Firefly) but be sure to seek out the latest version (which curiously was still not on the Roku site when I bought this in December 07) and also a small program (bonjour). Plenty of free support on sites run independently of Roku - try the forum at fireflymediaserver.org for the best.
Great for parties - set up a playlist in advance and you could have non-stop music for hours. Listen to interent radio from over 5,000 stations worldwide - great if English is not your native tongue. For this money you just can't go wrong.

I also had had the problem of the unit not accepting my WPA network key. I turned off Encryption on my router, connected and updated the firmware and then all was ok. It picked up my Media Library no problem and was then up and working in minutes. Great piece of kit.
