Just arrived today. I had my laptop downstairs right by the phone socket but wanted it upstairs. I'd heard that having an extension could decrease your connection speed. My average connection speed by the phone was 6.9mb.

So I was a little nervous about getting a cable this long - but the price was right - so I gave it a go.

And I'm glad I did - I'm now upstairs, plugged in and surfing the net at a rate of 7.0mb!

What a a bargain piece of equipment.

I'm pretty clued up about I.T but even I get confused about exactly what spec plugs/cables etc. you sometimes need. Basically if you have the broadband modem supplied by AOL (and almost certainly the other big "highstreet" internet providers) then this is the cable you need to connect the modem to the ISDN line splitter (the little white box they send out with the modem that plugs into your phone socket).

The cable itself is pretty sturdy with thick protective metal braiding surrounding the actual data cables & the plugs at each end are equally sturdy. 7.5 metres is long enough for most applications. My phone socket is by the front door & this cable can just reach up the stairs to the back bedroom where we keep the PC. The only problem with this cable is that it twists easily when coiling it, mainly because the protective coating is quite "springy" and kinks a bit- I'd really advise buying or making something to wind it round.

Its worth knowing that Amazon are selling it for less than a third of the price (for exactly the same product) as charged by a certain big PC supply company found on most of Britains retail parks.
