Light tastic.......2007-10-31
This is an attractive and easy to install keyboard. The illuminated keys make typing in poor light great and I do not have to rely on an irritating desk lamp spoiling the screen view, especially when absorbed in adventures. My only gripe is the tiny backspace key. It usually is the size of two keys and I am constantly having to correct hitting the # key instead. I would recommend it as good value and nice to use.
OK - except for non-durable characters on keys........2007-04-21
I don't usually use an illuminated keyboard in full darkness but I tend to work in natural light and it is handy for those days when the ambient light levels come and go with the clouds. It's also handy at dusk, as I don't have go and switch a light on, just to find the keyboard.
This is my third illuminated keyboard and I've been using it for 3 months.
The first keyboard had to go after about a year 'cos too many characters were worn from the keys. The last one just kept missing keypresses too often (it only lasted about 8 weeks). Those other two were non-branded from eBay suppliers, so I thought this one may be better, as the supplier was putting their name on it.
As expected, the keys are low profile like a laptop, but still have as much vertical movement as a standard keyboard. I felt this helped me to avoid unintended key presses as my fingers fly randomly across the keyboard. It continues to work well mechanically.
I've nearly got used to the backspace delete key now being the smallest key on the keyboard (the "\" key is the only other one that size). This seems to have been done to accommodate the new position of the "#" key in the top row (something else I'm trying to get used to).
In the past I've been careful to choose keyboards with conventional full UK layouts. Especially those groups of keys between the normal keys and the numeric keypad (eg the arrow keys, Insert, Delete, Home End) as I tend to use these quite a lot. So this was one reason for selecting this particular keyboard.
My first illuminated keyboard didn't have illuminated function keys so that was another thing I've made sure I check for since.
One other downside with this keyboard is the high pitched hum from the backlight, but I've also got used to that, until now when I'm thinking about things for this review. I wasn't aware of that with the previous keyboards, but as this keyboard was the first to have an on/off switch that may have drawn my attention to it.
However, after 3 months usage, almost half the "N" has disappeared and a couple of other characters are starting to show their age. In my view that takes this keyboard into the "also ran" category.
It's not the worst illuminated keyboard I've had. This one at least worked OK for me in Windows XP Home (without installing any drivers).
If there was a straightforward way of replacing the letters on the keys, I could see me sticking with this keyboard for the foreseeable future, but I reckon on replacing it in months rather than years.

Inadequate instructions - MultiMedia Buttons donot work - set-up floppy disc is driver installation only - no screen options to setup keys. Does not appear to becompatible with XP Pro andspacing in typingis as you see. Lighting function is excellent and in principle fully functional it would be agood keyboard
