Please discount the above review, the only realistic reason for problems with the card over heating are either; he didn't have a powerful enough power supply to run the card efficiently, his case was too small and thus the heat wasn't escaping properly, or perhaps the card was installed incorrectly.
Providing you have an up to date case which is big enough for modern components, an adequate power supply i.e. 650 watts or over and have a fan somewhere in your case, I cannot see any problems with this card.
After over a year it is still the fastest available and almost all users report a perfectly functionable peice of hardware which will easily run any game on max settings.
Too hot, or not.......2007-09-21
I recently bought this card, as I wanted to make an upgrade without having to buy a completely new system.
Out of the box you realise it is a very large graphics card. I had to move my hard drives and wires around in the case to allow it to fit into the PCI-E slot.
It wasn't too difficult to get it together and working, so it was soon running nicely.
However the first thing I encountered was that the case temprature was going up and causing games to stop. As I tracked down the problem it wasn't a problem with the card itself, but it did add to the extra heat generated in the case.
This is something I would warn potential buyers about. Not necessarily with this card in general, but with any highend card. You do need to think about what it will do to the heat profile in your case.
Anyone buying this card will probably have the knowhow to sort it out. :) IN the end I had to add an extra fan to my case.
