Not having a serial port on my laptop, this bit of kit is essential for me. It consists only of a serial to USB adaptor, and a CD Rom containing the software needed to make it work with a USB port. Even Amazon's reduced price ... (it is still more on the Palm website!), is well over the odds for such a basic piece of equipment. Much as I am enjoying my Palm Vx, I don't like companies that fleece me just because they know they can get away with it. I'm fast coming to the conclusion that Palm have some pretty sharp marketing practices!

This is a nifty piece of kit that lets you connect your Palm up via USB as opposed to using the serial port. The only reason you'd need this is if you have a Mac, or a laptop like mine (a Sony Vaio) that has the serial port on a docking station but a USB port built in. It's a bit pricey for what you get though, and I do wonder if a normal usb to serial adapter might not work just as well at a fifth of the price. Installation is easy enough, plug in the palm and install the driver from the disc provided. From there it's just the same as using the serial connection. One thing to note that isn't clear here or on the Palm site - this works with almost ANY palm device that uses a serial connection - including the M100 (the one I have.)
