Decent phone with some big drawbacks.......2007-07-09

When i first got this phone i loved it and for the most part I still think this is a good phone but as with everything in life there are some minus points to it.

The good points for this phone are that it is small and compact, will play mp3s for your ringtone and the menus are easy to follow so it is rare to find yourself lost while looking for something.

now for the downsides - you can only select from the pre installed standard message tones! Why?!?!, sending a text seems to become very laborious when you are adding numbers to sends the text too, there is no copy all to sim function which isnt a problem until you need to change phones and then it becomes a nightmare absense. however i have had this phone for 18 months and been happy with the phone itself the only reason i am now chenging and never buying another samsung phone is the chargers. I dont know if other peaople are finding this problem or if i am just very unlucky but i have gone through 4 chargers in the 18 months i have had this phone! I have treat these chargers no different to any other chargers i have for other products or phones infact i have been even more carefull with theem since the first two died on me! I have found my chargers die for absolutley no reason at all i go to plug my phone in when the battery is almost gone and find my charger doesnt work, this is very annoying (and expensive when a new charger is £10!)

I would recommend caution when thinking about these phones, i enjoyed the phone but was very dissapointed with the chargers!

I have hated this phone from the day I bought it! Where a Nokia takes 3 clicks to send a text.... this takes at least 10 GRRRRR...... I use my phone as my alarm and it has let me down on many occasions... not good!

I am now upgrading to a D800 (freebie) cos this one is so unreliable and find I cannot transfer my contacts to my SIM???? Can't believe it..... how basic is that? It will take me hours to do this manually. It will be the last time I pay for a Samsung.

Those who have found this phone such a joy make valid points - it is a good phone and I have found it to be both simple and practical. It has a pretty great camera and is (despite an annoying lack of expandable memory, rectified by the D600 release) generally a great little package..**However**, and this cannot be ignored as some suggest, in defence of the user below who mentions upgrade problems, please be aware that you cannot copy all contacts to SIM! It absolutely beggars belief but, despite making pretty cool phones, Samsung always seem to fall down when it comes to the simple stuff! Must try much harder guys!! I've just upgraded to the D900 and, yes, believe it or not I must copy all contacts to SIM 1 by 1! Shocking. Why don't I use the USB cord and software for the D500/D900 phones you ask? Because once again Samsung have failed the consumer and made versions 2.0 and 3.0 of their (as a result, relatively useless) supplied software (for D500 and D900 respectively) non-compatible! So I can't seem to import contacts from the 2.0 software, let alone my D500! In short, Samsung have failed me when it really mattered to make life simple and this really must be considered before investing in *any* Samsung phones.

I found this phone really simple to put pictures, songs, sounds onto and to send them ack to my computer, if there was an option for 4 and 1/2 stars i would choose that because this phone is so simple to use, I didn't read the instruction manual at all the only time I got a bit stuck was when I couldn't get the MMS function to work but that was the fault of my service provider not Samsung. The camera is really good but just so you know to get really good quality pictures you need to go into Camera off the main menu then onto settings and change the picture quality on there. Overall I love the phone it has a great design and the speaker that comes with it is great it doesn't just increase the volume it inreases the quality of the sound as well which is really good. Woooooooo samsung rule!!!

BRILLIANT PHONE! WORTH EVERY PENNY!.......2006-07-22

I am a little confused by the guy who says he wants to smash it up with a hammer....because I have had no problems with mine since I bought it since it was released! I think the navigation is brilliant, the buttons feel comfortable to use, the look is sexy and texting is easy and it takes me just a few seconds to fill a whole page of text, its quick and easy to do it. However I got my phone when it was very expensive and now its went down in price, thats even better for people who want a good phone. The features on it are superb, bluetooth, infra red are good to use and if you save your mates or families bluetooth to your phone then you can change their names if you like unless you keep their names instead. MMs is easy to use, e mail, sending pictures is good, downloading off the internet is good and ringtones are good too but I have downloaded music onto mine to use for ringtones. Oh and the record feature is fantastic and the video and camera quality is very good too! I have heard many people say it takes 3 seconds for it to take a picture, well the thing is if you have it on a high quality setting yes it will take 2 seconds for it to take but any lower then a picture will be taken straight away. The games on here and alarm, phone book, layout, colour layout are all eay to undertant to use and there is a lot more on offer, but I think this is worth every penny and I suggest you ignore the people who have had problems with theirs because I have had no problems what so ever with mine!
