Nice bit of kit pity about the quality.......2007-12-19
Nice little camera, tiny, easy to handle, good user friendly software, works fine with vista, good price for all the bits. The down side - Quality isn't brilliant!, don't even dream of using it on anything but the High Quality (HQ) setting, (set it on this as soon as you unpack it!) highlights are washed out in bright light/sunlight, and sharpness is a bit soft and a little disappointing, colour cast is also abit flukey. Don't beleive all the reviews you read here, if you have any expectations or concerns about quality or intend on buying this for a special event, nip to a high street outlet for a test first. Apart from this, a nice bit of kit, however if you have another £200 for the HD it may be another option. Downloading and editing is a dream. The low light feature is of no use unless you are into green and black scary images with luminous eyes, and the spare batteries are expensive £80 for the 10hr. Would I buy it again with hindsight - probably not.

I'd been playing with the idea of getting a camcorder for quite some time so I did allot of research into what to look for and which brands offered what and so I settled on the Sony, it's the best all round and I've owned a wide variety of Sony stuff in my lifetime and they all are top build quality.
The SR72 was it for me cause of the 1MP CMOS recording capability which to be honest at first I didn't think it would be enough but after using it this weekend on my holiday to Amsterdam then playing it back on my plasma the other evening I was nothing short of amazed at how clear the picture was and how clear the sound was. It also takes pretty good still pics.
An all round winner for me, you wont be disappointed!
DCR-SR72.......2007-11-16
Ordered the camera on Sunday arrived at my home on Tuesday. Easy to order and good service from Amazon.
Have taken some videos and photos and plyed them back on TV. They are good quality and setup is very easy.
I'm having difficulties with viewing the videos on the computer, the photos are visible but the video clips dont seem to be playing on Microsoft media player. It probably something I'm doing wrong but if anyone can help, id appreciatr it.

Easy to use, compact, excellent image quality. My only problem is that i can't figure out how to get it to work on windows movie maker. I would recommend and amazon was cheapest when i bought it a few weeks ago.

I'm very pleased with this camcorder, which I've now had for a couple of weeks. However, here are a couple of bits of feedback:
1) The manual is not very helpful when it comes to connecting to your computer and installing the software. The Handycam station should ideally be plugged into the mains, and the camera should click into position on the station otherwise the connection is not properly made. Once it is made, you should see a range of connection options on the camcorder screen, including two for Computer. Select the one on the left. This is what is meant by "choosing the connection mode".
2) After I'd done this I was able to install the software and burn a DVD. This in spite of the fact that I use a two-year-old VAIO. It's very strange, when I first rang Sony support they told me that the camcorder is not compatible with the VAIO. However, in a subsequent call the SONY computer technician kindly spent a lot of time taking me through the entire process over the phone and everything works fine. So, if you've got one, this thing about the VAIO seems to be incorrect after all. If you make sure you've done everything right in 1) above, all should be fine. It was for me, at any rate.
