The Lens in the Illustration at the time of this review is NOT a 50-500mm it is a 170-500mm and also not HSM, you will find that the price is about right for the lens illustrated.
Once amazon correct this error i hope they remove this review.

This item when ordered does not arrive as a 50-500mm f4-f6.3 APO EX DG lens
it is a 170-500mm APO DG lens.Have returned item and await replacement.
Ahh! Sheer 500mm pleasure.......2007-12-17
I was looking for a longer lens for wild life photography. As the Nikon AF-S VR 70 to 200 F2.8 is a fantastic lens, but a little short for this job. I trawled the net searching all the wildlife club sites etc, searching for a lens that would meet my needs.To my suprise the Sigma 50/500 kept cropping up.When I finaly made my mind up that this was the lens for me, I contacted Simply Electronics and besides getting the lens at the best price from them, the lens was delivered in double quick time.I received emails at every step from confirmation of my order to the tracking number and then to the esitimated delivery date and finaly wishing me the very best with my new purchaes. I can't thank Nancy White, from Simply Electrics enough for all her help.
Well now, I was'nt disappointed with the lens. It did every thing that I asked it to do and then some. The lens focuses extremely quickly and is spot on every time. I then purchased the Sigma 2x EX DG APO tele converter and fitted it to my Nikon D200 and then to the 50-500 lens. Well! you can pick out a sparrows toe nails at 800 feet! The only gripe that I have is that with the tele converter on, you can't use the auto focus, which can be a bit of a pain. But the combination is fab.
This combination I feel is a must have for any serious photographer.
