Excellent quality photo printer.......2007-08-28

It was a choice beetween Canon & HP. I chose the HP printer D7160 due to low running costs and good reviews. It is also well built and looks and like a quality product. The printer has worked reliably for the last couple of months. With many photos printed the ink levels are still on maximum - very good. Photos are excellent with lots of detail in the dark areas (sometimes a problem with other printers), and colours are good - nicely saturated with good skin tone. I've had no blocked nozzles or other printing problems. I've used HP Premium plus and Fuji papers with really great results -- in colour, sepia and B&W. The card readers work well and can load directly to PC or print directly. Normal printing is very fast. Downsides? Need to be little careful when images first printed - the images dry and improve over a few hours, it has manual double sided printing (which is easy to do)- some competitors do auto double sided. The software that comes with it is similar to others and is good enough, (I prefer using full blown photo editors and printing software that came with a Canon Camera) -- -- Dont hestitate -- this is an excellent printer from a known good brand and it is very economical on ink when compared to others. So unless you really need automatic double sided printing I'd go for the HP D7160.

HP 7160.......2007-08-18

I have owned the HP 7160 printer for 3 months. I am very impressed with the quality of the printed images and seem as good, or better than a 6x4 print from a 35 mm film print. It is easy to use and does not require a computer to process digital camera photographs. When printing ordinary BW text, it is very fast. One slight quibble, if you printing A4 size high quality pictures, it goes through the ink cartridges pretty fast.
