Very stylish and compact design, solidly built, quiet and fast in operation. Photo quality is excellent with vivid colour, lots of contrast and lots of detail. Borderless prints are excellent, and non-Canon paper can be used, for example Novatech's very cheap photo paper. I would recommend using only Canon original inks, to prevent the possibility of damage to print heads: note that these original inks are amongst the cheapest such available. Software controlled duplex is very useful although this is probably a feature of all Canon printers that do not have hardware duplex. Scanning and copying stand-alone are excellent. Replacing the ink is easy and there is no possibility of any ink spill unlike the i865 for example. I got a good deal on price, but the list price seems relatively high so not necessarily good value. Recommended on all but price.

From the time I got the MP390 it has copied/printed so wet that if there is much solid colour/black on the page it comes out like a wet dishcloth. Canon helpdesk say this is normal. I get round the problem by using a (reliable) HP printer for printing and using the MP390 only for the occassional copying, when I have to manually (it cannot be done from the PC) select the lowest density. However after a few seconds the density reverts to default (ie soaking) just to catch you out - and there is no facility for adjusting the default. The result is hugely expensive (about £1 per sheet/10-15 sheets per black cartridge)and often unuseable copies. I shall be steering well clear of Canon in future.
Fantastic all in one printer.......2005-03-23
I purchased one off these printer last year for my fiancé, we mainly use it for it for printing photos from our digital camera and the quality is fantastic it prints pretty good pictures borderless up to A4 too. We have used it quite a lot over the last year for work and for leisure with no problems at all, the only problem we have encountered is it didn't have Mac os x drivers out of the box but that was soon sorted with a download.
Ink for this printer is also very cheap compared to some of the other printers we have owned and feature wise its pretty good too, the scanner and copy functions are very fast and the support for all different types of media cards is also very handy.
