Many people are getting more and more electrical gadgets and appliances that need the scart socket on their TV's. A quality scart switching box such as the SBX-94SE allows the connection of 3 devices to the one scart socket. You then choose which you want to send to the TV with the bank of switches on the front. The next and becoming the most important feature for our customers is RGB compatibility. Even if your TV has got more than 1 scart socket it doesn't guarantee they are all fully RGB wired. RGB is very desirable because of the picture quality difference over standard composite scarts. If you have Sky, DVD or games consoles it is a sin not to have them connected via RGB if at all possible. The SBX-94SE (unlike many other boxes on the market) is fully RGB compatible on all scart inputs so you can enjoy top picture quality with all your kit! The copy function allows you to select either scart input 2 or 3 to be output through scart 1 for recording purposes. So you could be watching scart 2 or 3 and also recording that signal back to scart 1 (this could be your VCR for instance)

A pretty solid, reliable & well thought out little AV scart switching box.......2007-12-14

We have had this AV scart switching box with our Panasonic E55 DVD recorder for three years now and it has worked perfectly. The first row of buttons switch between what goes to the DVD recorder (in our case the digital scart output from our Sky box and our Freeview TV box - switch to either and that output appears on our DVD recorders AV2 input, and you can switch while recording via the DVD recorder). This leaves the second DVD recorder scart AV input free for other uses. A second set of 3 buttons on the Vivanco box switch between the DVD recorder, Sky and Freeview, so that you can watch any of them via the TV AV1/2 input (while the DVD recorder remains set to record whatever the first three buttons are set to - and if it's selected by these latter buttons you can watch what is being recorded on DVD and get any on-screen info, e.g. recording time left).

The box is fully wired to all scart pins so you get full RGB throughput, provided you have fully wired scart leads - not supplied. There's a captive output scart lead (~1m long) for the TV so you don't have to supply this - and theres a twin phono audio out so you can supply sound to a hi-fi system, but I expect it's only from the scart source selected not the TV sound. The scart leads all hang out of the back, and provided the Vivanco box sits on the floor (e.g. behind the TV/stand) the leads all fit in snuggly and rest flat on the ground where they aren't pulled out by gravity.

We have found this unit very reliable and the switches always work perfectly with no crackling at all. We get no bleed through of signal either. I paid £30 for this good little box in the high street a few years ago, but now I have bought a cheaper identical Vivanco box via an Amazon reseller for our second Panasonic DVD/hard drive recorder (that allows us to record on one while watching a DVD on another or record a different channel). Make sure you buy decent scart leads (e.g. £8 rather than £2.50) though. The only downside is that the rear scart entry would make the box ideal for stacking one Vivanco unit on another, but sadly the stylish sloped top sadly makes that pretty impossible. But otherwise, great !
