if only a little smaller.......2006-06-17
I have used 4 generations of these housings now over the last 15 years, they do get better each time but with the exception of the now obsolete spk-pc4 they are all a little large. Far larger than is needed to ensure buoyancy and a little awkward to hold. That said, as long as you keep the lens window clean (a little bit of saliva keeps spray from beading) and the camera positioned correctly inside the results can be very good. It does of course keep your camera dry as well!
I have always used them in safety boats taking footage of dinghies in conditions where the spray would otherwise kill a digicam very quickly. Above the water the see through case of the later designs means the view finder can be very hard to see so a little use of opaque sticky tape around the viewfinder window makes it easier to see through. The fold out window tends to be fairly useless above the water too as with even a little sun around it is difficult to see properly, the use of the the screen kills the batteries off quicker as well.
I have just bought the latest one, the HCA which is getter a bit smaller but is still fairly huge compared with camera. If you are using a digicam in spray conditions these cases are the best there is, and they keep getting cheaper.. Hope this helps

I have used this on a few trips and it is great fun and easy to use. It works well for snorkelling. One problem is that it is so buoyant you can only float on the surface and point it downwards. It is very difficult to push it say 1 metre underwater. And as you are floating you get buffeted by waves so it is difficult to keep the camera steady. Also, the view through the viewfinder is limited with a mask so you virtually have to point and shoot.
So don't expect "professional" results. At GBP 200 RRP this is not worthwhile but get it at these discouinted prices and it offers a new range to your videocam. And if you are a snorkeller this can be a reasonable way of recording your holiday
One advantage of its buoyancy is you can use it as a floatation aid so you can rest while snorkelling or need to adjust your mask.
