OK purchase...but not brilliant........2004-09-26
I bought this mouse because of the a> reasonable price b> rechargeable batteries c> for use when travelling around with my laptop.
Firstly, the 'multi-language' user guide is not written in very good English, often referring to the same part on the mouse by 2 different terms. The battery is light weight (one of the main reason for my purchase as I didn't want to add more weight to my already straining briefcase) but you have to fit it yourself, not difficult, but you also have to fit the v. small connectors yourself which is tricky and not referenced in the user guide. The receiver didn't work very well in my USB hub, any slight movement, and it would turn off. It worked better using the extension provided and plugged direct in the USB port on the laptop.
There is a sequence of pressing the receiver button, then using a pen tip to press the connect button on the underside of the mouse to make the connection and get it working - this doesn't always work the first time. You must also charge the batteries for at least 8 hrs before use. It does arrive with some charge in the batteries, but as it loses the charge, the mouse gets very jerky. There is a helpful 'low battery feature' - the scroll button lights up. Don't do what I did - didn't fully charge it, used the mouse during a senior management presentation; the mouse went to sleep, wouldn't wake up and I lost the presentation output and could only get it back by swapping to my corded Targus mini mouse. Really embarrassing!
The surface control can be quite scratchy - but when fully charged, it's not bad. Another battery saving feature is that the mouse goes to sleep when not used for approx. 5 mins, just shake it or press the buttons to wake it up.
The helpdesk is not terribly reliable. Before I got mine working, I sent an e-mail off to their support and am still waiting for a response, despite the promised 48hr response time.
Not the most stylish of mice, but small and comfortable enough to use. The battery lasts about 8hrs so for everyday use, you'd have to recharge using the charge cable, which pretty much turns it into a corded mouse!
Overall, not bad, but didn't get off to the most promising start.
