Small, fast, excellent print quality and network ready.......2007-02-08

Having used a Brother printer for years, I fancied a new one which could be used on a home network without the need for an attached PC to be powered up. This seemed to fit the bill. Am mightily impressed with the print quality which is superb, the speed of printing, and the faculties. For example, the printer driver enables 2-in-1 printing so 2 sheets of A4 can be printed side by side, as well as manual duplex, enabling printing on both sides of the paper. Manual duplex is a breeze once sussed out. As a teacher I find this is invaluable for printing A level resources. For KS3 2-in-1 printing is too small in my opinion, but the duplex is useful. Printer can also do 1 in 2x2 or 1 in 3x3 which enables an A4 worksheet to be enlarged for putting on a wall. Printer can print envelopes as well.

The printer gets heavy use - I print out all the stuff I need for school at home now saving myself the hassle of photocopier queues on a morning.

The toner save mode extends the life of the toner with very little impact on the quality of text - although pictures do look a little washed out in this mode.

The printer has a small footprint too.

Set up was dead easy - I just used the defaults for printer driver. Needs a cat5 cable to connect to a router (my router doesn't have a USB connector). PCs at home, both wired and wireless, print seamlessly.

There are other facilities too - it is possible to log into the printer's built in web server to check on status etc. The printer can even send emails when various error conditions are met - these are all configurable.

All in all an excellent, very capable and reliable printer.

Bought this printer because of its Network ability.
Wired it directly in to my Belkin Network ADSL/Router with a network cable. Refreshed the router. Loaded the drivers on my PC and followed the instructions... 10 mins up and running! Doddle!
All the Wireless PC in my home , have 3, all now can print to it directly.

Plus it powers down nicely so no need to turn off. Wakes as soon as a job is sent to it.

Needs a new Toner every 2500 sheet and a drum at 12000.

All in all Strongly Recommend this item.
