It does actually work sometimes!.......2007-12-31

Ok, it really does have all the faults previously mentioned but I've been using it successfully to share a keyboard, screen and mouse between a PC and Mac, for the past couple of months.

I think where it falls down is in terms of usability. My first Belkin Soho was bricked because of a firmware update. Credit to Belkin because they replaced it, but this time I got them to do the update at their end. You shouldn't have to do this, but since then my Belkin Soho has worked fine.

I've also managed to squeeze in two USB cables despite the power cord getting in the way - I forced in the one closest to the power cord and it works. I've had to since the specially designated keyboard usb port doesn't seem to work. I've also managed to get the cover on but, as has been mentioned, it's a tight squeeze.

Overall then, I've given this a relatively high score of three stars because, despite its faults (and they are legion), it has worked for me faultlessly and it does actually work properly if you have the right firmware installed (but you shouldn't have to get the manufacturer to install the update for you, so it loses two stars for this).

I agree with the other reviews, this is useless piece of junk. I have just about managed to squeeze all the cables in, but I'm not using the two extra USB sockets just the keyboard and mouse, and neither am I using the audio. It would not work with my Logitech wireless keyboard and 90% of the time does not connect the keyboard to the computer on port 1 if the laptop I have on port 2 isn't connected and turned on, even then it's 50:50.

I've also noticed the dropping of characters when typing fast, although with my typing this isn't too big a problem!

This item has several major issues:
1) It simply does not work. I am a very experienced IT Consultant and yet spent five hours attempting to get this device to act as a KVM switch without success. In my 12 year career I have never come across an item as ill conceived as this one.
2) The UK power adapter fouls one of the USB sockets.
3) The cable management cover doesn't fit when the cables are in place.
4) The firmware update utility doesn't work.
5) Belkin's website is totally inadequate in terms of support.

Don't even think about buying this item even if you are paid to take it away.

I got this product to run a PC and a Mac, not even got to the point of getting an second computer attatched. If you type fast enough (i.e press a key twice) it'll lose key presses (about 1 in 3).

The fit of the cables within the cable management cover is really tight. Also the firmware utility that you can download from the website does not work.

All in all I recommend getting a different make of KVM and not getting this one. I'm about to return it, it really does not even deserve a rating of just one star.

a disappointing effort.......2006-04-18

The power connector fouls the USB socket. Far too little space has been allowed for the cabling. The supplied cover will never fit when all the cables are installed.
It makes an annoying high-pitched beeping, the reasons for which are not mentioned in the handbook.
And to cap it all it did not work. Port 1 would connect to the console but not port two.
Also wireless keyboards and mice only have ONE USB connector. The box has two (one mouse and one kbd) No instruction was given as to which one should be used for the single USB logitec plug.
