Energy efficient but not perfect!.......2008-01-10

This is an energy efficient light. The light is reasonably warm for a fluorescent light and gives a reasonably dispersed light (i.e. not a concentrated spot). Note that it's not equivalent to a halogen 50W, probably more like a 20W. It does run very cool and rarely gets too hot to touch so ideal for places where heat build-up from a traditional halogen bulb would be a problem.

Issues:

Despite being a GU10 fitting it's about 6mm longer than a standard GU10 Halogen bulb. This means that it sticks out of most standard fittings. This severly restricts the places that you can use it without it looking pretty awful.

The other issue (not necessarily a problem) is that it takes a long time to warm up. The light is very dim when first turned on and does take a full 2 minutes to reach full light output. This means that it's not good for places where lights are turned on and off regularly. It is, however, fine for locations where it's going to be left on for a period of hours.

I would suggest that you should decide whether you can cope with the additional length before fitting. Otherwise you will need to change the fittings to ones that will accept the addtitional length.
