4 out of 5 stars FAST ACTION.......2007-10-24

After watching this film, i checked my VW Golf handbook to check my BHP, Torque and 0-60mph performance. To my horror, the car would still have been in second gear when the stars of this film had finished the race and were enjoying a cold drink.

The film follows an undercover cop trying to track and capture a group of road hijackers, responsible for several hijacking crimes on lorries. The film is sprinkled with high speed races and sees some fantastic driving skill.

Deffinate one to watch

4 out of 5 stars "I am an EFF BEE EYE agent!" No, wait, that's a different film.......2007-09-18

To track down a gang of naughty truck hijackers, undercover copper Paul Walker infiltrates the illegal street racing scene, where everyone has a garish, nitrous-fuelled car with fancy green lights strapped to its undercarriage and all the girls have taut, exposed midriffs. Trouble is, Walker begins to question his loyalties as he becomes seduced by the furious lifestyle - developing a man-crush on charismatic racer Vin Diesel, and a regular crush on Diesel's pretty sister - none of which is helping him catch the crooks. Long story short, The Fast And The Furious is Point Break with cars instead of surfboards.

Automotive technology suffuses every molecule of this film, stuffed as it is with so many references to cars and car-related paraphernalia that you could probably make a pretty good drinking game for it - a sip for every car race (there's a bunch), a chug for each cheesy use of car imagery in the dialogue ("He's got nitrous oxide for blood and a gas tank for a brain!"), and maybe knock back a shot every time they find a new way to work motoring accessories into the plot (like the guy beaten with a ¾ inch torque wrench, or the other one tortured with 40 weight motor oil). Still, this attention to detail results in what must be car-nography for petrolheads, so if you love souped-up cars you'll love this film.

Paul Walker gives one of his better performances in TFATF, but the film is easily stolen by Vin Diesel, who's at his best here as the magnetic anti-hero who lives his life "a quarter mile at a time" (don't forget to chug for that one). In smaller roles, I also liked Matt Schulze as the thug who suspects the truth about Walker all along, and Michelle Rodriguez as Diesel's squeeze.

Despite being a pretty shameless and near beat-for-beat rip-off of Point Break, The Fast And The Furious somehow manages to emerge as a perfectly enjoyable slice of undemanding entertainment. The story's solidly told, Diesel is great, and the race scenes (nicely beefed-up with some neat special effects that let the camera float over and around and even through the speeding cars) are a lot of fun to watch. If you're a car fanatic, this one practically reeks of greased engine parts and exhaust fumes, so check it out immediately. Also, if you try the drinking game I proposed above, please drop me an e-mail and let me know how drunk you got.

4 out of 5 stars Car racing at it's best........2006-02-11

This is a good film that has spawned many others like it that arn't as good. This is the original and best.

The acting is good for alot of new actors and actresses and it has a good storyline, but the stars of the show are the cars.Brilliant racing scenes and the camera work is fantastic with a few new special camera views thrown in.
All-in-all it's a good film that has a story to it as well as fast cars.

5 out of 5 stars The film that spawned a shed-load of games.......2005-09-20

This is one of those films that gets panned by the critics but draw me to watch them over and over. Some find it a bit shallow and very "Hollywood". If however you are into the cruising/modifying/street racing scene you will love this.

The basic premise is this:
A few articulated lorries carrying high-value goods have been knocked off by the same gang, driving black honda civic's with green neon lights underneath. The FBI suspect that the culprits are involved in the street-racing scene and have a name in mind.

Brian O'Connor (Paul Walker) is chosen to become a street racer and mingle with Dominic Torreto's (Vin Diesel) gang to find out who is behind the hijackings.

Brian begins to discover the true depth and integrity to Dominic's gang, leaving him to question who's side he should be on.

OK, its no Thespian play, the script won't win any awards, but that really isn't the point. Its a banquet of big stunts, petrol and testosterone. Plenty of fast cars and fast driving. One of my favourites.

Amazon.co.uk Review

A guilty pleasure with excess horsepower, The Fast and the Furious efficiently combines time-honoured male fantasies (hot cars, hot women, hot action) into a vacuous plot of crystalline purity. It's trash, but it's fun trash, in which a hotshot Los Angeles cop named Brian (Paul Walker) infiltrates a gang of street racers suspected of fencing stolen goods from hijacked trucks. The gang leader is Dom (Vin Diesel), ex-con and reigning king of the street racers, who lives for those 10 seconds of freedom when his high-performance "rice rocket" (a highly modified Asian import) hurtles toward another quarter-mile victory. Racing is street theatre for a lawless youth subculture, and Dom is a star behind the wheel--charismatic, dangerous and protective toward his sister Mia (Jordana Brewster), who's attracted to Brian as the newest member of Dom's car-crazy team.

Director Rob Cohen treats this like Roman tragedy for MTV junkies, pushing every scene to adrenaline-pumping extremes; when his camera isn't caressing a spectrum of nitrous oxide-enhanced dream machines, it's ogling countless slim 'n' sexy race babes. The undercover-cop scenario cheaply borrows the split-loyalty theme perfected in Donnie Brasco; a rival Asian gang adds mystery and menace; and digital trickery is cleverly employed to explore the fuel-injected innards of the day-glo racecars. It's about as substantial as a perfume ad, but just as alluring, and for heavy-metal maniacs of any age, Diesel's super-blown 69 Charger proves that Detroit muscle never goes out of style. --Jeff Shannon, Amazon.com

On the DVD: Appropriately bulging with macho extra features, this disc is introduced with a stirring lack of irony by a Public Service Announcement exhorting viewers not to take proceedings too seriously! The meat of the many special features are found in deconstructions of several special effects sequences, with multiple camera-angle views and a breakdown of the process by which composite shots are achieved from separate plates. There are also eight deleted or extended scenes with optional directorial commentary. The main feature commentary is surprisingly in-depth and absorbing, as Rob Cohen talks about every aspect of his up-to-date "Western with rice rockets". Other features include music videos (one of which has its lyrics censored), a standard 18-minute "making-of" featurette and, fascinatingly, a short five-minute peek at the editing process as the director and film editor strive to cut a violent scene and thereby guarantee that all-important PG-13 rating (so that young kids who can't drive will be able to watch the movie and learn about speed, the director says with a straight face). And with a choice of explosive Dolby 5.1 or DTS you, and your long-suffering neighbours, will feel like you're right in the midst of the action. --Mark Walker

5 out of 5 stars A GOOD FILM !!!!!.......2007-06-03

If you like this film so much go and buy it IT'S WELL GOOD!!!The cars are brilliant Paul Walkers first car movie great acting too!!!

1 out of 5 stars unoriginal hateful rubbish .......2007-01-09

watch point break then watch this, i wouldnt mind so much that they completely stole its plot but they should have admitted it, its not just the basic story they stole but the whole structure, all they did was replace surfboards with cars, and leave out gary buseys character, which also angers me, he stole the show in point break, seriously if your gona rip off a film like that why leave out the best character, are they stupid as well as unoriginal? also where was the cool foot chase?

seriously i cant see how anyone with a bit of intelligence could possibly like this film. Watch point break instead, it may not be the greatest movie ever but its superior to this dung in every way.

i cant believe sequels got made to this very bad film, does not deserve the one star i was forced to give it. utterly loathsome

and, tell me again why they just had to rob the the trucks while they were still moving?

hate this movie with a passion

5 out of 5 stars SO FAST ITS FURIOUS.......2005-10-05

5 out of 5 stars The Fast And The Furious.......2005-02-09

The Fast And The Furious is possibly the best car movie ever made it has everything a carlover could want chases, crashes, mods and some nice ladeez to, and u can never go wrong with a combination of amazing cars and nice looking ladeez(Michelle Rodriguez, Jordanna Brewster). Besides everyone has dreamt of having an amazing modded car and an even more amazing girl.......but back to the point this movie is spectacular and the tricked out edition DVD has some awesome extras including a sneaky look at the second movie.
I am telling you Buy This DVD. It Rocks.

5 out of 5 stars DVD - The Fast And The Furious.......2004-01-05

Vin Diesel, Paul Walker and a rounded of cast of racers, girls and cops - the perfect action movie cocktail. When "The Fast And The Furious" made its debut in 2001 it made every adrenaline junkie wanting high speeds, stunts and action wish come true. Straight from the beginning we see the muscle-grinding action begin.

The fim opens on Paul Walker testing out his Mitsubishi Eclipse on a race track in the sun. Unfortunatley the test doesn't go too well and Brian's temper is spinning, along with his car.

From then on the film evolves with plot twists and moving revelations. Even though action films are rarely seen at award shows they are still extremeley well made and have some of the best cast and team behind them like "The Fast And The Furious".

5 out of 5 stars WOW.......2007-03-04

Ok, so the film isnt the most intellectual (I had to look up the spelling of that so I guess I'm not either) but its great ride. However the quality of this film is stunning. Its my first HD-DVD and it looks fantastic, the only image quality I've ever seen that gets near was when I saw Finding Nemo at the Odeon in Leister Square when it was being shown digitally.

Worth buying just to show off your new system. Just need to convince my partner we need a new 46 inch 1080p TV in the front room and I'll be sorted.

4 out of 5 stars Fast and furiously good on HD DVD!.......2007-02-17

Fast and the Furious for me is one of those really enjoyable Saturday night movies, where you can site in and watch fast cars and fast paced action, its almost like watching a video game, although it is basically like watching a remake of Point Break (surfing movie with Keanu Reeves and Patrick Swayze) except with cars. Vin Diesel is pretty good in it too, and while the acting isn't always the greatest its not bad from the rest of the cast. I was hoping when I got this HD DVD disc that it would have a really good transfer as the original DVD version looked great with incredible colours and very sharp vivid detail. I'm happy to say that this version is even better as the colorus really stand out and the detail is pretty stunning, especially the scenes at Race Wars in the desert as colours are so intense and the image just stands out.

Also this is one of the most reasonably priced HD DVDs out at the moment (£14.99) and it also features the same range of extras as the original DVD so if you want to choose a film to show off the HD format, I'd recommend this one.

5 out of 5 stars Fast and Furious.......2003-08-04

This is an amazing film, I would say my favourite not just because i love cars but also because of the story the film has to it. It is one of a kind and very hard to beat in every sense possible because of the quality of cars in it as well as the actors that fit very well in the film especially Vin DIesel. I think that this film will not be forgotten very easily by people especially car loving people. Although you don't have to be a car freak to enjoy it, because as i said before it has a very good story to it.

I surely recommend this film to anyone and any age oobviously over 15 years. Have fun watching it!!!!!!!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Try boosting this car film.......2003-08-02

The fast and the furious. The best car film of recent years. You want action, this is for you. This film is for all you out there who like to see just what people will do for a bit of fun, excitement and a bit of money. With speeds of more than 100 miles an hour at times. If you like cars, then watch this film!

4 out of 5 stars Oh Yes.......2003-07-20

This is absolutely the type of film which makes you want to run out and buy a hundred thousand pounds worth of equipment to turn your Fiat Uno into a fire-breathing mustang of 600bhp with neon underlights and jazzy decal on the side. Not only that, but it seems to have invented its own genre - there is no comparison to other films featuring car chases, youth culture, rap music and skimpily dressed young women.

As with the sequel, the first thing which you have to admit is that a plot would have been a terrible thing to waste on this film. There is one, and it isn't quite as thready as you might believe, but I can personally guarantee that you'll hardly notice. The film throbs with high-octane special effects and intensity of emotion from the young cast, incorporating ground-breaking vehicle stunts and an unashamedly glamourised peek into the racing 'sub-culture'. Diesel's type-casting as the muscle pays off, Jordana Brewster and Michelle Rodriguez give highly adequate performances, and although Paul Walker wrestles with some appalling dialogue to the point of infuriation ('But if I win, I take your money *and* your respect') and compares badly to Diesel's slick deliveries of even the most cringe-inducing line - it must be said that the man can do a good love scene, and an even better punch-up. Testosterone and sweat is rife, and all the sets reflect this atmosphere particularly well.

To anybody with an inkling to a purchase - it is absolutely worth your time, and when you fit that final six foot spoiler to the back of your Fiesta you may begin to realise the sheer power of this film to sweep you away.

5 out of 5 stars Essential for your collection.......2003-06-28

You should have already seen this film so you'll know how good it is. For those of you who havn't then it is about illegal street racing and more. The story actually works quite well. The music rocks the cast rocks (Vin is the man) and it all comes together to make this a cinema classic.

The features are great. Especially the 2F2F prelude and the feature where a car guy and a model spend bucket loads on an Evo 8 from scratch and turn it into an awsome machine. Get This.

The Fast And The Furious is possibly the best car movie ever made it has everything a carlover could want chases, crashes, mods and some nice ladeez to, and u can never go wrong with a combination of amazing cars and nice looking ladeez(Michelle Rodriguez, Jordanna Brewster). Besides everyone has dreamt of having an amazing modded car and an even more amazing girl.......but back to the point this movie is spectacular and the tricked out edition DVD has some awesome extras including a sneaky look at the second movie.
