Evocative, Moving......Memorable........2007-11-14

This film was shown on the TV one night in England many years ago and I have never forgotten it. Sometimes I meet other people who saw it and for a few moments we are united in excitement about a wonderful, powerful and terribly moving film which so few people know about. I have yet to meet anyone, men or women, who didn't think it was somehow in a class of its own.

Jane Fonda and Vanessa Redgrave are both exceptionally talented actresses and together they were dynamite. The story revolves around an enduring friendship. Redgrave plays a passionately political woman who bravely supported the left-wing in Hitler's Germany and Fonda her American friend who cannot rescue her from the Nazi assassination squads but eventually returns to a war-ravaged Europe to try to find her friend's child. She searches and searches ... but I won't spoil it for you. Just lets say that this is all about love and loyalty and has a remarkably convincing backdrop of Europe slipping into the grip of a brutal and totalitarion regime from which there was no escape for millions. The filming in Europe, with its wet, cobbled streets, created an unforgettable atmosphere.

So I cried. Only three other films have done that to me and one was "Bambi", which should tell you just how affecting this is!

This film is probably very attractive to Europeans. Region 2 DVD please?

The Eve of War.......2007-04-04

This movie is worth seeing for its terrific evocation of the atmosphere of a Europe falling over the precipice into war. Train journeys at night through countries whose borders will, in a few hours, be closed. Armed foreign soldiers checking papers; your breath held as they decide whether or not to let you pass. A wild blind-panic rush for safety as the Nazi machine starts to wake up...

Crimebusters are back!.......2006-02-18

Terence Hill & Bud Spencer (Crimebusters) are back in another comedy cop film. More story based then 'crimebusters'less of the big fight scenes they are well known for even thou is does include some memorable ones. Still enjoyable movie as to help them solve a crime this time they get help from some beauiful woman. This is a must for Bud & Terence fans shows they've come a long way from the days of 'Trinty' and 'watch out were mad'.
