5 out of 5 stars My all-time favourite film.......2004-09-23

I first saw this film in the mid 80's and was instantly blown away by how good it was. Since then i have seen it countless times.
As soon as i saw the region 1 dvd for sale i bought it straight away and wondered if it was as good as i remembered? The answer to that is a big YES!!!! Infact the region 1 version is so good its like seeing a completely new film. Firstly the picture quality is stunning (or that could be down to the fact that my vhs copy has been watched so many times its almost worn out). Secondly the film contains many scenes i have never seen before as this is the uncensored version. These scenes include Kane Kosugi using nunchaku, Braden the evil ninja killing people in more gory and violent ways, and also more close up scenes of gore including the famous shuriken/eye/fountain scene.
Ok so you can see I like this film but its by no means perfect. This is due to several corny scenes and wooden acting particularly from Keith Vitali. Sho Kosugi however turns in his greatest ever on screen performance as does a very young Kane Kosugi who makes up for his lack of dialogue by producing some amazing action scenes for someone so young.
Overall i would say if you are a fan of martial arts or action films you should own this. One word of advice is if you have a multi-region player make sure you buy the region 1 version and even if you own a UK vhs copy buy it anyway because you will not be disappointed!!!!

3 out of 5 stars Revenge Of The Ninja: The Lost Classic.......2003-06-22

Ok, I'll admit it. When I was about twelve and watched "Revenge of the Ninja", I immediately cannibalised by judo suit and dressed up as a ninja....
Now when you've finished laughing, I must say that this cult 1983 classic starring martial arts/gymnast guru Sho Kosugi really is an exciting and infuential work and, probably the pinnacle of the American ninja genre.
The basic plot casts Sho Kosugi as a pleasant but naive oriental art collector who moves with his family to America to set up an art/antique shop. Simple. No problems. Well.....
As usual, things aren't what they seem, his American business associate is using Sho and his contacts to import cocaine smuggled inside statues, no doubt he's a tad upset when he realises he's been had, hook, line, sinker, bait box and comfy stool.
This is when the pace of the film steps up a gear with some great stunts from Sho who in one chase scene is hanging on to the back of a van and takes a nasty tumble to the climax of the film, the great skyscraper roof-top duel with his American partner; this scene is probably responsible for a lot of fans claiming it to be the best Ninja film ever made.
Tastefully directed by Sam Fistenberg, with some excellent fight choreography from Sho, the film is only really let down in places by the odd wooden performance and occasional sloppy editing, other wise I would have given it 4 stars. A classic non the less.

The sky's the limit for adventure! Two of history's most fabled flyboys square off in daring, acrobatic duels of death, in Von Richthofen and Brown, a high flying tale of famous battles...and infamous daredevils.Baron Manfred von Richthofen (John Philip Law),Germany's legendary Red Baron, is an aristocratic knight of the skies. But his chivalrous sense of honour doesn't mean he's merciful- some 80 pilots have lost their lives to this steel-willed ace of aces.In contrast , canadian wheat farmer,Roy Brown (Don Stroud) couldn't care less about honor. He lives, the enemy dies-in any way Brown can make it happen. And so, when these two very different men go head-to-head ina winner-take-all showdown,it's a swooping,bullet-filled confrontation that puts their skill and their courage to the ultimate test.

3 out of 5 stars CAUGHT BETWEEN HONOUR AND REVENGE, HOW FAR WILL ONE MAN GO??.......2007-08-07

Obviously, you will not like this movie if you did not like 1988's Bloodsport (though there ARE some cases where the sequel is better than the original). This review is thus addressed to those who liked Bloodsport and are wondering whether they should bother to watch Bloodsport II: The Next Kumite. My answer would be yes.

Sure, Jean-Claude Van Damme isn't here (Donald Gibb serves as the link between the two movies), but Daniel Bernhardt, as petty thief Alex Cardo who discovers the meaning of honor, makes for a likable, charismatic lead, who also bears somewhat of a resemblance with Jean-Claude.

Also interesting is the narration, told in flash-back by Alex Cardo's trainer, Master Sun (played by James Hong) to a throng of young disciples. In these moments in particular, Bloodsport II shows that it is completely aware of what kind of movie it is, that it does not aspire to be anything more, and even pokes fun at itself (see the excellent ending, for example).

In short, Bloodsport II: The Next Kumite is not as awesome as it's predecessor, but it does what it aspires to do: it gets the job done. The cinematography isn't as good here as the first time, making the fights less impressive, but they're good enough. The story and the fact that the movie changes location (from Hong Kong to Thailand), contribute to not make it a rehash of the original. The actors, from Daniel Bernhardt to Donald Gibb, passing by James Hong and Pat Morita, are just right. And just like in the first one, you may know exactly how it's going to end, but it's still a joy to watch.

5 out of 5 stars stunning.......2004-08-30

this movie is a fantastic it reaches a climax that lasts over 45 mins with some spectacular martial arts action in the underground contest

2 out of 5 stars spectacular martial arts action.......2002-01-22

bloodsport 2 is the sequel to bloodsport which starred van damme. This time it stars actor daniel bernhardt who plays alex a theif who is imprisoned for stealing an ancient sword while in prison alex is taught the deadliest martial art known as the iron hand which alex then puts to use in a fighting competion. With spectacular martial arts action this is a good action film

3 out of 5 stars Not a bad sequel.......2001-06-17

Overall, this is a good film with some excellent action but everything about the film seems to be rushed no sooner as he's gone in prison he's fighting in the kumite. Not bad though, better than the other sequels to Van Damme films, and will keep you entertained if you are bored

3 out of 5 stars Sequel left in shade by original........2000-12-09

The first thing you notice about this film is that very few people know about it. The first Bloodsport was a Van Damme classic with Jean Claude doing what he does best-fighting not acting. In this second installment we see Daniel Bernhardt taking over the main character, a master thief who is caught stealing a sword from a businessman he eventually comes face to face with. The general idea of the first is mirrored in the second with Bernhardt, after a spell in a vicious Thai prison, coming out and training up before fighting in the Kumite. This time there is no Chon Lee(Bolo Yeung) and new innovations include a women fighter who gets in a romance with Randy from the first movie. The films main saving grace is the new trick Alex(Bernhardt) learns. Called the Iron Hand it is a superpunch that can shatter things without needing to touch them, almost like something from Streetfighter. The final fight which is typically brutal and swings this way and that with plenty of twists before it comes out in the usual way. The film is a decent martial arts one but never lives up to the heights of its predecessor. Great for an all night moviefest though-little effort required at all.

Yuen biao showed his deft skills in this movie. Of course, Cynthia Rothrock gave me deep impression. By the way, Yuen biao used his original name Hsia Ling Jun as the leading actor's name. The only one disadvantage is the final boss is frail, who is Melvin Wong Gam San. This movie has two endings, the one is that Yuen biao is alive, but in the other one he is dead. As a whole, it is a nice movie that is worth to watch.
