The Quest.......2007-09-18
The CBBC show shows that the BBC can still create great kids TV the BBC seem to make a good kids show every year this is few years old now and there has been a follow up but other great new shows.
The show is about a travelling cirus and is set either in the furtrue or distant past and the Quest is they must obtain a device to prevent their home city from dying.
If you saw it you will probably understand and this DVd will certainly refesh your memory remember BBC for great kids shows.
Good Quality Pictures.......2006-09-11
I should declare my involvement in making this series upfront.
I've received a copy of this DVD set. The BBC weren't involved in its publication - that is all down to 2Entertain. It's a pity about the absence of special features - we weren't asked to supply any. There is no 5.1 mix, because the original programme was mixed in 2.0 stereo.
What I can say about these DVDs is that the picture quality is superb. The show was shot and mastered in HD, and the detail of the show's look (though downconverted to SD) is the best I've seen in Standard Definition. It's also great to see the programme in a 16:9 ration - which is how it was intended to be seen.
The region 4 version will come on 2 disks and will also feature commentaries on two episodes, a 'making of' documentary, interviews with several key creatives and a photo gallery.
Good DVD Release of New Zealand TV Series.......2006-08-30
The two disc BBC release of Maddigan's Quest is barebones but adequate. There are seven episodes on disc 1 and the final six episodes on disc 2. The menu gives you the option of selecting an episode or playing all the episodes, and that is all. There are no subtitles, secondary languages, alternate audio channels (DTS, DD 5.1) or "making of" documentaries. The picture quality is fine throughout. There is a short bumper in front of each episode from episode two on, describing in under 30 seconds what happened previously. The BBC released this DVD fast. The Australasian Region 4 version is supposed to have a release date around November 2006, with extras features, which will probably include a documentary on the filming of this New Zealand film series. Time will tell. For now, the BBC release fills the bill nicely for those who just want to see the entire series.

Very Powerful.......2007-11-05
"V for Vendetta" does not show how things could become, but is a look at how things have become in the U.S. and other countries as well. To get a better idea of what the world has become (although the politicians are trying their darnedest to keep it hidden) one only needs to watch "V for Vendetta" to pierce the veil that hides the truth from so many.
This movie shows the psychopathic people who are in control of a country and how they are abusing their power, as all psychopaths do. And although I am not endorsing the way that the revenge of "V" was handled, there is a sense of encouragement that one has while watching the movie.
I think that "V for Vendetta" is a very important movie in its own right. It brings to light the true face behind the mask of those who are in power right now in real life. It is a movie that needs to be seen by those who think that their governments have their best interests at heart. To show them that 'Big Brother' is already here.
Informative & Inspiring.......2007-11-03
This is truly a fantastic film from the Wachowski brothers, and everybody must get a copy and watch it. It conveys a stark and terrifying message that is eerily similar to the changes in society and government we're seeing today; though that is one of the main themes: are we truly seeing them, and if so, what are we going to do about it? As the saying goes, all that is necessary for evil to triumph is for good men to do nothing. As another reviewer said, we need to all find that part of ourselves that is exemplified by "V" and to stop living in a dream world of denial and complacency because these are the very attributes that have been the fertiliser - as well as the innocent lives lost - for totalitarian repressive regimes.
Informative and inspiring, and should go hand in hand with psychological literature by authors such as Martha Stout, Robert Hare, Andrew Lobaczewski, etc. It can only stop when we get to the very root of the issue, and that is pathological deviance in all its dark hydra-like forms.
stunning action!.......2007-11-03
This movie takes you through a time of an oppressive government. Some of the propaganda mentioned sounds like what is going on these days. That is scary, but this movie inspires hope for those who fight for truth and freedom. The Wachowski brothers have put together another great story without disappointment!
