simple but EFFECTIVE.......2003-02-14

This surprisingly stunning movie was really just something I rented, because I had seen everything else. I needed to watch a good movie, and not the commercial junk with overated computer graphics. Then I saw this one. They only had one copy of this movie in the store, so I thought that this would have to be a low-budget movie. "Why the heck not" I said to myself, and picked it up.
I've never regreted that choice in all my life.

What struck me, was an action movie with a poetic heart. In all the excellent shooting, there is an "in between the lines" essence of the beauty of life, portrayed differently in the many characters in the movie. Good acting by some, great acting by most. Ice-T does a good job playing the "bad guy", and I'm tempted to say that this is one of Christopher Lamberts finest pieces of work.

The ending of the movie, will probably disappoint some, but look between the lines here too, and also here you'll find that everything about this movie wreaks of excellence. You'll actually probably also come to the conclusion that the movie couldn't have ended better. This one is a true classic, and I am surprised it didn't get more storm than it got on its release. Well, let me just uproar a storm, and tell you to watch this movie. Action, humour, drama, heck it's got it all, and then some. Highly recommended warm hearted action movie!

Incredibly stylish.......2001-01-18

This stylishly directed, original thriller/action movie is surpisingly tense, and constantly plays with your expectations of the characters; make no mistake, it truly is redemption that separates the wheat from the chaff.

A fast paced excuse for a blood bath.......2000-07-28

Firstly, if you are as bloodthirsty as me you will love this film. It has brilliant action sequences with good stunts and character depth to back it up. On the bad side, the tales behind the characters are very hard to understand and sometimes distract you from whats going on in the film.

Basicly, the story is about a deathmach which takes place in a prison involving all of Americas worst criminals. To give you an idea of what this deathmach is like I'll tell you that the first action scene inside the prison involves buckets fill of guns, daggers, baseball bats and ammo are thrown into a large room and the competitors are told to kill each other. O yes I forgot to mention that escape is futile and the last three alive win a lot of money.

I wont spoil anymore of the film for you but I have to say that Christiphor Lambert puts in an amazing performance which helps to place an extra but of shock in the films ending.

intelligent, moving true story thats beautifully told .......2007-12-12

I wasnt sure what to expect from the film but the i'm certainly glad i took the time to watch it.
Even though i do not speak french and had to read the sub titles, the story had me gripped, several friends who came around to watch it with me who are also not ones for subtitles enjoyed it so much they went out to buy their own copies.
It follows the true story of a lebanese boy sold by his uncle to islamic extremists to be trained as a boy soldier, it is in turns beautifull and horrifying at the same time, and you really start to care for the two main boy actors who the story unravels around.
Make no mistake lads this is not a chick flick, there is plenty of violence to sink your teeth into, but it is not unrelistic or gratuitous, it is definately one of those films that you'll remember long after watching it.

Little known classic.......2006-04-14

This is loosely based on the making of The African Queen. Eastwood plays John Wilson (Huston) a cantankerous man who is more interested in big game hunting than shooting the film. In my view this is Clint Eastwoods greatest acting performance. He doesn't impersonate John Huston (maybe he couldn't) but he does capture something of Hustons distinctive drawl. To be clear on this if you want to watch Clint Eastwood being Clint Eastwood as in Dirty Harry, Good the bad and the Ugly etc (which I love as well) this may not be for you.
John Huston endearing trait of sticking up for the down trodden. In one example he picks a fight with the white Hotel owner for abusing a black waiter, in another he castigates a woman for being racist. This latter scene is wonderfully done, with Wilson/Huston turning what was going to be lovely hand drawing of the lady concerned into Hitler.
This film wasn't a great success - it should have been. The ending is very good, although whether its true or not I don't know. John Wilson says in the film "Hunting Elephants isn't a crime, it's bigger than that, it's a sin". Well he does pay for his sin...

An unusual facet of Eastwood's talent.......2001-04-28

'White Hunter, Black Heart' has nothing to do with other Eastwood's films, as 'Dirty Harry' or even 'Unforgiven'. If the way of filming has indeed the mark of the talended director, the way Eastwood is acting here is rather unusual... By playing the nearly-demented John Huston, Eastwood shows another facet of is talents of actor. So is he not only capable of playing the enigmatic character of an unknown stranger (e.g.,'Pale Rider'), but Clint Eastwood is a complete actor, capable of developping a full range of emotions, from anger to sadness or (maybe for the first time?) hilarous laughting. 'White Hunter...' is a verry arresting spectacle - buy it!!!
