Sooo good.......2006-10-17
Used to watch this all the time when I was a kid - bought it recently and after 5 years of not watching, it was like revisiting an old friend. This is the kind of movie that makes you feel happy for days - essential.

This has to be the best film i've ever seen. I used to rent it out every week when i was younger and probably watched it every day. now i've just bought me and my best mate a copy each so we can watch it all over again. so sad, funny and just a real heartwarmer. will make you want to be a child again.

I remember there was a small video rental shop near to where I lived. It closed down after a short while, but while it was there, I went in every other week to pay my pound and renew my rental of the film "Now and Then". I watched it every other day and NEVER got bored of it. It's a classic, totally adorable and heartwarming. BUY IT NOW!! :)
Heart-warming classic!.......2005-11-20
I only recently bought this film and watched it, after hearing about it from other people. All I can say is...I am so glad I did! It's definitely one to watch with your best girlfriends - it will make you laugh, cry, giggle and smile. It has such a straightfoward storyline yet it will tug at your heartstrings and bring back hundreds of your own childhood memories. It'll remind of you the good things in life and make you want to restore friendships of your own. Restore your faith in human nature...this is a brilliant film.
Like Stand by Me...but better.......2005-07-04
Often hailed as the girl version of Stand by Me, I have to say it lives up to it and more, and not just because I am a girl!Its the kind of film that makes you feel all warm and tingly inside.The four young friends are fantastic in the 'then' part of the film and even though I didn't grow up in suburban America with white picket fences and bikes with baskets on the front, there is so much to relate to. The scene where Teeny does a quiz on the girls from Cosmo always makes me chuckle.If you haven't seen this film, there's no excuse so grab some of your girly friends round and some chocolate and get stuck into this fantastic, funny and heartwarming classic.

Somthing That The Whole Family Can Enjoy!.......2005-01-03
Although i am a little older now, i still very much enjoy re-watching many of the films that i loved in my childhood, and the Treasure Seekers was just one of them. The characters are so interesting and the whole film is just fun to watch.
Five motherless children go out into their garden every day digging for treasure so that they can help their inventor dad pay off his debt and thus restore the family honour. They also many other things such as selling poems to the newspaper etc, which don't turn out as planned and make the whole situation worse. However with the help of a kind lady doctor the father manages to sell his fridge invention and pay of the debt, just before the balifs arrive.
All the cast are very good in their roles; Camilla Power as Dora the eldest of the five, Felicity Jones as Alice, Kristopher Milnes as Oswald, Ben Simpson as Noel the aspiring poet, Patsy Bryne as the rather sweet Eliza, Nicholas Farrell as the father of the five children who is desperately trying to sell his invention to pay off the debt, and Ian Richardson as the very nasty loan shark, Haig, to name but a few.
Overall, 'The Treasure Seekers' is a wonderful childrens film based on the classic novel by E. Nesbit (author of The Railway Children), that will entertain them for the two hours that it is on and i'm sure that they will want to watch it a few times more afterwards. Some nice extras on the DVD too. Highly recommended if you have young children but somthing that the whole family can enjoy.

Danny DeVito's adaptation of the Roald Dahl book for children is mostly just fine, helped along quite a bit by the charming performance of Mara Wilson (Mrs Doubtfire) as the eponymous young Matilda, a brilliant girl neglected by her stupid, self-involved parents (DeVito and Rhea Perlman). Ignored at home, Matilda escapes into a world of reading, exercising her mind so much she develops telekinetic powers. Good thing, too: sent off to a school headed by a cruel principal, Matilda needs all the help she can get. DeVito takes a highly stylized approach that is sometimes reminiscent of Barry Sonnenfeld (director of Get Shorty, a DeVito production), and his judgement is not the best in some matters, such as letting the comic-scary sequences involving the principal go on too long. But much of the film is delightful and funny.--Tom Keogh

A fantastic adventure!.......2006-09-08
Another fantastic performance from Robin Williams, and the rest of the cast make excellent appearances too. The plot is strong, the effects are marvellous still, and the directing still leaves you feeling quite emotional at the end. There are some fantastic moments that are clever and indeed well done, but its the strong plot for me that makes the movie. A true classic film for the family!

When Alan (Robin Williams) finds a strange boardgame buried in concrete he invites a friend to play, but after rolling the dice for the second time Alan is sent into the game and never seen again...Some years later two kids discover the boardgame in the house where Alan disappeared and begin to play. The dice is rolled and Alan appears some 30 years older, they must now complete the game in order to send back a hunter who has come through with him. With stampeding rhinos, mischevious monkeys,15ft aligators and violent weather conditions to contend with Jumanji is thoroughly entertaining and a must have fun for all the family adventure...
Robin Williams At His Best.......2003-12-21
Just about every film you will ever watch (with a few acceptions) will have been influenced by another film, and may seem very similar to that film in more ways than one. However, Jumanji is a complete acception to this rule. It is a completely original and fantstic idea for a film, which has become unsuprisingly succesful.
When Alan Parish finds an old game in a building site and begins playing it with Sarah, a girl on his street, he dissappears and she is chased out of the house by a swarm of bats. Twenty Six years later, Judy and Peter find it in the attic of there new house, (the old Parish house) and they also begin to play. They release Alan, along with a hoard of unimaginable nightmares, their only hope being to finish the game, if they live that long!
The special effects in this movie, in there day were excelent, however they do look a little bit dated now, especially the lion. It still works well though. The acting is also pretty ok, especially from Robin Williams, who in my mind is on top form here.
Although this film was promoted as a family movie, some parts are pretty intense and scary, especially the beginning where the previous two children are burying the game. Therefore you may want to watch it before you show it to very young children. Having said this, it really is an excelent film and most of the family can enjoy the solid entertainment.
If you buy this film then i guarentee that you will be gripping your seat,and will be thinking of nothing else until the end. Well worth buying.
The Perfect Adventure Film for Older Kids and Adults.......2003-03-22
When Alan Parrish finds an old board game in a construction site, he has no clue what awaits him. When he and friend Sarah Whittle start to play, he is pulled into the game and she is chased from the house by bats. Fast-forward 26 years to when brother and sister Peter and Judy Shepherd start to play. They free a now grown Alan from the game, but in the process release monkeys, mosquitoes, and a lion. They realize they must finish the game to make everything return to normal. Reuniting with the adult Sarah, they attempt to stay alive long enough to do just that.
This movie is a fantastic fantasy/action movie. It starts out well, and the suspense continues to build until the climax. At the same time, it's got some great one-liners and funny scenes to break the tension. The entire cast does well with the material, including all the special effects. The special effects show their age today and are a bit more stylized then realistic, but they serve the movie well.
A word of warning to parents. This is a very intense movie. Even though it was marketed as a family movie, many small kids will be frightened by it. Keeping that in mind, you might want to preview it before you show it to them.
Jumanji is an action movie that gets it right. It has the perfect mix of character and story supported by special effects. Pick it up today and be prepared to leave your world behind.
Another good film starring Robin Williams.......2002-02-22
This is a great film starring funnyman Robin Williams. Throughout the film there are great special effects and many hilarious scenes (but you would expect that with Robin Williams starring in it). The plot is very clever and you will be gripped to this film until the very end. A worthwhile purchase!
