Amazon.co.uk Review
Disney sets a record for bringing out a direct-to-video sequel after the initial film. Stitch: The Movie arrives only a year after the enjoyable Lilo & Stitch and reunites the title character (otherwise known as Experiment 626) with his earth-bound family in the warm Hawaiian sun. The story has a nice set-up: since Stitch is Experiment 626, where are the first 625 invented by Dr Jumba Jookiba? Odds are the island paradise will soon be spaceport central for many more aliens. As with other made-for-video Disney titles, the animation is not as complex or rich. This hurts this sequel even more since the original film had such a unique, pastel beauty. Unfortunately, the other elements of the film are just as flat. Even though most of the original voice cast returns, the entire production lacks the same spirit and charm, and the story's theme is recycled (get ready for more "Ohana means family"). On the plus side, the film starts with an Elvis Presley song ("Slicin' Sand") and is only 64 minutes long. The movie sets up the Disney TV series The Adventures of Lilo & Stitch. --Doug ThomasCustomer Reviews:
Prelude to the TV series.......2005-11-22
The only thing that really lets it down is the animation. Boring backgrounds, with blocky main characters who sometimes have thick black lines around them, it is not as beautiful looking as it should have been.
But all the original characters are present and correct in all their good-natured humour. Stitch is his usual manic, bad self, who you just can't help but love. And the cross-dressing Pleakley seems quite out of place in a Disney film, but all the better for it!!
The storyline is fairly dull. Stitch has to capture another experiment, but it sets up the TV series well. The ending is also quite action packed and exciting.
However, the morals that it tries and force down our throats are the same morals that were seen in the original film, and so seem a litte redundant here. Even so, the focus on family and friendship is always welcome, and only the cold hearted will not feel the tug on their heart strings.
It would have been nice to have a making of documentary to know a little more about the background of the film, but this disc's extras only include some games that will keep kids happy, and a music video.
Still, for a straight to DVD film, it's not too shabby, enjoyable at times, and its downright cute.
Missing Something.......2005-08-28
Since I doubt I will ever get a glimpse of the television series I have been left rather disappointed. Watched in conjunction with the series I believe this feature makes a brilliant introduction, but as a stand-alone film it really isn't able to hold its own.
Doesn't compare........2003-12-13
However this second film doesn't compare. It is obviously a very rushed project. The amimation is sloppy and the music that was a huge focus in 1 was nearly non-existant in 2. The plot, also, wasn't developed and in 1hr the film speeds by.
As with many of the Disney sequels, care of preserving a good and well loved movie doesn't seem to be an issue but rather the promise of money from gullible fans. It almost seems to tarnish the films reputation. But as long as Disney thinks they can get away with it, they will continue to do so.
Don't stop now!.......2003-10-03
