Mr Genius DVD.......2007-10-23
I introduced my 2 3/4 year-old daughter to a few of the books recently and they quickly became firm favourites. Living in Norway, I'm always keen to introduce her to a bit of British culture and the memory of Arthur Lowe's narration alone was irresistible.
The DVD was no disappointment. To me or her. Yes, there are "quality" issues, by today's standards, but it doesn't seem to be a problem for her. The only problem is which episode to watch. Highly, highly recommended, at least, by this household.

Ahhh the good old days. I remember this from when I was a youngster, so consequently bought it as a Christmas present for my 4 y/o daughter last year. She still watches it and that was nearly a year ago.
Well worth every penny.
great content - rubbish sound and picture.......2006-09-01
just to reiterate what one reviewer wrote below - the content of this DVD is great, but the picture quality, and particularly the sound, is very variable, with some episodes really below par. A shame. Let's have a remaster!
Beautiful journey down memory lane.......2004-12-14
Now in my mid-20s, my enduring fondness for the Mr Men characters that I so loved as a boy made this an essential purchase and even if the quality of the animation is crude by modern standards, the wonderful, ageless stories continue to delight.
All 28 episodes of the original TV series are here, featuring the stories of many of the best-loved characters, most notably Messrs Happy, Bump, Forgetful, Greedy, Sneeze, Snow, Nosey and Tickle, but each story stands up delightfully in its own right.
Arthur Lowe (aka Captain Maiwairing from Dad's Army) acts as narrator and it's hard to imagine anyone else in the world doing a better job. Whether voicing the words of the characters themselves, or just progressing the stories, he brings warmth and humour to each story.
As I mentioned before, the animation is far from spectacular, but with stories this good it doesn't matter a jot. It would have been nice to see all of Hargreaves' classic book characters included (the likes of Messrs Busy, Slow, Rush and several more are absent) and occasionally the sound quality, on my DVD at least, was less than perfect, but this is still a very small price to pay for such enjoyable ditties.
Even if your children are unfamiliar with the Mr Men, these stories should still delight them. One of the best tenners you can spend!
Mr Men DVD review.......2004-02-18
I first saw these in 1974 on a black & white telly and loved them as a kid. They are even better in colour!
You can watch all the episodes one after another or pick your favourites from the menu. This is probably the best kids TV series ever made and at a tenner even Mr Mean probably considers it a bargain!
Kids will watch it over and over and over again...so you may want to buy it on VHS and hope the tape wears out before you go insane.
Don't worry about the sound quality I found it ok.
So go on buy it for the kids (allegedly) and enjoy it yourself. You'd have to be Mr Silly not to!
