Super duper!.......2008-01-02
As good as you remembered it if not better! No need for bells or whistles in those days, just beautifully told stories and great characters. Hartley Hare is just out of this world and just side splittingly funny. Hope some more volumes will be produced, its almost too good for kids!
Nice DVD, big boy!.......2007-11-12
I loved this so much as a kid in the 70s that I used to play truant to watch it. So what, Hartley probably would have as well.
Thirty years later and I often throw a sickie just to stay home and watch it again.
Okay, that last bit was a lie.
I didn't think the kids of today would 'get it', but the earlier reviews suggest they most certainly do.
Anyway, this DVD is a tremendous piece of nostalgia.
Whether you have kids or not, buy it.
Excellent!
Glorious!.......2007-01-04
I bought Pipkins 1 and 2, for my five year old son, as a Christmas present having only a vague (yet persistent) memory of watching it when I was a child. I was slightly worried that his 'palate' may have been tainted by the usual soul-less, merchandise linked guff he consumes. Not only was he utterly rapt by Pipkins, I noticed something odd. He was laughing quite a lot. I put it on at a party with the result that there were four kids (of different ages) grouped around the telly laughing. They postponed house wrecking and watched of their own volition.
So much of children's media entertainment quickly becomes background but I suspect Pipkins will have lasting power, unlike me, to get children to sit still and pay attention!
The adorably camp and irascible Hartly is still my favourite. There are things there to make adults reminisce like going to the shops and seeing that a tin of pet food is 6p and Hartly's song about sweeties extolling the virtues of the Sherbet Fountain.
Everything about these dvds is a joy.
Engaging and educational.......2006-09-10
As I write this, my 3 kids (3,5 and 6) are completely engaged in this wonderful programme. True, it's not perfectly edited or as polished as some of today's programmes, but how refreshing in today's "PC" world to meet again imperfect characters like the sometimes-irate and obsessive Hartley Hare and the ravenously hungry Pig. With a Steptoe and Son-style set, it's great all-round viewing for kids. Adults can reminisce about how "simple things were back then" - and they were! Enjoy.
The Best 70's Kids's Show.......2006-03-23
I bought this for my 6 year old ( and for me of course) and it brought the memories flooding back.
My daughter loves Hartley and especially the Cowboy episode which has her in stiches.
re-live your childhood and see the happy faces on your own kids when they discover this gem!

Takes Anime to a new level.......2002-07-01
The anime series was taken to a whole new level with "Dragonball Z" but Gundam Wing grabbed me differently, its a more mature affair, the charachters are more interesting and involving and there are strong political themes throughout. There are 49 episodes in the series, this DVD containing episodes 6-10 which are 5 of the most important episodes of the entire saga as they set the scene heavily for the main charachters, the Gundam pilots and Relena Peacecraft.
One thing that will mesmorise you about this show is the amazing battles between the mobile suits, when the Gundams enter battle and the overpowering battle theme music begins to play the blood begins pumping as you know that carnage is about to ensue.
Its a rollercoaster ride that will have you at the edge of your seat and its something that i would highly reccomend to anyone who likes manga or anime, its also good as a program to begin watching if u are new to the whole anime concept.
Gundam2 DVD review.......2002-05-23
this is basically the same as the first in the way of features. the end credits are now karaoked and there is a section with a few pictures. there is no point buying this for the features but it is worth it for the episodes.
definatly worth getting for the episodes which feature a turning point for the gundams... not to be missed!
with all the features other dvds have it may seem that it lacks something but it's a series DVD with only the episodes and a little icing.
worth getting for the episodes and to complete a colection but if you want a dvd full of extras then this isn't it.
Gundam Wing-Operation 2.......2002-05-23
As with disc one, the cover art is the same as the US. Duo and Deathscythe on the front, and stats about both on the back. This is much better then disc one, which had stats on Heero and..Sandrock . The menu is also the same as disc one, just with different scenes and music playing. In terms of episodes, you get 6-10, available in English, French, Japanese with French subs or Japanese with English subs. In extras, you get:
A gallery of Gundam Wing video covers - Info on Heero - Karaoke 'Just Love' - The short previews of each ep which are normally at the end of eps. Like the last disk, the gallery is nice. The info on Heero has some problems, such as 'Japanese' being spelt 'japanese' and the section about which MS he has piloted only mentioning Gundams. The Karaoke is nice, but it has the credits running over them. Considering this was not the case on disc one, it's annoying and seems lazy. All in all, this disc does feel better then the first disc. You get some good episodes and some nice extras. A must buy for Gundam Wing fans

Fantastic series, and gotta love detective shows!.......2007-06-12
I love this series. I have to say that at the beginning just in case anyone thinks I may be biased. Because I am. A lot.
I love this series. Rather than being an average detective style show, which seems to have been getting really popular in Japan over the last few years, 'Heat Guy J' is a wonderfully animated story, the characters are given depth and histories which effect their points of view and outlook on life, and the music is just fantastic!
Essentially, the story is the battle of the Special Unit, as seen through the eyes of laid-back mamber Daisuke Aurora, against the Leonelli family, a mafia-style syndicate ran by the notorius and utterly deranged Clair Leonelli. The special Unit's trump card is 'Heat Guy' J, the only government sanctioned android allowed in the city.
There's plenty of eye-candy as well as the spectacular effects-personally, I'm quite attached to Clair, but Daisuke is cute, his brother (and boss) is a typical shoujo-style pretty boy, J is ruggedly handsome, and the Special Unit's supervisor of sorts, Milchan is the cutest girl in pink I've ever seen! None of the characters are added in purely for looks though, each one is pivotal to the story.
Even stories which don't appear to have any bearing on the main story arc, the dreaded 'fillers', are excellent, building up the characters histories and personalities and adding background to the main story arc by actually being part of it (if I say much more I'll spoil how good it is and wreck the story for anyone who hasn't seen it).
The cgi is blended really well, but not overused-at times, you don't even know it's there. And there's a heady mix of rock, jazz and blues so even listening to it is a joy.
All in all, despite the series tendancy to re-use the occasional theme (both musical and episodic), this is a cracking detective series, set in a future not so distant from our time and even with the futuristic feel and high-octane fights and chases, it still has that good old feel of Columbo or Starsky & Hutch!
