Classic Garfield.......2006-10-25
Three classic episodes on one DVD.... really great value for money. All the sentiments from the reviewer below, I can echo whole heartedly!
Another great DVD must have for the kids collection, beats the movies hands down!
Best of Garfield.......2004-11-15
Forget the movie, forget the mediocre "Garfield and Friends."
This is the original cartoon, and wow do you get a lot for your buck
with this DVD. 3 classic episodes. "Here comes Garfield" is alone
enough reason to buy this DVD.
A mixture of comedy, a pinch of drama, and a notch of singalong music
makes Garfield shine. This is the TRUE Garfield format. I just
hope they release the entire series of classic Garfield cartoons from
that era.
Amazon.co.uk Review
Every now and then, the CGI effects in Garfield: The Movie are less than perfect--which makes you realize of how astonishingly seamless the rest of the effects are. When Garfield's owner Jon (Breckin Meyer) agrees to take in a homeless dog so as to flirt with a sexy veterinarian (Jennifer Love Hewitt), Garfield does his best to oust the dog from the house. But when a greedy television performer (Stephen Tobolowsky) kidnaps the mutt for his own nefarious purposes, Garfield sets out on a rescue mission. Garfield is a terrible movie, yet there's something weirdly compelling in its awfulness. Bill Murray, who voices the fat cat, has mastered a comic style that wallows fondly in ridiculousness. Perhaps, seduced by the siren call of Murray's voice, the audience can only marvel at the sublime junk of our culture. --Bret Fetzer

Garfield the Movie (Single Disc Edition) DVD (Region 2) Review.......2007-06-29
Garfield is a character we've all grown up with and encountered at some point in our lives. I guess it's hard for people to change their opinions of the old Garfield to the newly rendered one. Of course as time goes by, a character has to adapt to the new generation. Whilst the acting is somewhat to be desired, critics must remember this is a children's film intended to be watched by a family unit.
In my opinion, it was one of the best films of the year. You can't help but laugh at the quirky feline who delves into your heart and funny bone with a passion! I've always looked at my own cat, Pudsey, as a real-life Garfiled and now this theory has been met with CGI! Bill Murray portrays Garfield's voice wonderfully! And Breckin Meyer plays a well-interpreted Jon (though I'm sure a number would disagree). Jennifer Love Hewitt adds that much needed sparkle to the film that increases the plot's allure to the viewer. Having a CGI character next to real-life animals didn't bother me in the slightest. What we have is a great character for the kids of today - this is a Garfield our kids can grow up with, just as we grew up with the lovable cartoon!
I found the film a little hard to get into at the beginning, but give it a chance, and you will be enthralled at the never-ending antics of Garfield and the world he lives in. You will be easily able to empathise with him (probably a lot more than the other characters) and in the end you won't want the film to end. If there's any hype about the film it's that it's too short at 76 minutes approximately.
On this single disc edition, there are a number of special features included. The film itself is in widescreen, and you can watch with an audio commentary by the directors. There's also a chance to watch at multi-angles which is good if you're technically that way inclined to said feature. There are also some hilarious deleted scenes which I'm sorry to see did not make the final cut, including some very funny dance sequences. A featurette on the making of Garfield's character, an inside look to the upcoming film 'Robots' and a short film about Scrat from 'Ice Age' entitled 'Gone Nutty' (very very funny believe me) make this particular DVD an extremely worthwhile buy. Audiences of all audiences will not be disappointed. Plus it's got quite a groovy soundtrack to fit the mood of the film. Enjoy the lovable cat we all grew up with in his new environmnet and form! He'll make you want to come back for more and more and it's one of the best feelings in this world.
Hilarious.......2006-12-25
This is a superb comedy!! Garfield is utterly awesome/funny in this movie! As it is hard to really explain, I reccomend that anyone watches this as it's a fun, comedy, great for all the family to see!
A Great Film.......2006-04-23
Many people who have reviwed ths film have been very harsh..Firstly this is a family film with a basic plot. The plot evolves round garfield having to save to life of fellow pet "Odie" from a life of torture. The special effects are good, they may not rival to those used in Lord of the Rings, Star Wars or even King Kong but this is a few years old now and didnt have such a huge budget to work with. This film is great for kids, and for the whole family. There is more to a film then what it looks like graphicly. Give it a chance.
I highly recommend this.
Cats, you just can't have too much of them!.......2006-03-01
I really enjoyed this, but then again, I am a serious cat lover! Garfield is so like my old cat: lazy, overweight, adorable, and rather selfish! I laughed all through this film, not because it was funny (which it was aswell) but as it was so true (or at lest "Garfield" was) to the cats and attitudes towards/from them in my family.
Even if you don't like cats (which I think is wrong. Not liking cats. Tssk!) you can goo oo and ahh at the dog (dogs, pathetic!)
That is the only problem with this film. One of the main charicters is a dog! Honestly, why put a dog in a film thats ment to be starring a cat!
This is really good though, and I suppose that nothings perfect (back to dogs)!
Disappointing.......2006-02-15
Unfortunately this is one of those films where all the good bits are in the trailer and there is nothing else to be gained by watching the film the whole way through. Don't get me wrong, there were funny bits but just not enough of them. I expected the plot to be a little more classier than it was - the bad guy being an evil kidnapping dog trainer, and the human characters in the film were so cheesy it is unbelievable. Yeah, yeah, I know it's a kid's film but it's just not in the same league as some of the other recent kid's movies. My advice: buy Shrek/Shrek 2 instead.
