Fabulous in every way.......2007-11-09
Marie Antoinette has long been a fascination of mine, especially after Antonia Fraser's book which shows the young french monarch in a completely different light. After watching Sofia Coppola's fun and colourful chick flick, i decided to order this one in from the states and check it out. What a wise decision it was! Norma Shearer is utterly fantastic, she captures the childlike spirit at the beginning of the film, the woman who becomes very fond of money and gambling when her life at court is at best mediocre, the loving mother that emerges from this carefree youth and towards the end of the film, the tortured soul that falls victim to the mobs of the french revoloution. The acting is superb all the way from the bumbling Louis XVI to the insufferable Madame DuBarry. The only real downpoint of the film is that it takes a few liberties with historical facts, but in all fairness it crams a hell of a lot of the events that took place in her lifetime in to the 2 and a half hours that the film lasts. A prime example is the affair of the necklace, which takes all of ten minutes, if even that, in this movie, but actually brought much hatred to Marie Antoinette. I think Coppola should have involved more stuff like that in her 2006 film. So if you are a fan of the modern movie, interested in the queen herself, a fan of Norma Shearer or just love a good old movie that has big palaces and humungus dresses then give Marie Antoinette a go, its a real old fashioned gem!

Just lovely.......2008-02-05
This DVD is a rare gem in childrens entertainment. Percy is a kind, caring 'gardener' who lives in his little shed (very well equiped for a small space) with all his animal 'friends' around. All lovely episodes with good stories teaching children about caring for the environment and other people/animals. Would thoroughly recommend as 'family viewing'. We all love it in our house.

This is nice old-fashioned inoffensive cartoon entertainment about a park keeper and his adventures with the animals. All lovely stuff nicely narrated by the wonderful jim Broadbent
Wonderful Fun!.......2005-05-31
Perfect childrens viewing. Lots of easy to watch episodes. The stories are fun and inventive. Current favorites are the one about the hedgehog who can't hold a balloon with out popping it and the one about the rabbit who is freightened of the dark. All the stories are beautifully told and very entertaining. You'll love them.

This is a great DVD for kids - it teaches about the different animals and keeps very true to the books - super for a cold and wet afternoon - we just adore it, such a relief from the usual WD world!!
