drawbacks.......2006-03-24
In addition to all the positive things about this DVD I would just also like to mention two drawbacks:
1.) If you don't like the Walt Disney singing parades, this is a no for I'm afraid it contains quite a few
2.) The stories do NOT come to a natural and obvious end but rather one leads on to the other so you do have the debate as to whether the child may not watch a little more ...and just another little more ...
Tiggers really are wonderful things!!!.......2006-03-16
I bought this for my 2 year old as I've just started to read to him Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day which he loves. All I can do is just add to the positive comments already made. This is just wonderful and beautiful to watch and it is so nice to see something of such QUALITY which you can all watch together as a family. It just knocked our socks off.
Sorry just have to add TI gg ERRRR!!

BLISS
Still reticent about letting my small sone watch too much TV, I was *so* relieved when I put this movie on. The bliss of being whicked immediately back to my own childhood, the beaming pleasure of my small son as he watched the familiar, lovable, gorgeous little characters.
The hilarity when Pooh falls out of the honey tree!
This is the best of the Pooh movies. The animation is done in the style of the original EH Sheppard drawings, and the stories follow those in the book (apart from a very brief appearance of annoying new beaver character, who falls down a hole anyway).
The film is shown on a book, and the pages turn between scenes with the charaters sometimes walking/hopping over to the next page. It's gorgeous. It's adorable.
IT'S ALL ADORABLE. It's childhood in a plastic box. It's superb. Well done Disney. Well done A A Milne. Well done E H Sheppard. Well done everyone. And well done me for buying it!
Silly Old Bear.......2005-11-02
Before his death, Walt Disney had started his staff on a series of shorts starring A. A. Milne's creation Winnie the Pooh. Because he knew American audiences weren't that familiar with the character yet, he decides that a series of short features would be best, followed by a movie combining them together. This is that movie. Originally released in 1977, it combines the three shorts that had been previously released, "Winnie the Pooh and the Honey Tree," "Winnie the Pooh and the Blustery Day," and "Winnie the Pooh and Tigger, Too" with a couple new transitions to make the stories flow together.
The story is set in the Hundred Acre Wood where Winnie the Pooh, a bear with very little brain, lives along with his friends. There's Christopher Robin, a young boy, wise Owl, gloomy Eeyore, Rabbit, small and easily frightened Piglet, Kanga and her son Roo, and bouncy Tigger. No matter what they face, they face it together, at least in the end.
The first set of stories revolves around Pooh's love of honey. When he runs out, he tries to get some from bees and then visits Rabbit where he gets stuck after eating too much.
A natural disaster visits the Hundred Acre woods when a blustery day is followed by a flood. While facing danger, Pooh also learns about Heffalumps and Woozles who may be after his honey.
Finally, Tigger's bouncing gets the best of Rabbit and he tries to debounce Tigger. Undeterred, Tigger gets himself and Roo stuck in a tree.
These cartoons are sweet and innocent. They easily bring back memories of childhood and simpler times. There is gentle humor and the simple lessons aren't done in a heavy-handed manner.
The style of the animation is fairly unique in the Disney canon. It's pencil line heavy. Even though the artists have made it their own, it still reminds the view of Ernest Shepherds charming "decorations" from the books.
These stories are very true to their source material. The new character Gopher is introduced, but as he's not in the book, he's not even in the second half. Probably the most curious choice was the use of a book. The pages turn as the story progresses and we move in on page illustrations to see what happens next. I'll admit it took me quite some time to get used to the idea, but I do see the charm in it now.
The main audience for this movie has always been kids, and the 25th anniversary release reflects that. Most of the features are kid friendly, with games, a sing along song, and a story time segment. Adults will enjoy the behind the scenes featurette. You can choose to watch the movie with pop up facts running. Most of them are ordinary, but there are a few fun trivia items included. Also included is the short "A Day for Eeyore." It was originally released in 1981 and features a few new voices because of cast deaths. It's a fun feature with a couple of my favorite stories from the books, but is a little disconcerting to watch right after seeing the film. As to the film itself, the picture is sharp and the sound is great. It's presented in full frame. I have no proof, but I suspect that was the original aspect ration.
This is a nice film for young kids. Adults may not enjoy it as much as some kid's films, but if they watch with an open mind, it will release their inner child.
must have.......2005-09-05
My daughters mid 2 years and although toys and posters of Pooh & Co have held general appeal (no mean feat as she's not easily patient) - I've never been inclined to go for all the modern Pooh-ness thats around, it's just not us. So I saw this on Amazon and pondered, and thought I'd give it a go.
Now Florrie imble has been relegated to the bottom of the toy bin and Pooh bear has to sleep in the madams bed at night and this dvd has to go on daily at some point.
It's suitable for bedtimes if times too difficult for a storey, it's quiet and peaceful and in short chunks although described as a movie-theres 3 stories to choose from plus a 4th if you include the bonus eyore one. lots of old style sing along songs, rescues, friendship and love without being sickly. Raucus laughter when the gopher is it? (so I'm told) falls down the hole, height of sophistication in commedy for a 2.3 yr old.
If you really dont get along with it(cant think why not!) then you can pass it on to another small persons househld as Pooh Bear is a classic and as such, both a rest from modern overload - soft and familiar and loved naturally by little people everywhere.

Good for numbers, not for letters.......2007-01-08
The 123's part of this is excellent. My son has watched it time and time again and now knows all his numbers from 1 - 9. There are songs and a storyline to keep him interested and he still enjoys it now.
The ABCs bit is not good. It only deals with a handful of letters - and capital letters at that - and rhyming words which unless the child understands what rhymes are and can already read is a bit pointless. We have watched it a few times, but it's not really worth it.
abc section is poorly conceived; dvd controls are irksome.......2006-10-31
This DVD takes a while to start because Disney programmed it to prevent you from skipping over some of the preview material. This is a pet peeve of mine, particularly on a children's DVD which, ideally, will be viewed over and over again.
The 123 section is ok, but the ABC video is poorly conceived. As other reviewers mention, the first part of the ABC cartoon focuses on rhymes. It does this not by focusing solely on the sound of the rhymes but instead shows you the words on several pages of Christopher Robin's notebook. In order for a child to appreciate this section, he or she really ought to know how to read already. Late, late, late in the video, the characters finally do a cursory review a few letters--R, P, O, T, E, and K. That's it. The first time we watched the video, my little girl turned to me and asked, a bit indignantly, "When come alphabet?!?" Of course she gets a certain pleasure just out of watching the Pooh characters on the screen, but pedagogically speaking, I think the Leapfrog LETTER FACTORY video, or something from Sesame Street (alas, regional code 1, usually), is much, much better for a child starting to learn the ABCs. Sesame Street's LEARNING TO COUNT or 123 COUNT WITH ME are also better for counting. Not just my opinion, but my daughter's, too.
Definitely Worth It!.......2006-05-11
I purchased this DVD for my 30 month old who loves learning numbers and letters, and he loves it. I always watch all the DVD's we buy for him more than once, as I am interested in what and how he is learning, and I can tell you this is a great purchase.
Listed below are some of the many reasons why I recommend this:
a) It has great songs along with our kids' favorite friends Pooh and the gang.
b) It attracts the child's attention by adding a plot, for example 123's shows how everyone is going to a picnic and Roo and Pooh have to learn how to count in order to bring 10 items to the picnic.
c) It shows the little ones that learning is a process and not something that happens overnight, very encouraging.
d) It teaches them that there is an order to numbers, which you have to follow.
e) The letters in ABC's follows a specific order to help them learn the letters more easily. Please note however if you are looking for something to teach your children the alphabet you will need more than this DVD as this focuses only on the letters that the characters names start from and it is meant to attract the little ones attention to letters and the alphabet, more as an intro. But still very nicely done.
f) 123's teaches them that numbers are used to count and that you can count same and different objects using them.
g) I love the counting song. Whenever we have the DVD on I catch myself singing it out loud or in my head.
I think I have said enough. I believe you get the picture. All I have to add in closing is, VERY GOOD VALUE FOR THE MONEY!
Fantastic!.......2005-12-19
Winnie the Pooh ABC's and 123's is absolutely fantastic. It's a great way to introduce toddlers to letters and numbers without being too educational. Wonderful songs and storyline. The only thing I can fault it on is that it takes a good minute to start the DVD once you have bypassed all the introduction clips and adverts. Apart from that the actual content is brilliant. How about that - Fantastic, Great, Wonderful and Brilliant all used in the space of one small review.

Brilliant film!.......2008-01-16
Really cute movie, my children (3 and 7) both sit quietly (unusually!) throughout this movie.
a very gentle, sweet film. a must!
Winnie The Pooh - Heffalump Movie.......2006-07-16
Wonderful DVD with all the favourite characters with the addition of'Lumpy' the heffalump. My 2 year old adores it.
Love the Heffalump!.......2006-02-20
Oh wow, this is the best! This is a *great* movie - it's adorable from start to finish. It has the lovable Pooh gang, all playing true to character, and the elusive "Heffalumps" from the book are brought into film reality in classic Disney fashion.
The gang hunt for "scary" Heffalumps in the woods, but Roo is not allowed to join in as he is too young. So Roo goes it alone and finds the baby heffalump, Lumpy, who has the cutest voice you ever heard. They make friends and show the rest of the gang that Heffalumps are not to be feared. The strong anti-racist message doesn't distract from the adorable, hilarious friendship that forms between Roo and Lumpy (especially when they play in Rabbit's precious garden!) And all to the best Carly Simon soundtrack. Go Carly.
Watch your children beam with pleasure all the way through the film, and then when the toddlers want to watch it over and over (and over) again, you can chill out to the great music.
This is a fab film.
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT.......2006-02-13
I have always been a fan of the Winnie the Pooh stories and films, and as soon as I saw how cute Lumpy the heffalump was, I HAD to buy this DVD. I wasn't dissapointed. The film was great, and very touching. Lumpy's voice was great, as another reviewer said, his giggle was great. I am 18, and I loved this, as did my mother, and my little siter. Great film for all the family, with a lovely message at the end.
Not a classic but good enough.......2005-10-26
This Disney spin on the Winnie the Pooh stories was quite good. Obviously, as always when Disney does AA Milne, it is a very sugared American version. However, the movie was fine, not too heavy handed in its moral message and the little boy who did the voice of the Heffalump was fab, especially his giggle.

winnie the pooh- love and friendship.......2004-12-05
A thoroughly enjoyable set of cartoons featuring all the usual friends. A great buy especially for little ones. If they love any of the characters, then they'll love this. The best episode 'stripes', Tigger loses his most beloved things! Teaches the child that it's what's on the inside that counts, apperances aren't everything! A heart warming set of stories. Highly recommendable.
Amazon.co.uk Review
Friendship and compassion provide a memorable Easter celebration in Springtime with Roo. Roo's excitement on Easter morning is boundless, but when he, Winnie-the-Pooh, Piglet, Tigger, and Eeyore arrive at Rabbit's door for the big Easter egg hunt, Rabbit seems to have forgotten Easter and proclaims it "Spring Cleaning Day" instead. A dispirited Pooh and his gang quickly rally and decide to surprise Rabbit by putting up his Easter decorations. Rabbit is not at all happy with their efforts and furiously declares that Easter is cancelled. It turns out that everyone involved has been selfish in some degree by failing to consider the feelings and desires of one another. Can a little mutual understanding and caring salvage Easter for Roo, Rabbit, and the rest of the gang? --Tami Horiuchi

Winnie the pooh and springtime with roo.......2005-05-03
Winnie The Pooh and Springtime with Roo
was a very delightful dvd I enjoyed watching
it and so did my 3 year old neice.
She smiled alot of the way though the film.
Would make a great present for someone, especially a child.
Winnie the Pooh Fans will love it!.......2005-03-20
Just about to buy our second copy as our 2.5 yr old son has finally broke the first copy through constantly trying to put it on, or running round the house with it thrusting it it at the nearest adult. Great animation, great characters, if your kids love Winnie the Pooh they will love this.
Perhaps should only have 4.5 stars as it's loses out only marginally to 'Tigger the Movie' and 'Piglets Big Movie' due to their absolutley stunning (Japanese) animations and slightly better stories.
My children LOVE this film.......2005-01-17
My children (18 months and 3.5 years) absolutely adore this film. From an adult perspective it is not a perfect story, but few children's films are.
Winnie The Pooh - Springtime With Roo.......2004-12-06
Disney at its worst - A Mediocre story (based on 'A Christmas Carol' set at Easter') and American vocabulary. However this DVD's worst sin is its absolutely appalling production quality. My copy showed terrible rainbow effect throughout the film. No other DVD I have played has ever shown this. I am reluctant to allow my children to watch this film again. DON'T BUY

fun for everyone!!.......2003-11-26
with the opening of the first story as captivating as this you'll be guaranteed 58 mins of peace (thats if you can get the wonderfull catchy song out of your head!) this dvd has four stories about all our favourite characters from the hundred acre wood: rabbit marks the spot, friend in deed, the piglet who would be king and donkey for a day. as always there is a lesson to be learnt in each story, so what better than to let your child enjoy watching pooh and friends and learn a little at the same time, truly inspirational!!

Poor story.......2005-01-01
Not a very exciting story - it didn't even hold the attention of my three year old who loves anything Winne the Pooh
a very merry pooh year........2003-12-09
This is a must for all lovers of pooh and friends. I loved pooh bear as a child and my kids are catching on after watching this dvd. Its a good old fashioned tale of how friendship is more valuable that the materialsim sometimes associated with this time of year. There are 2 interactive games included which should keep younger kids busy for an hour or two as well, plus lots of extra bits and bobs. It really is good value for money as its the kind of thing kids will watch again and again.
Share the Christmas spirit with your kids..........2003-11-05
My 3 years old son received the tape as an early Christmas present from his nan. No way to keep it away from him until then. It became his favourite Winnie the Pooh film and we cannot stop him from watching it again and again and again... Even my 9 month old son has taken to it and it's a pleasure to watch him
'dancing' in rythm to the songs. I even surprise myself by joining in while cleaning the house. We are having great fun and
Christmas has definitively entered our house.
If you are not yourself a fan of Winnie the Pooh, you won't be able not to love it and it is surely one of the best Christmas present for all, kids and family which will be treasured over the years to come.
A VERY MERRY POOH YEAR TO ALL!!!
