totally unsuitable for young kids.......2007-07-07
Bare-bones DVD of a Wonderful film.......2005-02-01
The DVD Itself -
The menus on the DVD are nice in that as the DVD starts up, it allows you to select a prefered language which the rest of the DVD's menus will then be presented in. The menus are static, and contain imagery from the film.
The movie is presented in 1.85:1 Non-anamorphic widescreen. That's kind of a shame since the image detail itself is fairly soft, and the added boost in resolution might have helped. The print is a little grainy, but the beautiful scenery in the movie still comes through looking very good - probably the best it has ever looked on any home video format, but there's still room for improvement.
I don't have a great sound system - just the speakers on the TV - but it sounded fine. The music is as catchy as ever. The DVD has 5.1 Dolby Digital tracks in both English and Spanish. There are subtitles for English, Spanish, Swedish, Norweigen, Danish, and Finnish.
There are no extras at all.
It's an interesting film - it almost plays by the rules of a silent film - which is fun, because since there's very little dialogue in the film, it has to tell the story visually. Then there's the themes running through the film - such as the moral obligation you have to others when you take responsibility of them. It's a pretty solid children's film.
