    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The Adventures of Tintin Vol 1.......2004-02-15

Great DVD. Just read the other reviews of this DVD and would like to say that my copy of this DVD is perfectly synchronised. Cannot fault the DVD in quality and the Tintin tales and characters are timeless. Superb stories on this volume but there are five in the series and they are all great. My kids love them all and they are so much more entertaining than the modern "shoot 'em up" type cartoons.

5 out of 5 stars Lovely Stuff !!! Tintin Volume 1.......2004-01-05

An excellent dvd with four of TinTin's adventures, including that of to the moon and cigars of the pharoah. Very true to Herge's original comics and extremely entertaining for people of all ages. Highly recommended.

4 out of 5 stars Why They Cut It on DVD??.......2003-12-06

Not like the bad transformations which were done before, this is a faithful transformation for Tintin from the original books to TV. Darwing and colours are similar to what Herege did years ago.

Still there are two negative points. The first, the episodes included in these DVDs were cut shorter than when they were originally shown on TV. The second, they are not placed on the DVDs according to the adventures sequential order.

    4 out of 5 stars "Blistering Barnacles".......2003-09-05

Yay tintin! If you like Tintin, even a teeny bit..this'll make you backflip into a bed of roses. (I did)
'Cigars of the pharoh' is awesome. Possibly the best Tintin story, because it's just so huge, sprawling and complex. Funnily enough though I experienced no problems with the voice synchronization at all. So maybe the previous reviewer had a faulty disc, or Anchor Bay resolved the problem. The other episodes are heavy too. And it's long... its very long. Which is great!!

The animation is a little poor, the dialogue borders onto cheesy and some events are dramaticaly OTT. But that's just Tintin, so its nothing alarming. It's well worth the asking price, and didnt get 5 stars because ,as already stated, there are no extras. Which is a big shame. But otherwise, it's fantastic.

2 out of 5 stars Tintin totally out of sync!.......2003-04-08

Normally I would have given this DVD 4 stars but Anchor Bay did a sloppy job of synchronising the voices with the film ("Cigars of the Pharaoh" & "The Blue Lotus" almost completely unwatchable being 2 to 3 seconds off - in other words, the mouths move and the voices come later!).

This is unfortunate because otherwise the artwork and attention to detail are quite good as are the choice of voices (once you get past the Canadian lisp - all fans of Southpark will know what I mean - "It's a-boot time, Captain!").

This is because the series was a co-production between France and Canada. The upside is that the Herge foundation oversaw the original series when it was produced for television and the stories tend to stick pretty close to the original books.

"Destination Moon" & "Explorers on the Moon" are very well done and in sync. The sound is good as is the picture quality. Fans of the original books will be pleased.

As I said, "The Adventures of Tintin Vol.1" would have recieved 4 stars if it had been in sync. This and its lack of any extras stop it from getting a 5 (which is a shame because there are so many possibilities - several books written about both Tintin's creator Herge and several more on his source material alone).
