An enjoyable watch but...........2007-08-21
An enjoyable watch but not entirely true to the book. I thought it had aged quite well and Robin Ellis was well cast as Ross Poldark. If you enjoyed the DVD, try the book as well and spot the differences which are quite significant.
Perfect Family Viewing!!!.......2007-03-28
I was really surprised to see that there was only one review for Poldark, so I thought that I had better write one to let everybody know that this is a fantastic series.
My family remember watching this the first time round in the 1970s. And they loved watching it again. I'm not old enough to remember this first time round but it has become a firm favourite with me too.
It's all about a man called Poldark who returns to 18th century Cornwall to discover the love of his life has married someone else and his house and tin mines are gone to ruin. People are against him, they try and betray him, and then he meets another woman who ... but look, I don't want to spoil this for you. Treat yourself - it's so good!
More than a TV Classic.......2005-11-19
The "Poldark" TV series truly brings the wonderful novels of Winston Graham alive. The evocation of Cornwall in the late eighteenth century is outstanding, a sense of place, time and social interraction woven into a fine plot, set against a stunning coastal background, and made real by magnificent casting. One could not imagine how the immortal characters from the books could have been better cast. Highly recommended to anyone who loves good yarns, Cornwall, or better yet, both.
Amazon.co.uk Review
The world's most famous boy wizard dives straight into a darker and more thrilling magical adventure in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets. It's practically the same set-up--something evil's afoot at Hogwarts; Harry and his pals must put it right--but fans of the books won't be disappointed. Director Chris Columbus, whose artistic licence is necessarily limited by the demands of adapting JK Rowling's phenomenally popular novel, does a spectacular job rendering Rowling's imaginary world: the production design and costumes are fascinating in their own right; such is the impressive attention to detail.
Daniel Radcliffe gives a more assured performance here as Harry, though he's not quite strong enough to carry the film without the aid of an excellent ensemble cast of experienced adults, notably a twinkly-eyed Kenneth Branagh. Of course, most viewers will already know what's going to happen as far as the story is concerned, so for them the pleasure in watching The Chamber of Secrets lies in the visualisation of Rowling's magical creations and the verve brought to the action sequences. It's fantastic fun for kids and a good excuse to regress back to childhood for the rest of us. --Laura Bushell
On the DVD: Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets's first disc offers the film in all its fine widescreen (2.35:1) and surround-sound glory--it's a shame they didn't think of adding a commentary.
The second disc's special features are sparse compared to last year's release, most notably the games, which are simpler and dull in comparison to The Philosopher's Stone. Gilderoy Lockhart's classroom offers nothing magical, and the interviews with teachers and students offer only snippets of the actors' thoughts on their characters. Don't get over excited about the "Build a Scene" feature as, unfortunately, this is not a miracle of modern DVD technology, but a simple featurette. The real gem on the disc is a 16-minute interview with JK Rowling and Steve Kloves about the transfer from book to screen. --Nikki Disney

Magic for all muggles.......2007-08-12
It's Harry's second year at Hogwarts and Voldermort hasn't given up on trying to kill off our hero, Harry Potter and rise to power again. This year he's enlisting the help of a giant snake which puts a strain on Harry's friendships as he's the only one who can hear what it's about to do next.
This marks the second successful transformation from page to screen for the Harry Potter series. A new adventure, better acting and some sterling performances from some of the best vintage, british acting talents make this another great film for the family friendly shelf.
Despite Warnings, Harry Returns to Hogwarts.......2007-06-26
All that is keeping Harry Potter (Daniel Radcliffe) going through the summer is the thought of returning to school. Once again, his relatives are treating him poorly. And now that he knows he's a wizard, Hogwarts is the only place he feels at home.
But he almost doesn't make it back. First an elf appears and warns him to stay away. Then the entrance to the train platform is sealed to him.
Things quickly turn serious once he does show up at Hogwarts. Harry keeps hearing voices in the walls that no one else can hear. And then there is the warning written on the wall in blood. What is the chamber of secrets? Why can only Harry hear the voices? Are the students safe?
As with the first movie, this one brings Harry's world to life beautifully. And once again, the movie sticks very closely to the book. Since I liked this book better then the first one, I like this movie better, too. The cast from the first movie returns and hits all the right notes with their characters. Joining the cast this time is Kenneth Branagh as the new Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher, and he's a riot in the comic relief role. Unfortunately, this is Richard Harris' last performance as Dumbledore. I loved his grandfatherly take on the character.
Over the course of this movie, Harry faces a family of giant spiders and a giant serpent. These scenes are a little scary and could frighten small children. If your kids scare easily, you might want to view the film first.
Fans of the books will be delighted with this film. It perfectly captures the book on which it is based.
An improvement.......2007-06-04
Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets is the second book and movie of what is to be a seven part series. It is, like its immediate predecessor, directed by Chris Columbus and uses most of the same cast and locations as The Philosopher's Stone. The similarities don't end there though because the plot of the movie is not that far removed from the first and many of the set pieces seem to occur in the same order and in very similar fashion. As it is though the Chamber of Secrets is stronger and more enjoyable, managing to spice up its formula nicely.
Harry Potter is due to start his second year at Hogwarts, having successfully seen off a version of Lord Voldemort at the end of his first year, when he is encouraged not to go back by a house elf named Dobby. He ignores the advice and his second year is punctuated by him hearing voices, classmates being petrified by an unknown force, and a new Defence Against the Dark Arts teacher who is more (or possibly less) than he seems. An element of mystery allows Harry and his friends to act like the Famous Five while they try and figure out just what is responsible for the petrifications. The overall story arc that will run through the rest of the books and films begin in earnest here and some key sub-plots as well. In particular the "pure-bloods" against the "mud-bloods", a nice way to start showing kids how ugly racism is, starts here.
As with the first movie this has a stellar cast, although a criticism is that many great actors like Maggie Smith and Alan Rickman don't have much to do. Shirley Henderson as the ghostly Moaning Myrtle is excellent and Kenneth Branagh hams and camps it up to his eyeballs in a brilliant turn as Gilderoy Lockhart. The three child leads are much the same as they were in the first movie, Daniel Radcliffe is wooden, Emma Watson deeply irritating, and Rupert Grint enjoyable to watch. The effects are strong, although Dobby looks unconvincing, and the giant Basilisk at the finale looks great.
Overall the Chamber of Secrets is an improvement over the Philosopher's Stone, although its still not a great movie (that would come with number three). It is an enjoyable movie though that is great for kids, should be bearable for their parents, and is highly watchable. Ideally I'd give this 3-and-a-half stars- its better than average but not quite 4 out of 5.
better than the first.......2007-02-02
In this second movie we find quite the same flaws and assets of the first one: direction and screenplay are rather weaker than the rest, they would have needed better editing, but they are somewhat better than in the first.
Probably because of the fact that characters and settings have already been introduced before, the movie concentrates more on the actual story which flows well to its satisfying end. Acting is superb and the quality of the filming as well as the scenes nearly breathtaking.
In this second movie too there are several variations in the plot but the spirit of the book remains untouched.
Average.......2006-03-23
Well what can I say. I was ever so dissapointed in this film. I read the story and it was amazing, this film just doesn't live up to the book. Once again, Daniel Ratcliffe is so wooden as Harry. It is getting annoying watching him. All the other actors are brilliant and are so like the characters in the book, but the one character they HAD to get right, they messed up.
The Prisoner of Azkabane is much better than this one.

Amazon.co.uk Review
OK, let's get all the disclaimers out of the way first. Despite its colourful (if crude) animation, South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut is in no way meant for kids. It is chock full of profanity that might even make Quentin Tarantino blanch and has blasphemous references to God, Satan, Saddam Hussein (who's sleeping with Satan, literally) and Canada. It's rife with scatological humour, suggestive sexual situations, political incorrectness and gleeful, rampant vulgarity. And it's probably one of the most brilliant satires ever made. The plot: flatulent Canadian gross meisters Terrance and Philip hit the big screen and the South Park quartet of third graders--Stan, Kyle, Kenny, and Cartman--begin repeating their profane one-liners ad infinitum. The parents of South Park, led by Kyle's overbearing mom, form "Mothers Against Canada", blaming their neighbours to the north for their children's corruption and taking Terrance and Philip as war prisoners. It's up to the kids then to rescue their heroes from execution, not mention a brooding Satan, who's planning to take over the world.
To give away any more of the plot would destroy the fun but this feature-length version of Trey Parker and Matt Stone's Comedy Central hit is a dead-on and hilarious send-up of pop culture. And did we mention it's a musical? From the opening production number "Mountain Town" to the cheerful anti-profanity sing-along "It's Easy, MMM Kay" to Satan's faux-Disney ballad "Up There", Parker (who wrote or cowrote all the songs) brilliantly shoots down every earnest musical from Beauty and the Beast to Les Misérables. And in advocating free speech and satirising well-meaning but misguided parental censorship groups (with a special nod to the MPAA), Bigger, Longer & Uncut hits home against adult paranoia and hypocrisy with a vengeance. And the jokes, while indeed vulgar and gross, are hysterical; we can't repeat them here, especially the lyrics to Terrance and Philip's hit song, but you'll be rolling on the floor. Don't worry, though--to paraphrase Cartman, this movie won't warp your fragile little mind unless you have something against the First Amendment. --Mark Englehart
Customer Reviews:
Still making me laugh...... Years on!!.......2008-02-13
What can I say..... this film is absolute genius!! From the opening scene, right through to the end of the film it's a non stop barrel of laughs. I was never really a fan of South Park the series, but this film is just fabulous.
If you're after a nice family movie, this isn't the one for you. But if like me you enjoy satirical humour, gross jokes and foul language this is definitely the film for you.
I dare anyone to watch this film and not laugh..... I say it's impossible!!
To all those who dislike it..........2008-01-02
I read someone's comment towards this movie after they rated it with just 1 star (this person was anonymous). It is perfectly fine to rate with as many stars as you wish, as that is what this service is for. But you cannot be hypocritical in saying you used to like South Park before this movie! I'm sorry but i do not think it is possible to like south park and then hate it after seeing the movie. The movie is as south park as the episodes but better, with a storyline that all south-park lovers have enjoyed - so, either you've clearly never liked south park. or you're saddam hussein relative!
Great Film. Must be watched to believed........2007-09-15
The first opening number you hear to this film makes you instantly suspicious. You see that it's so simple that you honestly suspect something randomly is going to happen half way through the song; but the song ends and what follows on in one of the greatest songs ever. Sung by Terrence and Phillip (Canadian actors) this song got the world record for the most swear words in one song (mainly being the F word). After this comes a film with pure hilarity, by far one of Kenny's greatest deaths and has as much gore and randomness as any other South Park episode only longer and told like a musical.
The only reason it loses one star is due to the lack od DVD extras. After playing the movie to death and wanting more out of the DVD I don't really care much for trailers of the film. And the only thing besides that is a music video for the song 'What would Brian Boitano do?' (I don't know who he is) and thats ashame because the movies great.
Well there's not much else to say besides buy it if you want to laugh yourself silly and end up humming the tunes everywhere for weeks.
P.S people who have watched the film already will react to your humming in two ways:
1. Start laughing and having a complete singalong with you for the rest of the day
2. Will be irritated at the very sight of you and start torturing you with a giant pile of chicken wings.
Best Animated Movie Ever!!.......2007-08-21
As far as i'm concerned this movie doesn't put a single foot wrong. The dialogue is as sharp as ever, the songs are near perfect and to top all this they actually had a brilliant storyline, unlike another popular cartoon show recently put on the big screen. I would rate this film among my top twenty favourite movies, the kind of thing you can come back to again and again and again.......
Superior Animated Satire.......2007-05-03
1999's movie outing for Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman has set new heights for the amount of foul content, language and offense ever to be seen in an animated motion picture. Complete with more satiric punch than many of its live-action counterparts and with more comedic quality than any counterpart either animated or not, 1999's "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut" has sickened and simultaneously made laugh millions of people since its release. Even today the comedy-musical animation remains one of the best of its kind either as a comedy or animation motion picture. It probably will offend you. It will certainly shock you. It will surely make you laugh. And it shall remain with you long after viewing.
Stan, Kyle, Kenny and Cartman get into a viewing of the R-rated canadian movie "Asses of Fire", starring their television heroes Terrance & Phillip. Consequently their fragile little minds are warped by the foul language and immature content within said movie and rubs off on them in the form of constant swearing. Enraged that their children are now foul-mouthed and unruly following the movie, the parents of South Park and indeed America wage war on all things Canada, taking T&P hostage in the process. And with the devil and his gay lover Saddam Hussein seemingly ready to escape hell and rule Earth, the children of South Park battle to save both their comedy heroes and the world itself.
As in the animated television series, the vast majority of the voice talent on hand is that of creators Trey Parker and Matt Stone. Sure, their impersonations of celebrities aren't exactly phenomenally accurate but since that's the point they can be easily forgiven. When it comes to causing laughter amongst their audience, the inspired duo comfortably do what's expected of them. Also stopping by as Chef is Isaac Hayes, perfectly cast in the role and on-form as ever.
If you don't have a sense of humour than perhaps it would be best to avoid "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut". The majority of the humour within is purposely offensive and obscene, something that will be greatly appreciated by any fan of the show or of literal satire in general. If you lack the capability to look past the shocking images at the forefront and are of the bunch of whiney codgers best reserved for British journalism, than don't watch it because you won't like what's on offer.
Ultimately "South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut" has more deep thought going on in its head than what may be immediately obvious. With pokes at american culture and bigotry amongst the masses, this is a movie that challenges the viewer both not to laugh and to actually look beyond the shocking imagery it intentionally puts up as a barrier. Thus, anyone who wishes to moan about the movie being 'sick' need shut up and stick to the aforementioned british press writings.
"South Park: Bigger, Longer & Uncut" is easily one of the best animated movies that I've ever seen. Far smarter than narrow-minded people give it credit for and far funnier than they would like to admit, this is a glorious motion picture not to be missed by fans of the show or of dry, offensive humour. Brilliance.

Poldark 2 Playback DVDS Drastically Edited.......2007-08-10
This description page doesn't state how many minutes Series 2 - Part 1 is; well, it's 340 minutes long. Part 2 is, as stated on its page, 325. That is 665 minutes for Poldark 2. My (US ntsc) videos of Series 2 runs 720 minutes long. On the back of these Playback sets it's stated that "for contractual reasons certain edits have been made." In the case of Series 2 they mean they've edited out 55 minutes. I haven't figured out how many minutes are missing (and I'm just talking about the US videos which for all I know are edited from the original broadcast on the bbc) from the Playback Series 1 sets but I think we can expect the same treatment -- basically that about an hour of the series will be missing. I am so sorry I didn't know about the edits when I bought these and that I didn't do any research on length. I made an assumption that getting PAL dvds (we don't have the Poldark series' on dvd on Region 1), made in the UK, I'd be getting at least as much footage as I had on my old videos. I regret I made this purchase and am writing this to warn anyone who has these on video to count minutes and compare and maybe to wait before you move to dvds. I've read that the Australian dvd editions are the most complete but compared to what I'm not sure; even so, it's something to look into. For those who don't have the series' at all it's really sad, scandalous actually, that we would be better off buying the very expensive oop video sets if we don't want to be cheated of a whole hour (it might be more if the comparison were made with the original UK videos for I don't know how many minutes they boasted) than to buy these condensed dvd versions from Playback. It should go without saying my one-star rating is for the subject dvd editions, not the miniseries' themselves, both of which I would rate all the stars in existence.
Amazon.co.uk Review
Time travel in the movies is at an all time high in Bill & Ted's Excellent Adventure. Bill S Preston Esquire (Alex Winter) and Ted Theodore Logan (Keanu Reeves) are in danger of flunking History class. They're rescued by Rufus (George Carlin), a resident of San Dimas 700 years in the future--a future in which their band Wyld Stallyns has brought about world peace and the best water slides in the universe. Entrusted with a phone booth time machine, they pick up various historical personages to give a colourful stage show for their final exam. The hip 80s rock sensibility paved the way for many comedies that followed Wayne's World, with air guitar and phrases like "bogus" and "dude" entrenching themselves way beyond the film's cult following. The film spawned a number of spin-offs including a bodacious cartoon and comic book series.
On the DVD: a trailer and a gallery of 20 behind-the-scenes photos will disappoint fans, even though it's interesting to see director Stephen Herek at work before he moved onto more serious films such as Mr Holland's Opus. However, the film has never looked better than in this transfer, and the effects still look terrific (especially the channels of Time). A Dolby sound mix also does wonders for Beethoven's keyboard improvs. --Paul Tonks
Customer Reviews:
Great movie, very bad quality transfer.......2007-10-28
I love this film and thought I'd buy it to watch with my daughter, but this particular transfer is appalling. When it arrived, the cover and DVD label looked like somebody had done a dodgy download and printed them on a poor bubble jet. They're so blurred that honestly it looks like a kid has done it in their bedroom as a pirate copy to make a bit of cash. The film itself is so out of synch with the dialogue, I wish I'd just recorded it from the telly. I know it's cheap but this is appalling. I bought the sequel at the same time and - ironically - though the movie is not as good, the DVD transfer is much better and the sound is in synch. Even the packaging looks more professional. Please don't tell me this is all down to my TV or DVD player or amplifier because everything else plays with no problems. Very disappointed and will be sending this back to look for a better version.
Quick Reviews!.......2007-09-03
Another great, innocent eighties teen movie about rock, hope, the future, the past, the present, babes etc. It may seem to send out the message that rock fans are dumb, these two are, but it is a comedy and wouldn't work if they weren't. The film is simply about friendship and trying to do something worthwhile in your life, that even a high school nobody can make a difference. Hardly original ideas, but given a totally excellent twist for the genre.
Bill and Ted are two typical high school losers from San Dimas. They love their rock music, dream of being in a band and meeting some radical babes. Reality states otherwise- that exams are approaching and if they fail, it's off to military school. As they believe that Joan of Arc was Noah's wife, their prospects of passing their history final are not good. One night, hanging around the Circle K, they meet themselves-from the future, and a guy named Rufus. He tells them they must pass their exam or there will be grave consequences for the world. They must travel back in time to find historical figures to bring back for their exam, travelling in a phone booth of course. On the way they fall in love, meet many people and get into a few scrapes. Soon though, their historical figures run riot in a local mall and get arrested. Time is running out- but they have a time machine...
A silly idea, but very cleverly executed, and the result is much smarter than you might expect. Keanu and Alex are both excellent in their roles, and the rest of the cast are all very good. Special mention to Terry Camilleri who is very funny as Napolean. He gets some of the best lines-'Le Glace?' and 'Idiot!' amongst others. There are many one-liners, the film creating an inane language of its own which is both repeatable and harmless. The plot does fly all over the place, but it remains easy, and deals with the concept of time-travel much like Back to the Future did. There are many references which rock fans will get, modern audiences may not understand half the film now and will no doubt see it as extremely cheesy. The dialogue and fashion may have dated hideously, but so will all today's teen shows and movies. This however retains charm over the years, and is still cool. There are many interesting ideas here, some very funny moments, and is more original than many would admit. Good solid entertainment, executed with a unique style. Not many extras on the DVD though.
Party On Dudes.......2007-04-05
I remember when I first saw this film many years ago, when I was little. I loved the film back then and I love the film now. This film stars Matrix star Keanu Reeves, along side Alex Winter. This film has good humour and a good storyline.
Bill S Preston Esquire (Alex Winter) and Ted Theodore Logan (Keanu Reeves) are high school teenagers, who are rather stupid, and don't have much common sense. The two have formed a band (which consists of just the two of them) called Wyld Stalyns, and so far, they're rather terrible. They can't play and they really do need to learn how to. In the meantime, they're failing history. They know bugger all. Ted has no idea who Joan of Arc is; he guesses Noah's wife, and Bill describes Nepolean Bonaparte as a "short dead dude". In fact as far as they're concerened, the only thing they have learned is that Cesar was a salad dressing dude.
Everyone in their year has to do a history report the following afternoon. Unless they get an A+, they'll fail history, and they've got a 1 in a million chance of learning everything they need in one night and passing history. Worse of all (to them) if they fail, Ted's father Captain Logan, who's the police chief of their home town San Dimas has decided that if Ted fails history he'll have him sent to a military school in Alaska. In fact he has already signed Ted up.
Lucky for them help is on the way; 700 years into the future, in the year 2688 a man named Rufus (George Carlin) is sent back in time to 1988 with a phone booth time machine to help Bill and Ted pass history. He lends them the time machine to ensure they pass. They also have to do this by the following afternoon; for some reason no matter where or WHEN they are, the clock in San Dimas is always running. So they embark on their most excellent adventure, where they collect historical figures throughout different time periods.
They gather the following historical people; Napolean, Billy the Kid, an ancient Greek philosopher called Socrates, Sigmund Freud, Genghish Kahn, Joan of Arc, Beethoven and Abraham Lincoln. This is an excellent film that is not to be missed, especially if you love to watch time travel and comedy films. There are funny moments throughout the film. Napolean is hillarious, such as during the bowling scene and the Waterloo scene, when he cuts lines and moves kids out of the way so he can have a turn on the water slides. Then there's that scene when they're in medieval England and attempting to free the princesses. They run into the king of England, who has his men behind him and Bill says. "How's it goin' royal ugly dudes?". Then he addressed himself as the Earl of Preston and Ted introduces himself as the Duke of Ted.
The funniest scene in my opinion is when the historical people are at the shopping mall and getting into mayhem. This is one of the best films ever made and it's very enjoyable to watch and very entertaining. Get this film now.
Like meeting an old friend.......2007-03-19
Well I watched this film as an adult recently and enjoyed it just as much as I did when I was 11. I remember everyone at school suddenly using the terms, "Bogus" "Dude" and "excellent" and I had to laugh..... what a bunch of sheep we were :)
A most triumphant movie dudes!!.......2005-11-20
I can sum this movie up in one word. Dude. Now not just dude more like, duuuude!
This is one excellent movie charting the most excellent adventures of Bill and Ted as the travel through time gathering the most bodacious dudes from throughout history such as Abraham Lincoln, Socrates ( so-crates, according to ted).
If you liked Wayne's world or other movies in this most triumphant genre it is your duty as an excellent person to buy this movie!

Over rated and disapointing.......2008-02-07
The writing is shocking, very poor and self-gratifying. It has pretentions of high-brow art but falls at the first fence. It is more like a drawn out mid 90's tv series but for the gay narrative. Could be described as a film version of a pale shadow of Queer as Folk. The relationships of the characters although offering promise are not probed adequately and consequently you never really feel any warmth to any to the characters. The directing is corntrived and pace of the characters, their thoughts and the narration is painfully slow and out of step with reality. The protagonist infuriatingly plods around the film, occasionally rattles off quotes of text but his apartment offers nothing to suggest his education.
Innovactive interplay involving interesting individuals..........2007-10-21
Delightful and interesting interplay involving three main gay roommates and their terribly soap opera lives.... X - the hooker with a morale compass, Andrew - the beefcake, only now coming to grips with being gay and Joey - young, naive and not innocent in the slightest!
It starts with an odd premise of X trying to figure out how to proceed with the next phase in his life, and being able to share his life with another - but he wants to enter this phase on his own terms, and wants everything to go on his terms. The focus of his attentions are on one of his roommates, Andrew, who is trying to come to gay persona and loosing himself, albeit trying to hold out for X!!! The interplay is effortless, as the acotrs, though not seasoned, more through the wonderful tapestry with great ease.
Not to be outdone is charming Joey - with his speech impediment (see the movie or at least the trailer... it is amusing inside joke)!
Defo worth repeated viewings!!!
Great Xmas suffer!!!
Sexy, funny and delicious.......2007-10-06
Fun film about a male prostitute who learns the valuable lesson about real affection from one of his elderly clients - but not necessarily for the client. A whole bundle of fun to watch with witty and dialogues and voice over and some good performances all round.
Derek Magyar plays the hustler who doesn't believe in love, and isn't interested in sex unless he's being paid for it. He goes by the name of X which signifies his emotional distance to love. X shares his home with two roommates -- Andrew (Darryl Stephens whome he secretely loves and Joey (Jonathon Trent) the teenager who lusts after X. Enter Gregory (Patrick Bauchau) who hires X for companionship only, holding of sex until X is really attracted to him...
Good entertainment; and did the boy get his man? You'll have to watch and see.
Intelligent gay movie.......2007-09-25
Boy Culture actually shys away from gay stereotypes and gives us a thoughtful and compelling drama full of interesting characters, sharp humour and a reliable narrative - a real achievement in gay cinema!
Interesting and Watchable. .......2007-09-04
Boy Culture is actually smart and somewhat entertaining movie. It's a low budget movie; I personally think with the right funds and some more script tweaking it could have been better, but I don't think we ask that from gay-themed movies. Not if 'Another Gay Movie' is anything to go by.
The movie is centered around X who documenting his life. It's really an interesting concept, and for once a movie from TLA actually uses some originality. He's a highly paid male escort, who only caters to the need of a certain list of clients. Funny thing is X didn't mean to go and fall for his roommate.
It's all very non interesting when written down, but the acting wasn't horrendous and have to admit Derek Magyar did a good job. His acting with the some okay writing might have saved this film, for being another 'do not watch' gay-themed movie.
The movie is based on the book written by Matthew Rettenmund.

Excellent set.......2007-10-31
These eight films are difficult if not impossible to get hold of on region 2 and hardly ever get shown on television. So this set which I bought from Amazon.com is well worth getting, and its quite a bargain, hence it gets 5 stars.
So far I have only seen three of the eight films. Although long ago I may well have watched them all.
Brides of Dracula is a minor classic starring Peter Cushing. Ok its missing Christopher Lee, but its directed by Terence Fisher who made all the best Hammer films.
Kiss of the Vampire has some classic moments although it is let down by a plot with some large holes in it and the absence of Christopher Lee is more important that in Brides of Dracula as they let Noel Willman try and impersonate him which doesn't work!
Paranoica is a clever psychological thriller in black and white with Oliver Reed which has some suspenseful moments and certainly merits a second viewing.
The set is on 2 double-sided discs (two films per side - four films per disc) and is nicely packaged.
Faulty Discs.......2007-10-31
This is indeed a fantastic collection of some of my favourite Hammer horror films. The prints that are used are of great quality plus the films have censored bits restored. Its only got one star from me because there is INHERENT FAULTS within these discs which make the films skip a second or freeze and stop the DVD player. I`m trying to contact Universal about this problem but from what I`ve read on Amazon US site about the same box set it looks like its not just me whose having a problem with this fault. Because these discs are dual sided that might be the problem thats causing the fault somehow. If the worse comes to the worse I can only hope that Universal release the same films, same prints, on their own. Big shame....
"Nightmare" and "Paranoiac" At Last!!.......2007-07-22
This little set is worth it alone for the above chillers, which have superb production values.
The BFI in London has the only 35mm print in the country of 'Nightmare' and a splendid film too, crisply shot in Black + White, superbly photographed as is 'Paranoiac' from the Francis/Sangster team. The others are entertaining too and seldom seen on Television, definitely worth adding to your collection!
some forgotten gems........2006-08-10
this is a collection of rather obscure hammer films that include both horror and thrillers.
best films here in my opinion, are "brides of dracula," "night creatures" and "curse of the werewolf."
the latter has been fully restored after spending years being broadcast minus about 5 minutes or more. now running at approximately 92 minutes, the film makes more sense.
the one and only peter cushing leads the way in three films including one of his most famous characters, baron frankenstein.
"kiss of the vampire" is one of the stronger entries in this collection. the weakest is "phantom of the opera."
Amazing collection of good old Hammerfilms.......2006-01-09
The little Hammer studio very often had to look for partners overseas to produce their amazing pictures. While other big Film studios like Warner and MGM released “their” Hammer films some time ago on DVD it seems that these eight (European!) movies rested for ages in the vaults of the Universal studios in LA. It was impossible to get them here in Austria for a very long time. So although I have to have a multi region DVD player and a NTSC compatible TV and despite the quite high costs for transport and customs duty I am very glad that this collection finally came out because this here is great stuff from the house of Hammer!
There are two double-sided DVDs with these movies;
The Brides of Dracula starring Peter Cushing
The Curse of the Werewolf starring Oliver Reed
Phantom of the Opera starring Herbert Lom
Paranoiac starring Oliver Reed
The Kiss of the Vampire starring Clifford Evans
Nightmare starring Jennie Linden
Night creatures starring Peter Cushing
The evil of Frankenstein starring (of course) Peter Cushing
No extras like trailers or audio commentary (which is a bit of a shame)
Only “Phantom of the Opera” was kind of a disappointment for me. Herbert Lom is a great and powerful actor and Terence Fisher was one of Hammers best directors but for me this film still is a boring and unconvincing version of the story by Gaston Leroux.
All the other movies are very good and highly enjoyable especially the three with the great Peter Cushing (who is absolutely adorable in “Night creatures”) and of course the films with the young Oliver Reed. “The Curse of the Werewolf” alone is reason enough to buy this DVDs.
Every fan of Hammer, Peter Cushing and good old Gothic Horror should buy this collection. It is really great entertainment!
Just buy it and see for yourself!
