5 out of 5 stars A wonderful story.......2006-12-25

If you are into general life stories/dramas, i highly reccomend you see this!
About a young child that begins schooling with other children. Her teacher becomes worried of taking the child into her class when she finds out that she (caitlin) is a violet/untamed young girl that has grown up in violency with her parents.
But in the end her teacher does everything she can to tame caitlin.
A brilliant movie!

5 out of 5 stars 'A Must-See Film'.......2006-07-20

Having watched the film on Satellite TV, I was so touched by this movie - I almost cried!
Caitlin, a disturbed child is destined for a mental institution, until she is put in a Special Needs Class.
Her teacher manages to reach inside this child's mind and heart, to discover a genius with an unusually high I.Q. Caitlin soon opens up to the trust and love of her teacher, bringing out the best in her. By the end of term, she has moved on enough to go into a normal class. The bond between Caitlin and teacher was so strong, it will have you reaching for some tissues.

With different characters and names to the book on which it was based on, I recommend seeing the film first, before reading the book! Enjoy!

2 out of 5 stars Why are the books always better?.......2006-02-21

I could not wait to see this film after reading the book, but its true what they say the film never matches the quality of the book.
If i was Torey Hayden I would have been bitterley dissapointed with this dramatisation.
Misses masses of information and does not really touch on the child at all, it has all the gripping parts the abuse etc but it never really catches the magic of Torey's and Sheilas relationship.
If you are thinking of buying it don't waste your money.

Subject: Your Amazon.co.uk Inquiry From: info@amazon.co.uk Subject: Your Amazon.co.uk Inquiry From: info@amazon.co.uk This movie is sharply divergent from the book on which it was based. (The title of the book will not be included here to protect all innocent or in any way connect it to this trite fare). Artistic license was allowed to run amok, literally weakening the filmed version of the true account. Poor acting and a trite script didn't help its cause either.

Short version - Caitlin Eldridge was remanded to a hospital after injuring another child. During the interim, she was placed in a special needs class where her IQ of 168 was "discovered." Setbacks involved sexual molestation. The teacher character, "Maggie BarnYard" was obsessed with getting her class included in auditorium activities. The worst part of this movie was when Maggie cuts Caitlin off at a critical point in the child's disclosure of sexual abuse to hustle her off to that darn auditorium. Meanwhile, John Getz is the injured boyfriend, crying in his beer about being given the back burner treatment by Maggie. His whines become tiresome, like this movie.

Maggie bears no resemblance whatsoever to her real life counterpart. She is considerably older than her live counterpart was when the events the film is based on occurred; Maggie's methods, responses and teaching style are an about-face from those of her real counterpart. That in turn weakened an already poor film and i dont like Cathy Lee Crosby's portrayal of Maggie.

Maudlin ending with the "Teacher Maggie" character saying how only she could be that bridge for Caitlin. Good grief! [24~

1 out of 5 stars Poor Portrayal.......2005-08-20

This is a simply dreadful film that has absolutely nothing to do with the book. It is just a fictitious farce that undermines the importance of the book.

Don't waste your time on this one.
