5 out of 5 stars BATMAN GOTHAM KNIGHTS!.......2006-08-06

I love every episode on these 4 discs especially Joker's Millions because it is well written and funny also Joker is my all time favourite villain if you are a Batman fan or just like great cartoons then get this.

3 out of 5 stars Batman: The Animated Series, Vol. 4.......2006-04-05

These new Batman episodes take place a few years after Batman: The Animated Series. A new Robin, Batgirl is now part of the group and the old Robin is now Nightwing.

These new episodes are different and not the same, due to the fact it was made along side Superman. There are some good episodes like Old Wounds and Legends of the Dark Knight.

The Special Features are not good, just a commentary on a few episodes.

5 out of 5 stars The end of a great series!.......2005-06-28

Sadly this is the last run through of Batman: The Animated Series which is a disappointment because I've really enjoyed watching the show ever since I was little! The boxset starts off with the first twenty episodes from the original series before it swapped over and became The Adventures of Batman & Robin for the last ten episodes.

Once again we have a superb cast providing their voices and giving the characters some cool personality and backbone such as Kevin Conroy who as always plays Batman with his gravelly voice and dry wit, Loren Lester as Robin the sidewick, Efrem Zimbalist Jr as Alfred, Batman's sardonic butler, Mark Hamill as the Joker, a deranged madman, etc.

The newest volume in the collection hails the arrival of Batgirl in a 2-part story "Shadow of the Bat" where Two Face gets Commissioner Gordon arrested by starting rumours about Gordon accepting bribes from Rupert Thorne, so Batman & Robin investigate, but when Batman goes undercover to find out the truth he gets captured by Two Face and his thugs.

Well that's all you're getting for now, hope you enjoy the last boxset of this fantastic show!

5 out of 5 stars The Best Gets Even Better.......2008-02-28

A must have not only for Batman fans but lovers of high quality entertainment everywhere!

5 out of 5 stars The second instalment of the acclaimed series!.......2005-06-07

Batman the Animated Series returns with a second helping of 28 episodes from the show, with more villains and appearances from Robin, Batman's sidekick in different episodes. In this boxset we get a closer look at Batman's past in episodes like Night of the Ninja where he was in Japan studying martial arts with his teacher Yoru Sensei, his adversary Kyodai Ken who hated Bruce Wayne because he got kicked out of the school for breaking into the dojo, and after all these years returns for a showdown against Bruce Wayne for revenge.

But he comes back for a second time in Day of the Samurai to kidnap Yoru Sensei's best student as a challenge for Batman to battle him one last time. The newest villain is the Riddler(Edward Nygma)who gets sacked from his job at a software company who immediately starts terrorising his old boss which means Batman & Robin come to the rescue, they then have to enter Nygma's own maze and save his boss from death, Nygma returns once more and begins causing havoc for banks and the stock exchange.

Whilst all this is going on a box arrives at Police Headquarters, Batman & Robin manage to crack the puzzle and discover a huge computer mainframe within, Robin hacks into the program to check it over but gets careless when Commissioner Gordon puts on one of the virtual reality helmets and gets trapped in the system leaving Batman to enter the program and save him!

The extras is fantastic, there's an interview with a few members of the cast including Kevin Conroy (Batman), Mark Hamill (The Joker), Adrienne Barbeau (Catwoman) & Efrem Zimbalist Jr (Alfred), as well as various writers and the team behind the show. I cannot praise this show enough for giving me hours of enjoyment watching Batman battle on foe after another throughout, I can't wait to buy Volume 3 when I get the chance, go on buy it, it's the best thing you'll ever do!

5 out of 5 stars The Legacy of The Dark Knight (Dublin, Ireland).......2006-08-28

The nineties animated show - modern classics and will never be bettered - FACT! No one, not even Chris Bale, has gotten Bruce Wayne/Batman down to a tee like Kevin Conroy. From Batman Beyond to Justice League Unlimited, Conroy has cemented himself as the only one to provide the voice for the Caped Crusader. The new show, The Batman, fails due to the lack of Conroy.

The almighty Paul Dini and Bruce W. Timm are responsible for these four slices of modern myth. Dini is a legend in the comics community (check out "Peace On Earth" with Alex Ross) and Timm is near mythic. They, along with the likes of Boyd Kirkland and Shirley Walker, showed that ""kid's cartoons"" could be highly intelligent and enthrall teenagers and adults alike. I remember as a young kid how I looked forward sooo much to every new episode way back in the early nineties. Now it's great to be re-living those fond memories on a 42" widescreen with Dolby Digital - the only way to view these episodes.

The voice talents involved are, well, extraordinary. Mark Hamill's Joker is the best ever, the most humorous, the most terrifying, the most menacing and the most delicious villain EVER!! Here he is The Dark Knight's greatest adversary and every Joker episode is masterful. From "Christmas with The Joker," an episode that has the legendary "Batman smells, Robin laid an egg etc etc" which is now ingrained upon the modern concious, which is hugely enjoyable and a great one for a snow-white Christmas! Others, "Be a Clown," "The Joker's Favour," "The Laughing Fish" & "Joker's Wild" are hilarious and no matter how many times they're viewed you see something new. Everytime you see The Joker he has some ready pun or quip. One of the alltime great moments is when he and Bruce Wayne sit at a Blackjack table in the casino made in honor of The Joker in "Joker's Wild" - I won't spoil it, it's great.

The Rogues Gallery expands as the seasons progress, featuring the likes of Poison Ivy, Man-Bat, Killer Croc, Two Face, Scarecrow, The Penguin, The Mad Hatter, The Clock King, Clayface, Catwoman, Rupert Thorne, The Riddler and more. The voices employed are exemplory. The episodes are full of dry wit, enigmatic characters, riddles, puzzles, mysteries, adventure, action, suspense, horror and more!

Another stunning thing is how rewatchable they are. There really isn't a duff one. Y'know the way, even in the best TV shows, mid-season you've got a few poor episodes (like in Star Trek or Smallville) where the best writers are on a break or there isn't money available - but not here. The first three seasons are ful of mini-masterpieces.

Sadly, the animation-style of the first three seasons (gothic 1930's noir) is replaced by poorer Japanese-influenced animation. Not Pokemon-like, but of a lower standard. Whilst the voice cast largely remains, there are big changes. Dick Grayson as Robin grows up and becomes Nightwing. Batgirl becomes a regular and Tim Drake becomes a very "street" Robin. There are some very good episodes but they aren't up to scratch compared with the first three seasons. Here in Ireland at least, the series was dubbed "Batman: Gotham Knights" I suppose reflecting the fact that it is no longer a one-man show (Robin was only a regular in the third season, despite being in the second one a lot - season three was actually called "The Adventures of Batman and Robin" here in Ireland and the U.K.) and to make it stand seperate to the first three seasons. It's still definitely worth a look and you'll get great enjoyment out of it.

Now, a special note on my favourite episode - "An Appointment in Crime Alley" in the first boxset, disc 4. It's an exceptional story by comic-god Gerry Conway (now doing Law and Order: Criminal Intent) - just watch it: the voice cast, the music, the drama - this is for Batman: Animated what "City on The Edge of Forever" was to the original classic Star Trek show. Just watch it.

All in all, these are a must for diehard Bat-fans and casual watchers. You'll love every minute. Great for watching with kids and oldies (!) alike.

Also check out Superman: The Animated Series, Batman: Mask of The Phantasm and Batman: Subzero.

5 out of 5 stars STUNNING!.......2006-02-13

When I purchased this 4-disc dvd, I had no idea it was going to be like this!. It blew me away. From On Leather Wings to Dreams In Darkness.
This volume had everything. A dark deep voice by Kevin Conroy for Batman, a pyschotic nutter's voice for the Joker. Brilliant stories by Alan Burnett (Two Part I & II) and Paul Dini's Mr. Freeze episode : Heart Of Ice.
The special features are excellent. Disc 1 - The Pilot Promo hosted by Bruce Timm. A brilliant promo reel. Couple of thugs on a rooftop. Batman shows up. Dark & mysterious and wipes them out.
Disc 2 - A retrospective Batman The Legacy Continues Documentary. This is marvelous. It tells everything you need to know about Batman. Talking about Dark Deco, voices, music, animation technique, rogue's gallery. It has everything.
Disc 3 - A tour of the batcave. Not as good as I first thought. Click on Batman, Batvehicles, Bat Gadgets & Alfred. What you get is music & shots from random episodes.
Disc 4 - Trailers. Justice League/SuperFriends/Batman Mystery Of tHe Batwoman.
Overall a good release, okay there are some stinkers, but overall this is one of the best box sets i've ever got.
This is Batman. Batman the animated series is Batman.
Look out for the Volume2/3 & 4 release which completes the series.

5 out of 5 stars I adore the artwork and animation!.......2005-06-25

I always like Batman ever since it was on TV back in the early 90s and has been shown on Sky One a lot back in 2004 which was good but the episodes weren't always repeated that often which was a shame, but cae la vie!

I already own all three volumes of Batman: The Animated Series Region 1 boxsets and I agree with another viewer who commented on the shoddy way the United Kingdom release DVDs with three to four episodes a piece, at least with these you get hours of entertainment, every episode from the show and good clear surround sound to accompany the series!

Remember this, get these boxsets whilst you can for all those who like Batman and own a Multi-region DVD player, because if not you're missing out on a classic cartoon!

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant series with the UK being ripped off again!.......2005-06-23

This was one of the best animated series of the 90's together with Gargoyles and Spiderman.

At the moment the UK is getting the episodes released in small volumes, no doubt larger volumes such as this with appear in R2 eventually but who wants to wait a year before they can get them when multiregion players are so cheap?

Take my advice and buy this and the other 2 volumes rather than the sorry R2 offerings, you won't regret it!

Oh and by the way this volume does have the Cat and The Claw episodes, the previous reviewer must not have read the episode list properly!

5 out of 5 stars the batman.......2004-12-01

This is a awsome dvd which shows some of the best work from the batman animated seires. Ive so far watched this about 10 times and i havent got bored of it yet. The only dissapionting thing about it though is that it hasnt got the Cat and the claw the very first of the animated seires, aww well you cant have every thing.
